  1. OT, but this is possibly the best thing ever written on RMWeb... Best Scott.
  2. Yes, my apologies; for I was being ( a little) facetious. I would be fine with the wiring up (I envisage some redundant car speakers screwed under the baseboard at the platform ends, perhaps where there are some signals, etc.) It was more the programming of the processing kit, etc. that would lose me. I wrote some basic BASIC programming back when ZX Spectrum was almost cutting edge, but since then it's all become a black art. I understand Arduino programs are now called scripts? Beyond that it's all beyond my ken. Anyway, apologies for the diversion. I say plonk the RTP buildings and get your railway running, worry about the future when the future comes. Best Scott.
  3. Alas you've almost lost me at Arduino Nano and definitely lost me at DFMiniPlayer 🙃. The good thing about being a Licensed Helicopter Engineer (Airframe and Propulsion) is you don't need to worry too much about the stuff that goes on in the black boxes... Best Scott.
  4. The issue being discussed on this thread is not that Hornby are selling direct. The issue is that customers placed orders with retailers (Hornby approved, tier 1 retailers) who subsequently placed these orders with Hornby all in good faith, only for Hornby to turn around and say, months down the line, you’re not getting all those items you ordered (37 for one particular model is used as an example at the start of the thread), you’re getting one. Oh and by the way, the other 36 customers can buy their models from us direct. Hornby either want a dealer network or they don’t. But it is seriously bad form to use a dealer network to garner and accept pre-orders only to turn around and say the dealer can’t have the items ordered. That is what is generating the animosity. Rapido, Accurascale, Revolution Trains all sell direct and in some cases via approved dealers (shops), but everyone knows up front what the deal is and, as far as I’m aware, none have yet failed to deliver on their pre-orders, neither directly nor through said dealers. Best Scott.
  5. I think that is exactly what it means. I take this: "If this demonstration proves successful it is proposed to extend the facility which will then be subject to a further planning application as appropriate." to mean that siding may be laid later, if justified. Best Scott.
  6. This is interesting for me, because I am thinking of doing the same thing. I do operate via DCC, but in N-Gauge especially, I'm not interested in sound on board the locomotive. So if you would be kind enough to share your investigations in that regard, that would be super... Best Scott.
  7. Hello Sam, No progress on this at all, mainly for health reasons. Track plan attached below. @Clagmeister Sorry, I missed your comment of March last year! Best Scott.
  8. Indeed. I really meant the length of the platforms suggested short "shuttle" type services. Best Scott.
  9. That's very interesting, I hadn't been aware of that station before. Capacity looks low, so I'm guessing services ran between Southsea and Portsmouth Harbour? or maybe only Portsmouth Town? Best Scott.
  10. I received a text message from Royal Pail saying they will deliver on a particular day this week. Best Scott.
  11. Again, agreed. That would be best. I was minded to say the same, however I decided to keep my alternative on a pound for pound, same size book for same size book basis. Best Scott.
  12. Agreed. The otherwise excellent Master Neverers volumes occasionally suffer from this. Running such well crafted images across two pages through the spine just doesn't do them justice, in my view. Many of my aviation related photo books suffer the same affliction. I, for one, would have preferred these images to be reduced in size, turned through 90 degrees and presented as a landscape image on one page, i.e. requiring the reader to turn the book for proper viewing. Best Scott.
  13. Very nice work, David, overall and on details like this. Might I make a suggestion regarding the signals? Whilst working versions of these signals might, understandably, be a bridge too far (sorry!), I’d suggest it might be advantageous to at least make them poseable, for photographic purposes? Best Scott.
  14. MC-130J I think. There are six at Mildenhall. these are for Special Operations use so frequently at low level. They are used for infiltration, e filtration and resupply of SO troops. They are also used to air-refuel SO helicopters. The one you saw would most likely, then, be carrying out training. best Scott
  15. thanks for the information so far. For clarity my project is set in Glasgow so I’m concerned primarily with trains to and from Glasgow. best scott.
  16. Can anyone advise the situation in the above time period regarding locomotive changes on trains between London and Glasgow. I'm aware that many Glasgow trains changed locomotives at Crewe. Did the same happen at Carlisle? Also what about the other way, Glasgow - London? Did the locomotive come off at Carlisle and then Crewe? Trains between Glasgow and Liverpool/Manchester, Same locomotive throughout or change at Carlisle? My roster will use mainly Type 4s (40) and Princess Coronations for the London trains. Jubilee and Royal Scots for the Liverpool/Manchester. Many thanks Best Scott.
  17. Viewers might remember I took advantage of the offer on Horizon Zero Dawn a while ago. I haven’t had much time to play it; however my immune system has now been visited by the ‘rona so I had a run at it this afternoon. I’m not far into it (8%?) and only just met the Corruptor for the first time. I need to figure out the best way to defeat him/her/it. loving it though, I have to say. And a main protagonist I actually care about. best Scott.
  18. London Upper Service and London Middle Service (in the context of flight levels and heights) Best Scott.
  19. No, that's correct. We don't have any. I understand there is a Dutch mobile launcher, however, that can fire Harpoon. Maybe (if the land-based Harpoon story is correct) it's in conjunction with a launcher like that? Best Scott. EDIT: Found it. It was Denmark https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Danish_Navy (Ctrl F and search for MOBA) Not sure if it's still operational so it may be irrelevant. Scott.

  21. I solder to the link wire underneath the turnout. I then countersink the hole through the board for the wire. This accommodates the solder joint without upsetting the correct laying of the turnout. I don't think I've ever ended up with one side isolated so that may be a different problem you've had. Best Scott.
  22. Does this help? https://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/#zoom=19&lat=53.95443&lon=-1.09936&layers=168&b=1 Best Scott.
  23. It's refreshing to see/hear a sound fitted model locomotive being driven properly with regard to throttle and coasting. Thanks for sharing. Best Scott.
  24. Apparently, one of them is a GCR Bogie Fish Van from Tiny Undeground Models: https://fb.watch/bEi0_2_YJ0/ Best Scott.
