  1. You’d see a lot more of it at the moment; Lake Mead is at its lowest ever level.
  2. That’s Liskeard, where you change for Looe, not Looe itself.
  3. And I’ll bet that the split headcode class 37 would have been a cop for most of the spotters at Reading when it passed through a few minutes after that picture was taken.
  4. No need to apologise when you’re posting stuff like that!!
  5. Mea culpa. On reflection, some of my comments may have been more robust than necessary. It was not my intention to offend. Point taken.
  6. Perhaps @montyburns56 has run out of pictures to lift from Flickr and dump on here so now we getting some repeats….
  7. Every day’s a school day. I expect most people (like me) would have skimmed past that picture thinking it was nothing more than a bog standard 4 car 3rd rail Southern Region EMU.
  8. Similarly David, in C15418 the leading locomotive isn’t 86812, it’s 86412 “Elizabeth Garrett Anderson” (which later became 86612). I don’t think there were ever any locomotives numbered in the 868** range.
  9. What an evocative image! I wonder if the driver was being interviewed or perhaps the cassette recorder would be used to tape the sound of the Deltic. And nice to see comedian Harry Hill (when he still had hair) on the right, binoculars round his neck, tabs and matches in his pocket. Any ideas what that is sticking out of the permed gentleman’s back pocket?
  10. That’s all we have time for on Shipwatch this week. Tune in again next week at the same time for all the latest ship movement news.
  11. Yes, taken from just along the same platform as this one: https://www.flickr.com/photos/ap86316/25870434038/in/photolist-Fq5JJb-2jxXfe3-25fhvmY-2feqo1J-rkrnb2-A1QQj7-e2er4A-ByKfgH-ZMiugd-AML3yY-FXrysM-fH6qS7-anNcQm-2gKpoYy-fGJdSh-fHfZ2X-fFY6QZ-S2ZYgq-2jvfBV9-EhCCcw-26gCCzQ-ZtSAuu-256owTs-2ffY2dm-2iys783-DRD81L-MP3Le2-j9GxkN-fFdAC3-2fkDxbV-Nop82a-2hcRAt9-Kj7Jec-2afjDBT-2gLWapg-2gMyRBe-2gLW8Dh-26dasuj-2gNtJ2n-28TDCpq-2gLWXaA-7XScEu-LQxUeA-28p3qRG-2gLWVVB-LQpUUE-Mp2sN6-Mp372z-Kj7Kdg-Db55vU/lightbox/ I’ve posted the link rather than the image so as not to contaminate the thread with non-class 50 images
  12. ETA August/September according to the Bachmann website
  13. Your “invisible writing” made me smile, Mick
  14. I think that’s rather unfair. Rails of Sheffield is a large operation whose business is making money by selling models. Revolution Trains is two blokes doing it in their spare time. Isn’t it to be expected that the former will be able to despatch a large number of packages quicker than the latter?
  15. Based on careful scrutiny of previous announcements, here are my predictions for the next announcement: 1. Some moaning about the choice of models that have been announced 2. Some moaning about the prices 3. Some moaning about how long it will take for the models to arrive 4. Some moaning about what the prices are likely to be when the model arrives 5. Some moaning about the adjectives used to describe the new models 6. Some moaning about the choice of numbers for locomotive X, coach Y and wagon Z. 7. Some moaning that there is STILL nothing for people modelling the Rutland and Back of Beyond Railway between 1910 and 1911. 8. Possibly a transition-era “very-underwhelmed” and a large logo “nothing for me this time” as well. Let’s see how accurate these predictions will be…
  16. Your layout must be MASSIVE if you can fit that many locos on it.
  17. Personally, I would give it a few weeks given that the first orders were only sent out on Wednesday. I know that patience is not really in vogue anymore but I think we know enough about Revolution Trains to have complete confidence in their way of doing things. I’m sure they have enough to do right now without having to respond to “when will my order be sent out?” type questions.
  18. And the one on the left (59103) hadn’t even been ordered by then.
  19. I’m no expert on Dutch trains and I don’t make that many journeys through The Netherlands but I can’t say I’ve ever seen these units coupled to anything else. I was quite surprised when I first noticed the wheel arrangement and I don’t know why they thought it necessary. Other NS double-deck EMUs have more conventional wheel arrangements.
  20. Maybe it’s time to start a new thread called “I thought this picture showed something very unusual, but as a result of subsequent posts by more knowledgeable people, it turns out that it was actually very common”. Or something like that.
  21. A few months ago I linked a picture from Flickr of this unusual gold-painted Euro-Shed that I’d seen that morning and posted it on the “Prototype for Everything” thread. Today, it happened to be parked across the street from the shop I had to go to, so I thought I’d take a picture myself. It’s parked in the sidings at Osnabrück Hafen (Germany).
  22. I didn’t know there was a tunnel at Shap There are a few on the S&C though….
  23. I was quite pleased (I think) to receive this birthday card from my cousin
