  1. That is going to look fantastic when finished 👍
  2. I think it's still a bit early to be worrying about it. We don't know, and we have no way of knowing. Oxford stuff has always been priced very competitively, so until we know for sure I'm certainly going to stay more on the hopeful side. Edit: As proved by the fact the J26s are still at an RRP of £130 (£110 at some retailers) despite global economic factors that have happened since they were first announced.
  3. Wow, that moss and puddle area is really effective! Love little details like that 👌
  4. Given the popularity of SECR in the hobby, it would be a HUGE missed opportunity if they didn't release one in full lined Wainwright livery which the real ones carried.
  5. This image from Rails of Sheffield gives decent close up views of the front and the lamps/lamp brackets.
  6. Nice to see the Midland style match wagon progressing 👌
  7. This is one of those very much going over well trodden paths arguments/conversations, and as always it goes back to you can't please everyone. We all have our opinions, and we've all aired them many times in many threads over many years....and it isn't going to change any time soon! 😄 End of the day our personal opinions don't matter as much as our wallets do, and so the market ebbs and flows with how we spend our money.
  8. Funnily enough I've been considering 2D passengers for my Liverpool & Manchester Railway project, as I don't want to add much weight to the trains and 1830s carriages are so small.
  9. Can it be conclusively proved added detail is adding considerable costs, as opposed to the modern global economic factors which are causing prices to rise in all areas not just this hobby? Because there are plenty of other hobbies where prices have increased considerably, but detail has not. Only the manufacturers themselves can really answer the question but I know which side of the argument I stand on having seen this happening in many places outside model railways. Edit: You only have to look at prices being charged by certain manufacturers for toolings that are 10-20 years old at this point. There are far bigger factors at play.
  10. Not too surprising given just how much the global economic situation has changed since the initial ones were announced.
  11. Like others I thought it was intentional, it makes it look like a used building. Doesn't look out of place at all! I'm sure there are plenty of corrugated buildings out there with dents and dings and buckling.
  12. Well of course, hobbies are always better when everyone does exactly the same and have to stick rigidly to "rules" set down by people who know better 😉
  13. To be fair there is so much conflicting info, lack of concrete info, and questionable illustrations from the time it's easy to question and doubt things. Early railways are such a minefield 😄
  14. I got my L&M mail coach yesterday, and am fairly happy with it. But it was only later I noticed it's missing royal cyphers and coat of arms. I'll get some decals printed up at some point as both William IV's cypher and pre-Victoria UK coat of arms are available online. And before anyone says "oh you can't trust these old illustrations" vehicles for carrying mail carried royal markings. The road stage mail coaches had them, and it carried over to the railways.
  15. Excellent! That trackwork is looking very effective even at this stage. I assume the Derwent is a Newman one? How easy did you find the valve gear to make?
  16. I never cease to be utterly blown away by your scenic modelling, it's just.....wow!
  17. I normally hate BR Blue, but for some reason really like it on the VoR locos and stock. I guess precisely because it is so out of the ordinary 😄

  19. During the war I'd imagine stock got around much more than it did in peacetime.
  20. Fizzog was common in our family, and we're from the Midlands so it seems to be quite widely used.
  21. But the point remains that green lining on black locos was not phased out until 1934-36, so there is still a 3-5 year period where post-prefix numbers and green lining lived side-by-side. Those just happen to be the only photos I've found from a very brief search. Edit: Both Bachmann and Dapol have previously done models of locomotives (C Class 1573 and B4 88) in lined black with post-prefix numbers.
  22. In fact here are two photos of E1s with numbers in the 2xxx series in lined black. 2151 is indeed lined, it's just very faded. It is possible to just about make out the lining on the tank corner, splasher, and running plate.
  23. Prefixes were dropped in 1931, green lining was dropped between 1934-36.
