  1. Looking good, well done. If you go onto Youtube, there is a Humbrol channel containing many videos on painting, weathering etc. They are well worth watching. There is even a demonstration of painting a tank in camaflage a bit like yours (the colour edges are wavy rather than straight) using maskol.
  2. Thanks for the info. That's quite tempting and I could do with the cash at the moment.
  3. I'm hoping someone can give me a few pointers. My 05 has suddenly started running badly, but only in one direction. Running backwards (cab first) it runs fine. But going forward (bonnet first) something is wrong, it is erratic with a ticking sound like something is catching, particularly every half revoloution. It sound like something is catching in the gears, but if it was I would expect the problem to be in both directions.
  4. Many thanks for the video, great to see them working.
  5. Please keep the blog going, its a big help. I've got a similar airbrush and compressor and I'm learning too. Weathered seven locos with it today without any problems.
  6. Glad to see the 58s bavk in use. Hope someone gets some video.
  7. Many thanks Richard E, your post has kept me dry. Had it been Scotsman I might have nipped out with my camera, but its pouring down, blowing a gale and I've got lots of pics of the 8F, so I'll stay in.
  8. Carnforth - Hellifield - Carnforth path today has been activated. Suggests a test run from WCRC depot.
  9. Today I was off to my model railway club (70 miles away). In the car I had my airbrush, a few locos for weathering and appropriate reference books. These included a Vitrains 37 and the 'Syphon Salute' book to use as a guide for weathering. However, I had only got 5 miles when the M6 came to a halt due to a lorry carrying shortbread catching fire. I was stuck there for over three hours. I was tempted to try and couple the airbrush up to my spare tyre and get on with the painting, but decided against it. Instead, I passed the time re-reading the excellent book accompanied by 'English Electric Thrash' on the CD player. There was a happy ending though, having abandoned the trip to the model railway club, I was back in time to see Flying Scotsman going through Lancaster.
  10. Raced through Lancaster. Looks like there is a path tomorrow for a test run.
  11. I arranged a day off work for the original test run. Wonder when it will be now?
  12. Well done. While I've heard many people say don't buy a cheap airbrush, I went for one a bit like yours. I wasn't sure how I would get on with an airbrush, so I didn't want to spend a fortune. In practice I'm very happy with my purchase and I hope you are too.
  13. Tired tonight so I sat down and watched a couple of VHS tapes I had picked up somewhere. The first was 'Britains Railway Heritage, Archive British Diesel & Electric Traction volume 2'. While the quality of the tape was poor, it did include some real gems, Green Falcon, Blue Pullman, class 74, one of the southen 1-co-co-1 locos, and some shots of a five car APT-P. Excellent. So if someone produces a 5 car APT its fine to run it on our layouts.
  14. Many thanks for the update. Meant I didn't have to sit out in the cold with my camcorder.
  15. I've made a short video of the Cumbrian Coast 37's. If you are interested, you can watch it here. I've had to lower the quality in order not to exceed my free download limit. If people like it, I might pay to upgrade my Vimeo account so you can watch it in HD.
  16. Last year I went out with my camcorder and videoed the 37s on the Cumbrian Coast Line. You can watch the video I made here, I've had to reduce the quality in order to upload it without exceeding my free allowance. If people like it, I might upgrade my vimeo account so you can see it in HD. Please let me know what you think.
  17. Some Christmas decorations have moving figures, eg skating on ice. You could try usng the mechanism from one.
  18. To make it even more interesting, how about some ducks in the puddles? Even better if they move
  19. Thanks for the info. I'll be in my local model shop in a few days time, so will try and pick some up. Thanks again.
  20. Really like the 31 driver. Would appreciate knowing what figure you used and how you got him in there.
  21. Many thanks for posting the coach photos. I hadn't realised that there was a 'Inter City Scotrail' logo.
  22. Bump, wondering if there will be any open days at the Littledale Railway this year?
  23. What's all that stuff hanging off the front of the loco on the top picture?
