  1. You can't remove the overspill as it's a solvent that melts (welds) plastic together. The joint you can probably loosen by adding more solvent and wiggling the part gently and hopefully it comes away.
  2. Shows how much you shorten it compared to normal Hornby under frame
  3. You can easily cut out the doors and set them flush on the Hornby/Airfix model but on the inside you will probably require some plasticard as the joint is wafer thin. The Hornby old style Collett 7ft bogies are offset from centre so you can use them without to much fuss
  4. Cutting up a Hornby auto coach isn't as daunting as it first seems. I marked out where all the cuts were needed. Then using a sliding fence on a bandsaw using a fine toothed blade I sliced all the individual pieces. As it is effectively a smooth sided body, a bit of filler in the joints and a careful rubdown with some 400 grit sandpaper should give you a decent surface.
  5. Ten minutes with a Hammer and I could turn them into model "landfill" <ahem>
  6. Bluddy 'ell. You can take a boy away from Hornby Railroad coaches but... Two restaurants down to make an H38. Waiting on flushglazing and got to put handles on but quite pleased
  7. Composite decking is bl**dy heavy and I personally wouldn't use it. It can deform and warp like solid lumber. Use a decent 9mm (3/8") plywood and brace it on a 2"×1"frame (minimum) every 300mm (12"). Even then you may find it warps but it will be over a long length rather than a spot.
  8. Found 'em. I still haven't finished it. Bought an etched chassis but it's hidden away somewhere <sigh>
  9. I did this with one of my metros. I think the 1854 back bunker is slightly wider and I had to shorten it. I have a pic somewhere, I’ll post it if I find it.
  10. Behind the rear steps on the loco.
  11. Hi Mr Corbs. I haven't finished them. I got distracted <oh, squirrel> and they lurk in a box, somewhere, with a million other part started "projects". I am ashamed.....
  12. Any chance you could repost those scans please? I'm just starting cleaning up these etches but got no instructions.
  13. Could anyone advise me if K38’s would have been painted all over brown with the shirt button livery. If they did, does anyone have any pics please?
  14. I am on the scrounge for the BSL drawing/instruction sheet for 1938 E160 sunshine composite coach please.
  15. I hope any of you Gents can help. I have the aforementioned kit of Railcar No.18 which is not hard to fathom how it goes together and I've soldered it up. My query is how the chassis is supposed to fit under the body casting? I have a new Hornby version of the chassis and there is no way in hell it will ever go in without massive surgery, which to be honest scratchbuilding a new one would probably be easier. If anyone has an instruction sheet from the kit which might explain if the Lima chassis had to be modiefied I would really appreciate it. Thanx.
  16. Well, I swore to myself I was never gonna do another cut n' shut Railroad Collett. But..... I found two untouched H33 Restaurant cars and that set me thinking.... H42 Kitchen Car ?
  17. This was where I was heading but no recessed doors is whats throwing me.
  18. No plans in the box other than the generic construction ones. Which is a pain!
  19. Hi everybody Peeps. Could any of the more learned here please identify these Westdale suburban B kit diagrams please? I'm stumped as they are bow ended 60 footers.
  20. I have all the other vehicles in the rake from Phoenix so I kinda hoped to keep all the same supplier to satisfy my OCD.
