  1. Shame, how about a RM web open day?
  2. Saw the Scarab working - amazing, fantastic piece of madelling. Driver needed more practice though
  3. I've always used meths and a rag to clean the rails. It's worked fine for me for 30 years.
  4. I thought a preserved one in blue livery was used on the construction of the channel tunnel (or rail link to it).
  5. You can pour it into small odd shaped nooks & crannies and fix it in place with glue. Works well. If you've got lots of space eg inside box van, you can glue anything in, I've used old nuts and bolts.
  6. There are temporary road signs in Kendal, "Road closed for 5 days, delays likely'. I wonder who will sit there for 5 days waiting for the road to reopen?
  7. Yup, I was driving the bus on the bridge today. On the Settle to Skipton bus service just north of Hellifield when a Pacer went underneath. I also saw the southbound log train near Settle Junction, but missed the Winter Cumbrian Mountain Express as I didn't think my passengers would have appreciated waiting an hour for me to get a photo.
  8. I certainly agree, Diesels in the Highlands is a superb album. Unfortunatly, I don't think Transacord have found the orignal recordings (yet). Glad I still have my LP.
  9. One guy at Kendal Show today was a candidate for lynching. He was well dressed, clean, odour free and his backpack was sufficiently small to be acceptable. However he clearly had the nasty cold/flu bug which has been circulating around the area for ages, as demonstrated by his coughing and sneezing. A great way of clearing other visitors from around layouts so he got a good view, but I wonder how many operators now have his germs.
  10. Jim, have you thought of trying the Train Tec lighting strips? They are battery powered so you don't need any wiring and use motion sensors to turn on and off. I've got one to fit in my 153 when I get a break from work. ColinK
  11. Oh dear, this could be expensive. That large logo 60 looks fantastic. The 60 was just too modern for my layout, but a blue one would be fine
  12. I've used Gaugemaster and Modelex handhelds and they have both been fine.
  13. Now listening to 'Shap' the Peter Handford LP just purchased as a digital download.
  14. Many thanks for posting the photo, that is a great help to me.
  15. Good luck with this. In my previous house I had a G scale garden railway inspired by the HSB.
  16. Thanks for that. I used to see the Kersley locos regularly and thought they had been scrapped. Now I live quite close to Heysham! Looks like I'll have to go to Coventry!
  17. It would be really helpful if someone who know what he is doing could post a short video showing how to seal a speaker with blue tack.
  18. Many thanks for posting this as I would probably not found out. Agree, Sleeve notes or track listings on the web would be useful Hope they will release the full set of recordings.
  19. Does driving the bus count. Went over a railway bridge near Hellifield when a train went underneath - don't think the passengers would be happy if I tried to take a photo.
  20. When I was very young we had many family holidays at Berwick-upon-Tweed. Standing on the pier you could hear Deltics heading north for miles, before coming into view above Spittal, through Tweedmouth and over the Royal Border Bridge. A sound never to be forgotton. Many thanks to everyone for preserving a few Deltics for us all to still enjoy.
  21. Many thanks for that David. I've just done both my ProCab's. Took about 30 minutes. Was very easy as you said - even for me. Hardest part was finding the insulation tape in my railway room. Such a simple, invisable, and reversable modification. Now to find out what the CV's should be on my class 15 before the momentum button messed them up. Thanks again, ColinK
  22. Thanks for that David. I'm tempted to open it up and put some tape (insulation tape?) between the contacts, is it fairly straightforward or is there a risk of me wrecking the handset?
  23. One happy Merrymaker trip was Stockport to, i think Clacton. I got off at Colchester and had a happy day on the station. I had with me a portable reel to reel tape recorder and the guard openned the corridor connection so I could record the 37. However, the steam heating pipes were leaking so all I got was a load of hiss. Great trip though.
  24. Yes happy days. I recall going on loads of Merrymakers from Stockport.
  25. Many thanks for the clear explaination Nigel. All but one of my decoders are Loksound (v3.5 and V4), so locking the decoder would solve my momentum problem. Being able to unlock is important as I have the volume low for home use and higher for exhibhitions. So I can do that too. The odd one out decoder is a Zimo. Thanks again. ColinK
