  1. G'Day Folks If I may. At Kings Cross, if we were keep in the Milk Dock to long we would shut our engines down, (never had one not start) but starting a class 31 at 4 am, made more noise than an idling one. In winter, we had a 4.10 am start, to work trains from Welwyn GC or Hertford North, (to Moorgate) we would ride out to Finsbury Pk, walk out to the Depot, see the depot Foreman, who would give us our loco no. to work. we would then walk out to 'Lines' of loco's standing in the freezing cold, frost, snow or sleet, climb aboard, and start up, Never once did we have a class 31 that wouldn't start, I'm not saying that it didn't happen, but not to me, ( Some of those Class 31's had been sitting there since Friday night, if it was a Monday morning) then it was a nice little light engine ride to either W-G-C or H-North, where we would sit for a couple of hours, steam heating the train. manna
  2. G'day Folks I tow a Caravan, so I usually get caught behind the slow drivers, 85-90 kph, until they hit that sign, up to 100-105 kph, by the time I've caught the Bu**ers up, the overtaking lane finishes, and the're back to 85-90kph. Agggggghhhhh!!!! manna
  3. G'Day Folks Don't forget Peterborough's fuel point, just a nice little glass shed, (same as Kings Cross) manna
  4. G'day Folks I came across a great pic of the change over period for the Coronation set a while back, now if Hornby could recreate this scene..........................! manna
  5. G'Day Folks I think China would use Paratroops, to take a port city, casualties, doesn't matter, once they have a port, then the heavy stuff can arrive. In Australia's case, there's not a lot of point in taking a beach (that won't be defended) if it's thousands of miles from anywhere, Half a dozen 'Tankers' parked off Brisbane (loaded with ground troops and tanks) then 1 Jumbo jet arrive's at the airport, again loaded with troops, could take and hold the Airport in 30 mins 14 other Jumbos arrive, full of troops, the Port is very close to the airport, allowing the 'tankers' to dock. it would take a long time to to even try to get them out... manna
  6. G'Day Folks I was fairly lucky, I wear normal glasses, and they slip over the top of them, but they were still hot enough, to almost singe my eyebrows and temple. As for branding myself with the seat belt buckle, it was tucked down the side of the door, so shaded. manna
  7. G'Day Folks Went down the shops early, to beat the heat, when I got back to the car, without thinking, I popped my sunglasses on, that had been sitting on the dashboard, one micro second later, they were back on the dash, absolutely red hot. manna
  8. G'Day Folks It can get 'Very' hot in Oz.
  9. G'day Folks Christmas/New year theme.
  10. G'Day Folks China also used a comment about Taiwan, as, '100 hours and a few dozen casualties' Taiwan is 36,000 sq km2, so it's pretty big, and has 23.5 million people, so to think 100 hours and only a few dozen casualties, is idiotic thinking. Someone could get a very 'Bloody' nose. manna
  11. G'Day Folks You could buy yourself a small table saw, cut hundreds of bits wood straight, everytime. manna
  12. G'Day Folks I had a XB Coupe, back in the early 90's, that was a Beast, 351 cu in, T bar Auto., Now drive a Pajero, 4x4, Great for towing Caravans, but not a patch on the XB. manna
  13. G'Day Folks This may have been up before.........
  14. G'day Folks I can see that melting if it gets to hot................ manna
  15. G'Day Folks I've always been told/read/heard that the Pyramids, were the tombs of dead Pharaohs, who, believed in the afterlife and took all their worldly goods with them, (as seen with 'King Tut'), First of all, the dead were buried underground, the 'Pyramid' was just the headstone or marker, slowly this became and actual burial place as the Pyramids got bigger, the same still happens to-day, 'Mines Bigger than Yours" until it culminated in the three largest Pyramids at 'Giza', The trouble is, when you advertise your wealth, you are inviting people to steal it, all the Pyramids were looted within a few years, so the Pharaohs, became a lot more careful, hiding their bodies and loot, in small underground tombs in remote valleys away from prying eyes, even that didn't help, as the people building the tombs, were the ones looting them a year or two later. As for all the Carp, written about them, it's just that, 'Mostly' Carp. On a lighter note, here's wishing you all a Happy New year, and don't you wish to be near the Beach
  16. G'Day Folks Cheops pyramid, was a tomb, but was looted in antiquity, his sarcophagus is still there. manna
  17. G'day Folks I thought this is appropriate, for the heatwave Adelaide has been going through, we, who live in the Mid-North of SA, were issued with a fire warning to Evacuate, yesterday "Before' a fire was found, because the weather forecast was, Catastrophic, needless to say, nothing happened, but it could have......Yesterday was 40c + and High winds, with a Dry Thunderstorm, luckily the Thunderstorm didn't happen. manna
