  1. Thanks for the info Phil. I am going to pretend that difference is not there. I will look into it once the model arrives however to see what covers it has.

  3. I have used powders to date. I am pretty pleased with the results, but I find them a bit limiting as to how faded I can go and the results I can get. I will give your method a go. The Western looks spot on.

  7. I have just purchased a Heljan class 25 25 252. 25 190 seemed to follow me about in the early 1980s. So I have a soft spot for that one. Now I am not a rivet counter... Can I rename 252 to 190. Did they externally look the same? Or is there a sharp intake of breath, you can't do that, there were all these minor detail differences. Thanks Steve

  9. I have learnt much from other members on here. Many peoples layouts have provided inspiration for me. I think for some members the site is more than a modeling site but with the friendships on here abit of a lifeline especially if housebound and so on.
  10. Yes I also saw that pic he posted, I have saved it as it is great weathering reference May someone tell me what the white squares were for, that sometimes appeared next to the data panel. As shown on this picture.
  11. I can confirm there is no cure! Here is another picture of my batch of recently completed 21tonners in the grime of Boxchester yard. Just as we remember them :) I currently have five I have kit built or RTR stuff heavily modified....now looking for new victims to be hacked about.
  12. I am glad you like the pictures, I wish I had a few more. Looking at them I had forgotten how non overgrown and intact looking the old MPD and repair shed were back then. I just found your pictures of the wagon repair shed. Very nicely done. I would like to build a model of Faversham but I have no room for that. Also I see Mike Storey contributed to this thread, as he was involved in the area with BR. I was sad to see he passed away fairly recently. RIP. Cheers Steve
  13. Yes thats the route I took. I used to cycle along the coast to Whitstable then through the town. Along the road to Seasalter past the Sportsman. I used to see the 33 with the coal train sometimes at the bridge at Graveney and then finish at Faversham Station. I was about 13 14 at the time, I had an instamatic and took very few pictures. I only have four from those Faversham days. By 1982 I was doing London depots and stations and spent alot of time on Reading. I couldn't afford to go further. I had a green Traing 31 freight train set one Christmas and stuck the track on a board I was thankful for that but always hankered after a proper layout. My four pictures of Faversham. This is the 73 that used to do the shunt move in the morning. My most precious picture as it shows that red brake dust everything was coated in. An unidentified 73 on an up working from Dover I was bored at the end of the platform and the signalman saw me and invited me up to the Box and I set the points for the 47. Which was 47233 CF. Here is it passing the Box. It was really good of him to ask me into the box as it gave a young lad a good memory. I think he was a bit of enthusiast, as I remember him talking about 55007 visit on the man of Kent rail tour. I think he perhaps held the train so I could get a picture.
  14. I use to cycle to Faversham from Herne Bay many days in the summers of 1979 and 1980. There was the 33 hauled coal train down the Ramsgate line, which sometimes I missed, then the 73 used to turn up and from memory used to shuffle the coach from the newspaper train about. And the highlight was the 47 on up freight from Dover late morning...and then it was just a sea of units. Occasionaly another 73 or 33 would surface on something. So not much going on but memories loaded with atmosphere for me. I didnt have much money and options were limited, I could sometimes stretch to an East Kent Rail rover. I am very pleased your Father saved those boards. I am not supprised your friend got bored :)
  15. Did try to heat up plastic wagon sides once to see if I could get a realistic effect. Failure on my part, it looked too crude on the OO wagon I tried. Perhaps I will experiment more. I saw someone had obtained that distorted bowed effect pretty well on plastic O gauge wagons at somepoint. Steve
  16. Thank you. I will bear that in mind I am going to get my coal dust weathering powder out next mainly for the inside. I have just given the inside a general bauxite rust going over for the time being. Thanks again.
  17. Looking at Paul Barttlets invaluable picture rescource they seem to have varied much like the wagons.
  18. Still more to do. How it looks so far. I am going to put it down for a while now. Coal dust and a half unloaded coal load next.
  19. Second stage weathering. I still need to weather coal dust inside and a touch outdide, as well as the coal load and so on. I will put it down for a while now. I can allready see a few bits that need improving.
  20. Erm....weirdly the kit came in grey, not sure why they didn't do it in Bauxite. Note ......it's FIRST stage weathering. Tip - you can use the grey effectively as an undercoat, if a wagon is heavily rusted, depending on what technique you are using.
  21. I like your destination boards. It looks like they are from Faversham. I have a soft spot for Faversham it's where I started spotting.
