  1. G'Day Folks 'It never rains on Peterborough', you don't get those lovely fogs that used to roll in from the Fens either..............smoke machine !!!!!!!! manna
  2. G'Day Folks Haven't read every post yet, but I would like to see a J6, 0-6-0 tender engine. A Sentinal, Steam railcar, all those great names. Out of left field...................Ex GN six wheeler coaches or LNER Post Office coaches. manna
  3. G'day Folks 4470's bodyshell, is one of the first 'Flying Scotsman's' ever produced, I bought it secondhand in 1970, when I moved from BR(E) to LNER, seeing that everybody had 4472, I changed mine to 4470, even built a new tender, it stayed like that until a few years ago, so it's lived longer than the real one, I have a couple of A1 and A3's bodies, but that one is the closest, when I started to cut into the body, it was cracking, it's so old and brittle. I still have the nameplates for 'Great Northern' she will live again. manna

G'day Folks I did kinda measure up a four track bridge, for the Midland mainline, but it looked so out of place, it would have been something like 300 mm wide, so I'm sticking with Bunns Rd bridge. manna
  5. G'day Folks. Over a month since I last posted, and already down to page 4 !! Not a lot happening, working on the layout, kinda lost interest with building loco's at the moment, haven't touched the B1 or C1 since the last post, doing a bit with the cylinders and valve gear, and as usual, started another loco, doing bits in dribs and drabs. I had a spare (Hornby) 2-8-0 chassis laying around, which I kept looking at, then one day I lined up the valve gear off of a D49, thinking a O2 might be possible, then everything exploded.....a P1 ?? a quick dash out to the shed and back with a Very old A3 body, a bit of hacking and bashing and we have this........... manna

G'day Folks. well it's that time of the year to do a bit more work on the layout, I get to easily distracted by engine building, but I seem to have lost my mojo for engine building at the moment, which is the layouts gain, I've been slowly building up the ground level around Mill Hill station, not to high as you won't see the station or the trains, the cutting in real life wasn't to deep, a little bit more than the height of a train. That's been plastered, for about 5ft, and before I go any further, I wanted to get the station in, so I won't damage anything at the front. Some 15 mm ply was cut fitted to the baseboard, held down with PVA and nails (nailgun) then 3 mm ply was cut to a template I had made earlier, and as usual, the Jigsaw blade was to blunt to cut it, and not having a spare, I had to use a panel saw, by just using the tip it cut the ply to the curve I wanted, this was jiggled about to get the best fit, using a BR Mk 2 coach to make sure I could run it through without it touching the edges, then that to was glued and nailgunned down, the only bit I couldn't nail down us under the Air Con, that is only glued down, a LNER wagonplate will make sure it stays in place. manna
  7. G'Day boxbrownie. Yes, I knew Ron, we sometimes traveled up to work on the same train, I've also work ECS with him, bit of a shock to hear that he died ealrier this year. A lot of the Drivers at KX, that I worked with have passed, David Johns, went a couple of months ago. manna
  8. G'Day Folks Not a good idea, using the loo on a Deltic, when it was doing a 100 mph..........it went everywhere ! I did have a Deltic up to 105 mph, with a VERY late running sleeper, left Peterborough at least 2 hours late, really opened up as we passed the old 'Farrows Peas' factory, 105 by Connington. manna
  9. G'Day Folks According to the Dr. I'm OK, not overweight, but I've put on a few Kilos since I retired, but I might be Obverse !! Then again........
