  1. I haven't commented on this thread for a long time. This layout has just such a nice feel to it with so many well modeled well observed details. For me it, when you look at it, it is an escape into another world. Which is my motivation for my layouts. Best regards Steve
  2. I would like to say, I think that is excellent weathering. Best regards Steve
  3. Thanks Rob. Yes I saw those yesterday. I want to convert from domino style shown in your link to the plated style. So not what I am looking for. Thanks Steve Although I am now having a closer look and perhaps I could convert them
  4. Hi just a quick question. I want to convert a OO Bachmann split Headcode 37 currently with domino head codes to the later yellow painted plated over split Headcode style. I have had a good look online but can not find a kit that is not sold out. Can anyone point me in the direction of a kit for sale? Thanks.
  5. Unrefurbished 50037, thats been through the carriage washer a few times, bursts out from under the bridge
  6. A deserted yard houses a lone cripple. A set of Mk1s dissappear into the distance.
  7. Rob Thank you for a fascinating set of photographs. Best wishes Steve
  8. That makes all the difference. Looks great. I did the same with my Heljan 47s and an old Bachmann 25
  9. Boxchester stabling point Sunday afternoon. 33053 and 47436
  10. I moved the layout around a bit today and had some fun taking lots of pictures. 56001 in the yard.
  11. Hello Chris. A really enjoyable set of photographs. I am on page 6 at the moment. I will stop posting likes as it will clog your notifications up. Thanks for posting them. With a cup of tea here working my way through them Cheers Steve
  12. Did you happen to notice if they did them for OO when you purchased them
  13. Second pass. I used a scourer to dull the paintwork and knock back and blend in the weathering. Will put them down now and tweak them in a few weeks.
  14. Grubby vans. Ist pass, not totally happy with them. Will tweak them over the coming weeks.
  15. A bit more progress I will post up pictures once they are all back together and I have made the hand rails.
  16. Thanks. All the hours of basic work is done. Want to slowly get into building interest into it. Such as stuff like this from Boxchester. So along way to go yet. The buildings are going to take sometime mind. Cheers Steve
  17. A few more hours today, the grass is now 98% finished. I am going to build some railway cottages for the background. I want to create that more open 70s 80s feel when houses backed onto a yard and things were not so fenced off. So buildings are next. And then I can go for the detail. Tested 73122. 50037 33062 and 33053 all running well. I now have a basic landscape with which to run trains through. My resprayed blue 73 heading out of the tunnel. It's not what I would choose to build but seeing what I can do with limited space.
  18. Spent all day on the static grass. First pass is on. So that is the scenic board covered. I can now spend time on the buildings. And then all the fine detail. Including improving the grass.
  19. Thank you Mark. That was the answer I was expecting. That clears it up for me. The only pics I found of Riveted with later dates on Paul Bartlet's site were internal user. Thanks again. Steve I need to revisit the one on the left then. And the one on the right is going to be really hacked about.....picked it up for 9pounds.
  20. I am slowly compiling a rake of these, kit building and modifying RTR stuff. I am aiming for as much variation as possible. My time frame is the early 80s. My first five, some finished some not. My question is. Would any with rivited bodies survived into the early 80s in revenue earning service? Or would they have all been rebodied by then. Or unrebodied welded. Thanks Steve
  21. I like coal wagons and the weathering effects you can get on them. I spent quite a bit of time spotting in South Wales in the early 80s. So I am slowly getting together a rake of unfitted, fitted rebodied and non riveted, grey and bauxite 21t coal hoppers. For me the wide variation makes it interesting as well their association with the br blue period. So far I have two Parkside kit built and three Hornby RTR that I am hacking about. I am turning two riveted versions I bought on the cheap into later non riveted versions with tops nos. The current state of play, with two finished and one not even started. I will gradually add to them as I go. This is my waggon works area with a variety of vans wagons and a loco needing attention.
  22. He certainly said some pretty positive things about them early on. So perhaps I wouldn't say he was a convinced NAZI but certainly was very supportive from the mid 20s through to 1933. I agree early in 1934 he began to criticise NAZI racial policy. Incidently I visited his grave in Munster a few months back.
  23. To expand... Canares certainly. Rommel I am less sure about, as he was a body guard to Hitler ealier in his career. Certainly by 1944, like many German oficers, he was disillusioned. Incidently my wife works today with a certain Frau Rommel. Also I have found that many people wether they were clergy, officers and so on, who one would consider to be NAZIs in the 30s often dropped their support in the 40s. Cardinal Galen of Munster being a good example. Allegiances changed.
