  1. Agree all sorts of different shades have surfaced over the years. The only one that was so way off it had to be resprayed was the Dapol 73. I try to work in a dirty cream weathering powder to push the colour back to a more worn by the elements look.
  2. Sunday at Boxchester. All quiet. A couple of vans in the yard. An old pipe wagon being used as an internal user with junk in. A class 56 passes the the background light engine. A peak sits on the fuel point engine off. Awaiting it's first duty on Monday. I am going to get going again on my roundy roundy tomorrow. Static grass time. Cheers Steve
  3. Growing up on the southern that's how I remember things too. Hence my 33s and 73s are pretty clean And my 31s and 37s are horriblely filthy
  4. I think this post deserves more likes. My grandfather and others in my family served In the Royal Navy, before he died he gave me Lothar Buchheim's book of u boat photographs ....on which Das Boot was based upon. The base morality, as you so eloquently put it, can be eroded pretty quickly. I speak from personal experience. And understandably but woringly many people today can not conceive of how easily the mind can be brutalised. I agree Das Boot was a ground breaking film.
  5. Great layout. Yes a backscene makes all the difference. Cheers Steve
  6. Stick at it, it is all looking good Cheers Steve (My very caring wife helped me get through PTSD and modeling has been a great help too)
  7. Have you a project on the go at the moment Steve?
  8. Dave. I always enjoy your updates and pictures. These are really good. Best wishes for the new year Steve
  9. More of a leg man myself. The layout is looking really good by the way. Nice modelling enjoying seeing the progress.
  10. OK I am having real trouble up loading this. So for the time being here is the up to date list for unsighted locos. 11x47/0 6x47/3 41x47/4 7x47/7 Total 65 47003 47115 47149 47176 47183 47208 47263 47269 47271 47275 47282 47332 47336 47368 47373 47379 47380 47402 47403 47405 47407 47408 47409 47410 47411 47412 47413 47414 47416 47417 47419 47420 47422 47430 47437 47440 47460 47461 47468 47472 47486 47493 47494 47496 47498 47502 47504 47506 47516 47529 47541 47550 47576 47579 47601/901(visited as 47046 but it would be interesting to know if it visited in a later guise) 47604 47617 47633 47643 47701 47702 47706 47707 47708 47710 47711 Five locos are shown twice in the list above 47083/633 47149/576 47183/579 47269/643 47271/604
  11. Thanks. No problem. It doesn´t seem to have uploaded properly anyway. I will amend it now.
  12. Version 11 here, with 47046 recorded as having visited. I can no longer upload the document as as word document so it is in the form of a PDF. Also I have used red to note the locos not recorded as it makes things clearer. Class47s_SouthEasternDivision_v11.pdf These were the locos that were never sighted - so if you ever come across a bit of gen or a picture let me know. Thanks for all your input so far. 47003 47009 47083 47115 47149 47176 47183 47208 47263 47269 47271 47275 47282 47332 47336 47368 47373 47379 47380 47402 47403 47405 47407 47408 47409 47410 47411 47412 47413 47414 47416 47417 47419 47420 47422 47430 47437 47440 47460 47461 47468 47472 47486 47493 47494 47496 47498 47502 47504 47506 47516 47529 47541 47550 47576 47579 47601/901(visited as 47046 but it would be interesting to know if it visited in a later guise) 47604 47617 47633 47643 47701 47702 47706 47707 47708 47710 47711 Five locos are shown twice in the list above 47083/633 47149/576 47183/579 47269/643 47271/604
  13. That's looking good. And I agree the angle that shows the chimney brest is best
  14. A few hours more work today. Paint stage finished and the tunnel inners. Beginning to come together Next stage is weathering powder on the roads and ground cover. The bridge needs more weathering Then static grass. I will then have a basic landscape to run trains through. 40012 ran round today. Cheers Steve General views of progress so far.
  15. Thank you for the kind words Simon. I too have taken much inspiration from many of the pictures posted by others. They can get you inspired again when you lose your modelling impetus. My advice with weathering and ground cover. Is select a season and then stick with a limited pallet. I always like autumn as it is my favourite season and the colours are muted. I finished the layout to the best of my ability. But when covid kicked in I had, for the first time, the time to revisit the bits that were not bad...but I knew I could make a better job of it. So expect to do it in stages. The only thing I am not happy with is the track. When I started it years ago I didn't know anything about track, building track and off the shelf bullhead didn't exist. So the track looks pretty clumbsy to me. But it is what it is and apart from that I am very pleased with it. Let me know how you get on. Best wishes Steve
  16. Many more hours work and I have all the basics down. It is now ready for weathering powders, chalks and static grass. This is the stage I enjoy. Lots of fine tuning The only bit I have not given much thought to is the center section. At the moment it is just basic yard ground cover and a ridge to cover the button that holds up the backscene. Might be after some ideas later. So after the next stage I should have a basic landscape with which to run trains through. Cheers Steve
  17. Interesting, informative posts like this is why I enjoy RMweb so much. Cheers Steve (Incidentally I was born in Lee in 1966 and my parents remember the Hither Green crash vividly)
  18. Bad nights sleep. So greeny paint on the hills and some grey slapped on the roads, to see where I am with it and put it away. The shape of the left hand side is not far off finished ready for detailing. The center. Not sure what happens there. Low relief buildings? Keep it low level? Raise it. However I have a basic muddy ground texture down. The right hand side needs lots more work on the shape of the road and around the bridge area. I am now confident it will look right in the end. The road I think will become a rarely used muddy track. Don't want to devote the time to scratch building a signal box. So I aim to heavily kit bash this Metcalf one, which didn't cost much. Plasticard and brick paper at the ready. Still a fair bit of work but will be a quicker result. This will sit at the entrance to the yard. Will put this away for a few days now and return afresh. I am aiming to do it on a budget, so I also have the constraint not just of size but trying to use the existing materials I have. Cheers Steve
  19. Spent hours with the dremel, knifes, paper, flour and water and gap filler. Also used fine sand and dried mud as ground cover. Change of plan. Decided to try and get the whole thing looking right. All work in progress. Slowly coming together. Concentrating on getting the shape right and ground cover texture. Not focusing on the colours yet. Need to wait for things to dry overnight. If I get a good nights sleep then another big session tomorrow.
  20. I am hoping I can echo them on the senic board.
  21. Now I can see how the backscene relates to the senic board I am beginning to reshape and tune the hill sides. The weathered disussed bridge is on. The road down to it is too steep. I am leaving that right hand side. And I will focus all my attention on the left. Painted a grey road on to get a feel for where it will run and started to hack bits off and build bits up. Right hand side. No more work on this for a while. Left hand side. All the attention here a long way to go, but it's getting there. It will be good when I get it to the static grass stage.
