  1. There is quite a story there in your excellent photos. Who would have thought that in 2016 we would have a dark blue 87 on a passenger train in York. Then the railway modellers dream, a single maroon coach sandwiched between Flying Scotsman and a drab red 37.
  2. Good to hear there is still interest in the APT-E at the Beeb.
  3. Test Match special got interrupted by a very nice sound; two DRS 37s running light to Heysham opened up with lots of thrash as they passed.
  4. Back on wallpaper stripping, today its to the sound of Test Match Special.
  5. By the time it gets here there will be no coal trains running.
  6. Stripping the wallpaper off the living room ceiling today to the sounds of, Steve Hillage, Rainbow Dome Misik Tangerine Dream, Force Majure The Nice, Five Bridges Despite the music I didn't get the job finished.
  7. I've heard that Adrian Shooter's DHR steam loco has been loaned to the Ffestiniog Railway.
  8. It's a couple of years since I viewed the house (looking for somewhere for my parents) and most of the viaduct was intact. It was also possible to trace most of the trackbed of the garden railway. However, a conservatory seemed to be a fairly recent addition and that had severed part of the trackbed and one end of the viaduct., a great shame really. The property is still for sale on Rightmove, here is the link, http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-39982899.html Look at picture 6 and you can see the viaduct.
  9. Its all in the name 'DB Cargo'. The loco clearly displays 'DB' logos, but not the word cargo. So what 'DB Cargo' means is 'DB' is 'cargo' for the road haulage people.
  10. Gven that it seems best to keep the APT-E coupled, perhaps there is an opportunity for Locomotion to sell a 'sort of tube with rails in' for people to keep their model in.
  11. Some pics from wreak Scarecrow festival
  12. Delighted to hear you had a good day with plenty of visitors. Disappointed that work prevents me from getting there. My coach driving job yesterday was taking a group interested in architecture & history to various churches designed by Edmund Sharpe; he was also involved in the line to Green Ayre, I told them about your railway event, some were planning to go.
  13. For those who like 37s, here is 37401 leaving Kents Bank this morning. https://vimeo.com/164753539
  14. Here is a video clip of 37401 leaving Kents Bank this morning. https://vimeo.com/164753539
  15. Please please please can we have a tour using the Hastings unit starting in the North West?
  16. I'm at Oxenholme today, where some major engineering work is taking place. A class 70 brought a long train of open bogie waggons into the station and has drawn its train forward one waggon at a time as ballast is being dug up and replaced. This has taken several hours, during which time the class 70 has been using lots of fuel. Perhaps this type of job would suit a 88. Bring the train up the WCML on electric power, use the small diesel engine to shunt the waggons.
  17. Ran mine yesterday for the first time on a friends layout. Joined all four coaches together no problem, everything working as it should, sound great. Exceptional model. As I'm currently planning my own layout, can anyoune advise the smallest radius curves it can negotiate without the nose going outside the loading gauge and catching on platforms, other trains etc? A challenge for Rapido, make a version with a nose which swivels on curves so it stays in the loading gauge!
  18. Plus John Cleese from the Ministry of Silly Walks.
  19. Sign outside a shop in Lancaster today. What happens to a French car when it breaks down? It gets toad away.
  20. True story. Blind man and his dog got on the bus this morning. When getting off at the hospital, the blind man says to the driver 'see you tomorrow'. I wonder what the miracle cure the blind man was about to have.
  21. My 05 has been repaired by Howes, reasonable price, happy with the result.
  22. While searching for something else, I found these. First a photo of my garden railway at my previous house, them some of the Harz in 2010.
  23. If you really want to enjoy your retirement, lay some track in your garden and get a LGB 2-10-2T with sound. Watch and listen to it running at dusk, its awesome. I first went to the Harz in the late 1980's, what a place. I've still got the sound cine film I took there. Been there several times since, one year my wife and I camped at Schierke and spent an afternoon riding up the Brocken with our bikes in the brake van, then cycling down, did it several times much to the amusement of the HSB staff. Had a footplate ride too.
