G'Day Folks After lighting the log burner in the shed and letting it warm up a bit, the track work in the loco shed was tackled, laying the track where I think is best. Then it was all pined down, we have a storage siding beside the shed, visible from passing trains, then the shed road, behind the shed is the coal road complete with a kick back siding for empty coal wagons a cripple loco's. My very old Dublo Brake-Down now has a home behind the shed, and the snow plough is parked at the end of the headshunt. Next track job, sort that double slip kink out! manna
  2. G'day Folks The last lot of motors I just bought from China, 10 for $20, are from the 'electric side mirrors' for the car, this is the second lot I've bought, the first lot have done very well in all my loco's. manna
  3. G'Day Folks I would rather build a kit of Gresley Garratt, with half the bits missing. High point, Non stop............Low point, end of steam. manna
  4. G'day Folks Another update..........amazing. Bit different this time, actually modifying one of my own locos, that I built 30+ years ago. I built a J5 on a Wrenn chassis, but it's been masquerading as a J5 for far to long, so I've pulled it apart and modifying to a J4, 1081 series, it needs a new cab, different chimney, and the boiler has to be lowered, it didn't take long to come apart, the cab has been kept, you never know ? boiler has been lowered and a J52 chimney has been fitted, just the cab to make, The pics below show it with two tenders, but I'll probably go with the Kitmaster one for the time being. The other I'll use on the J1. manna
  5. G'Day Folks When you forget to close the hopper door.
  6. G'day Folks As expected a Peppercorn A1, for passenger, and what about 'Tommy' for freight. manna

G'Day Folks Is that on the line on the bottom left of the pic ?? I know that has a slight kink, I'll have to dig out a bit of ballast, so I can slew it around a bit. manna

G'Day Folks A bit of time allowed me to lay a couple of feet of track plus the double slip, and it works, I had my fingers crossed. I now have the arrival road and headshunt operational again, any more time will allow me to lay the track in the loco yard. manna
  9. G'day Folks A small update, Back on the J1 (also trackwork), quite a lot of chassis has been removed, to lower the body, now things should move a bit faster !!! A couple of pics to keep you interested. manna
  10. G'Day Folks I have to agree with others on this thread, A4 and O2. manna
  11. G'Day Folks I don't think there are any RTR chassis suitable for these classes of loco, all the J17-19-20's had a very long wheelbase, I have modified a Hornby 3F 0-6-0 to a J17, (chassis not withstanding) I have also used a modified B12 body on a Hornby 0-6-0 chassis to make a J19, the J20 is just to big. (Sorry no pics of the J19) manna
  12. G'Day Folks I'm going for a Small Atlantic, as they led to the Large Atlantic, goods is a little harder, for that I'll go for the J3, they had long non exciting lives, but did a lot of hard work. manna

G'Day Folks 31A, I'm sure I can build one out of plastic, it'll be right at the back of the layout. manna

G'Day Folks Well the river didn't rise and a couple of hours in the shed saw the redundant track removed and the new(ish) track place where it will be laid (time permitting) Which brings me to the next problem (don't they multiply), a coal supply, (I have water columns), do I build a old type coal stage or a bit more modern LNER electric coal hoist ( like KX bottom shed !!!) the type 31A built last year. manna
  15. G'Day Folks I've heard about the NBLC, and I know a lot of Indian and South African loco where built there, but I think this is one of the most impressive. Forget about any of there Diesels. manna

G'day Folks I'd forgotten about the double slips on the GN 'Long' crossings. You are right, they did love them. manna
  17. G'Day Folks Better go for one them NBR Atlantic's then, hope they were built there !! manna

G'Day Folks Thanks for that, OK, tomorrow, if the river don't rise, I'll dig out the old track/ballast and give it a go. manna
  19. G'day Folks Screw it to the door frame, have two doors. manna

G'day Folks Going to ask for a bit of help today, Edgware isn't strictly to scale, with the branch to London Colney and St Albans, which makes Edgware a Junction of sorts, with all the extra traffic, I'm going to add a small engine shed. I picked up a double slip for $20 yesterday, which I want to incorporate into the goods yard, there is a small headshunt siding, but by fitting the double slip, it'll give me a bigger headshunt (3') siding making shunting more realistic. First pic shows where it's going to go. Pic 2, in place. Pic 3 Where the loco shed will be. does it look realistic. pic 4, Is Atlantic 3299 passing 'The Hales' goods yard. manna
  21. G'day Folks Enjoy all your layouts. If you want to keep the cat out, make a door frame and put some chicken wire on it, you'll still get the breeze. manna
