  1. Birmingham New Street, 1978, and a Class 317 at Kings Cross Midland City Station, 29 October 1984.
  2. I recently came across this picture currently available on EBay, presumably a tank from Torrington: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fremington-Railway-Station-Photo-Barnstaple-Instow-Bideford-Line-L-SWR-7-/262766841135 Ian
  3. Three at Banbury: 56 068 assisting failed 47 513, 29 June 1981 56 017 with MGR empties from Didcot PS, 18 April 1983 56 095 with a Didcot bound MGR, derailed while setting back into Banbury Yard. Rerailed by the Bescot crane later in the day. In the background, a reminder of when long distance cross country trains were still fit for purpose. 14 June 1983.
  4. Here’s a BRUFF doing a bit of shunting. On 22-6-88 the Bescot trip, 6V03, derailed during shunting at Banbury (as an aside, in the process, demolishing the last remaining GWR triple disc ground signal at Banbury, the others being of LMR origin). The BRUFF was used in clearing up.
  5. I hadn’t noticed that until you pointed it out!! Ian
  6. A few pictures I took at Milton Keynes, many years ago. Looks like black, or maybe a dark grey, and a dirty grey beyond the reach of the washer perhaps? The TSO has a damaged outer window pane in the centre incidentally. Ian
  7. I seem to recall this was a regular Saturday morning working, probably from Lawley St., and presumably used the loco off the FO Portsmouth Harbour-Leeds.
  8. Fenny Compton 15-11-1980 92220 "Evening Star" on "The Zenith", Paddington-Chester train, 92220 worked Didcot-Saltley & 6000 Shrewsbury-Chester. Class 25 to assist an ailing class 47 on an up train at Fenny. Edit: I’ve added a sound recording made at the time, in pouring rain. 92220_&_Class_25_Fenny_15Nov80.mp3
  9. The Mid-Hants Railway at Alton, 9-2-1985: 08 288 during Alton-Medstead track laying.
  10. The Dart Valley Railway at Totnes, 28-5-1985: Running round at Totnes Station. Waiting the road at Totnes Riverside (50 031 on up vans) The loco is Hunslet 3882, one time NCB Maesteg’s “Maureen”, nowadays completely rebuilt into something else, as seen above: https://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/uploads/monthly_2020_06/2D2E0AA3-F028-4C2B-A25F-CA9FFEA3D0A5.png.e51589f4a3bcb5abfbdad66d7ba1c7db.png
  11. A couple of freightliner pics: 33 111 & 33 063 near Somerton (between Banbury and Oxford) 26-2-83 33 029, Aynho Junction, 21-1-84
  12. A few at Peak Forest. 37 883 on 6V23 SO Tunstead-Margam banked by 47 228, 25-2-89 37 714 on 6V23 SO Tunstead-Margam banked by 37 411, 8-4-89 37 411, Peak Forest banker, T83, 15-3-89
  13. A slight livery variation: black bufferbeams, yellow buffers, overhead warning flashes on the rear but not on the sides. 08 784 drawing some wagons out of the yard during a shunt, Banbury, 29 June 1981.
  14. A couple of named ones. 08 477 “Private W Wood VC”, Buxton, 13-8-82. The name was previously carried by a Claughton and a Patriot, and now according to Wikipedia, a Wetherspoons in Hazel Grove is named after him. Shame there’s no longer a loco carrying his name, given what he did. 08 786 “Wilf”, Banbury, November 1983.
  15. Birmingham area to Aynho Junction crew training trip, crossing from the Up Goods to Down Main, Aynho Jct, 28 October 1981.
  16. Hello, All very interesting. I wonder if for DC operation the supply needs to be a smooth dc or would it work on the output of an electronic speed controller? I’ve recently fitted a Zimo decoder with Simplex sound in a 20/28 Simplex, radio controlled via an RC/DCC interface, and have the same set up in a Protected Simplex. It isn’t cheap, but I would use other sound projects in other locos if I could dispense with the interface, albeit with the loss of functions. A bit of video of the 20/28 working (battery powered, Zimo decoder with Paul’s sound project controlled via RC): https://youtu.be/sCCJC3Toy5c Ian
  17. Still the same train in the September 1962-June 1963 timetable....
  18. Dug out an interior picture of NHA M92026. This was shortly after modification to run at 110mph, and repainted in InterCity livery outside. 11th May 1985 (formed in a Banbury to Tenby excursion).
  19. A bit off topic, but for the record 50 007 on 00.20 Paddington-Oxford, and to the left on Platform 8 BSK 34666 formed in 1B00 00.50 Paddington-Swansea, 17-3-86.
