  1. By the time you've prepped a coach there's virtually nothing left. The body still needs sanding thinner by about 1mm. Also the window appatures need opening out top and bottom. They take a lot of work!
  2. The "long" Clerestory coaches haven't changed dimensions since they were released, just the tampo printing. The donor coaches take a fair bit of sanding to get the width down to accept the brass overlays.
  3. I'm currently building some BSL/Phoenix GWR stamped aluminum coaches with the standard cast white metal ends supplied. The coaches weren't supplied with corridor connectors but most of the ends have the start of them moulded on. Having offered up some Comet coaches castings the outline is completely different. Can anyone point me in the direction of some that are closer to the BSL profile or is it a case of carving off the old mouldings and replacing totally? Hopefully I dont have to go that way as I have about 20 coaches to do. Eek!
  4. I picked up one of these kits for £15 on Ebay last summer. As others have said the Bachmann City has relegated these sort of kits to curio's. Having said that ,Pm me please as I would be interested in buying it from you.
  5. Hasn't the business been sold? I'm sure I read it had recently.
  6. The chances of getting a 47xx Stateside in one piece is negligible. Packaging is junk. I've had two here in Canada that arrived in more pieces than the average kit! For that reason alone the 61xx is a safer bet. ( my model of that loco arrived perfect!)
  7. Im not sure who manufactured the kit, possibly Roxey?
  8. I'm building a straight frame Hornby Saint with an ancient Crownline conversion kit. I'm also bodging a Saint using the remnants of the kit with a Grange boiler and Airfix Castle frames.
  9. Some of the projects. Slower than glaciers at the moment. Got bouts of vertigo and can't see straight.....
  10. Not guilty your Honour (yet). Possibly Kandu_au ? I think he asked about it on one of the Facebook Western groups though.
  11. Still got the cab shelf with the lining pulled out of whack.
  12. I think I'd be inclined to glue the internals With a subfloor assembly (compartments/seats etc) to the chassis to get the rigidity required if you're going to keep the aluminium frame rails. Body should be plenty strong enough by keeping them. Just a thought...
  13. Them be Westdale. The ends are stamped aluminium with no detail. Bit of a to glue as there isn't a lot of 'meat' to play with. I toyed with using cast whitemetal ends but yet to find anything that matches the roof profile.
  14. I'm currently bodging a couple of them (hopefully) to reasonable success. I picked up a Crownline conversion kit last year with almost enough parts to make a straight frame and curved frame version. Turns out the kit wasn't "complete" so had to raid spare parts bin and scratch build. First the straight frame is on the awful Hornby offering. The curved frame after reading some info here, (thanx peeps) Is a Grange boiler with Castle frames. Lots of fun!
  15. Watching with interest as I've several Hammond etches to build.
  16. It’s a dog eat cat world out there ! Bearing in mind some people pay 3x more for things that are still available new from the manufacturer it’s “no holds barred”
  17. Very little of what I have shipped/imported is ever hit with customs charges. When the GSP was first introduced I bought a CD on eBay whose value was less than the import duty threshold. The cheeky blighters tried to charge me all "applicable taxes" (there shouldn't have been any!) So I called them and got given a load of bovine excrement, so I cancelled the purchase and never buy anything from anyone who uses GSP. Amazon now try the same trick by charging "possible" import fees at time of purchase. Stopped me using them on regular basis too.
  18. It's more profiteering from eBay (like they need the money)! Pre charging for POSSIBLE import duties is plain thievery !
  19. Looking closely at Hattons pic, it seems the shelf is still there, 12 spoke bogie wheels and the vertical moulded cab handrails. Same half ar$ed shoite, different day, it would appear
