  1. I hope my two models contribute to a tin of Marsh Umber paint so that they can paint it in a better livery
  2. Sid is due in September. The bogie vans and wagons (which are OO9) are due this month according to the last published schedule.
  3. Sad news. Must admit, Dave had a stand at the N Gauge South East show in Purley a few months ago which I thought had all the appearance of a going out of business 'fire' sale. I didn't say anything at the time, but it now makes more sense.
  4. Looks like a slight mould miss-alignment. It also runs along the boiler to the dome. Hopefully sorted for the production runs. If not, a touch of Mr Surface 500 , sanding and blowing in with the airbrush should cure the problem. No complicated livery in the affected areas fortunately. At the price point of around £230 this is a very good effort from Dapol. I'll be up for one, as well as their small prairie.
  5. If they can get these out for under £100 per coach and the wood effect is good, I'll have one of each .
  6. The teak finish is new. The much maligned third batch after Sander Kan factory stopped Hornby production, had the 'grain' going across panel joints, contributing to the 'MFI' effect. The new stuff seems to be applied 'panel specific'. Still not as good as the original releases, but better than the last stuff. As has been already said however, livery samples and what ends up on the shelves may be completely different.
  7. Wonder if progress would have been as fast if the Hornby product was not already on the shelves. I'm sure many (as I did), were going to wait and compare, but in the end went for the cheaper, possibly inferior but now available Hornby option. The Caley has no real competition to limit sales.

    Job at Hornby

Might be an opportunity to bend Simons ear about your wish list when he pops in for his morning cuppa
  9. The end observation coach is still listed on the Rails of Sheffield website as Peco GR-440 'coming soon' (knew I'd seen it somewhere !)
  10. I was going to wait to see what the Rails / Dapol Terrier was like, but when I saw the Hornby SECR liveried version in Ian Allan at Waterloo on Friday, I caved. I'm aware of its shortcomings thanks to Edwardians many posts, but it's so small, and the photos used to critique it would be 4-5 times bigger than the model itself on most peoples monitors. I'm well pleased with my purchase, and will now add the Southern liveried version and also Stepney when it becomes available.
  11. I saw that the restored autocar is to be the 'centrepiece' at Warley this year, to co-inside with the launch of the model. If by 'launch' they mean available to purchase, that would be a remarkably quick turn around.
  12. Pretty sure I saw somewhere, possibly the Peco stand at Warley or maybe one of the Toyfair reports in one of the magazines, that they do intend to produce the Lynton & Barnstaple brake end observation coach (No 17 ?) in oo9.
  13. Just had an email from Rails. My pre-ordered Birdcages (Southern olive and SECR brown ) are now in stock.
  14. More liveries have been announced for this loco. Hattons has a full list, but it includes olive green, wartime black and BR brunswick green.
  15. IIRC there were 5 types. D30 4 compartment first class D31 4 compartment composite 2 first class 2 second class D32 5 compartment third class D33 5 compartment second class (externally the same as D32) D34 3 compartment brake third This is from memory. Happy to be corrected by someone with better knowledge
  16. So as a DC luddite, can someone please explain to me how I can 'turn DC back on' ?
  17. Yes, Scotsman and Papyrus IIRC. Very impressive. I would have preferred the GN tender but still very nice. Surprised Hattons Dave has not posted pics yet.
  18. Was it fate that put Hornby and Hattons side by side at Ally Pally this weekend ? Half expected to see Simon and the guys from Hattons fencing across the divide with 00 gauge 66's instead of rapiers
  19. Birdcages next month. Yummy. Then safe until the C class in August.
  20. Thank-you Daddyman. I'll look into this further now. With your info, I think it's possible. The boiler diameter is only 0.7mm at scale and I can live with that. I've ordered the NB and LNER versions, but for the conversion I think I'll wait to see if one of the box-shifters puts a hefty discount on the J36 later in the year. That way if I make a pigs ear of the modification the financial loss will be less.
  21. So does anyone know what would be involved in backdating the J36 to the earlier Stirling Single style cab ? Would it just be a new cab or are other alterations needed ? Presumably the Hornby cab is a separate moulding and fairly straight forward to remove.
  22. Infact the Hornby mail-shot actually says 'In Stock'
