  1. I've never seen/thought of doing platforms like that. I shall be watching with interest as my platforms are a similar length, albeit in N gauge. EDIT - Just realised this is N Gauge too. Even more reason to follow.
  2. Thanks! I didn't realise the Heysham train was so restricted. I'll see if I can work it in.
  3. There is an option; Either 4 days in 8 or 7 consecutive days, with the expected price differential. Thanks for the tips. Thanks. Already factored in, to coincide with the Ravenglass Railway.
  4. On a different (albeit potentially contentious) tack. Rather than struggle to find orders for the APT, have you considered going straight to the electric locomotives without stopping off at the APT? Presumably they would all be one chassis with different bodies (I realise that is simplified, but I'm sure you catch my drift) and I'm guessing different bogies. Do you think there would be enough support to launch these instead? You might find a bigger market of people prepared to buy 3 or 4 locos at £120-£150 than those prepared to pay £1000 for one train. Especially when the rolling stock to run behind them is already available. I know it's 5 sets of body tools, but I felt it worth throwing out there, and the APT would need, what, ten sets?
  5. I agree largely with the sentiment, but I think the full title is "Virgin Trains East Coast".......
  6. I took the concept and developed it to fit in with my train room space. It now bares practically no resemblance to the projected layout, but it does what I want it to. I imagine that Glasgow North replaces Buchanan Street, and Queen street remains open only for suburban and local traffic. Again, in N gauge:
  7. Another example, in a similar vein to Dundee Central, is Glasgow North, a proposal to rationalise Glasgow's railway stations: EDITED to add, details here: https://urbanglasgow.co.uk/glasgow-north-station-t1055.html
  8. Hi, It's probably a lot quicker/simple to do than explain, but I'll give it a go. I assume you're familiar with the basics of Anyrail.......... 1) Save a copy of the plan in the OP onto your computer. 2) In Anyrail draw a surface by right clicking anywhere on the screen and selecting "Add Surface". The size matters not, just draw a four sided shape. Once you've drawn four corners, right click to end the drawing. 3) Left click on one of the edges of your new box. The edge lines should go green. 4) Select "Load Image" from the toolbar at the top of the screen and then find and select the image you saved in step 1. Then click on "Adjust Outline". The image will then expand to be enclosed by the box. 5) The scale indicator on the image runs from 0-1,500ft. Work out what 1,500ft equates to in your chosen scale (in my case 1:148 so 1500/148 = 10.13ft. Convert that to inches = 121.56.) (In oo, that would be 1500/76 = 19.76. Convert to inches = 237.15.) 6) (sticking with n gauge calculations for the purposes of the exercise) Right click on the screen select "Add Ruler". Move one of the ends of this ruler until it is 121.56 inches long. 7) Left click on an edge of the box again. In the Width box on the toolbar change the figure until the ruler and 0-1,500ft indicator are the same length (make sure that "Maintain Aspect Ratio" is ticked.) This process is trial and error, so just persevere until the lengths match. You will need to keep pressing "Adjust outline" after each attempt to keep seeing the whole of the image. 8) Once the image is scaled using step 7, you can start laying track on top. The Anyrail grid should be visible. 9) Left click on the box again. You can change the opacity of the image to suit your needs by moving the slider on the toolbar below "Line Colour" and "Fill Colour". NOTE: This is not a foolproof method of scaling, mainly because it relies on the accuracy of the map/image and also its resolution, but it's within acceptable tolerance for me. I've drawn many track plans using old maps as a template. I hope that is of some help. If there's anything not clear, let me know.
  9. In Anyrail, if you go to the File tab and then select "Export" you can export/save it as a JPG or PDF and then upload it here.
  10. I like to draw track plans in Anyrail, it helps me relax in times of stress and anxiety, and so for your perusal, here is something I drew up in Code 55 N Gauge. The base dimensions are 17ft2in by 9ft9in. I scaled the scale ruler on the plan to draw the layout to 1/148. The geometry of the pointwork doesn't allow a faithful reproduction, and I've tweaked the curves a bit so it's more flowing, but it has the flavour I think.
  11. Great thread. After early dabbles with a Spectrum +2, then a ‘proper’ games console, in the Sega Mega Drive(I played Sensible soccer Until far far too late on fledgling work nights), I had my first encounter with Sony (PS1) and have been faithful ever since. Currently on PS4, and I have to say the Uncharted Series are my favourite games ever. Played multiple times on pS3 and now on second run through on the PS4. COD MW and MW2 were the best of times, but they are sadly lacking nowadays. I find I don’t have the reaction times anymore for online play. BF4 was decent and BF1 was refreshing, but just too short in single player. FIFA18 is in the drawer at present, but No Man’s Sky, Formula1 17, Star Wars Battlefront, hard Rain and Two Souls are on the rack. Oh and Sniper Elite 4. Oh and GTA V; that was a vast, entertaining and challenging game that I still haven’t done/seen all of, despite finishing it 3 or 4 times . I’m not sure how Rockstar top it, to be honest. But I know i’ll Always always come back to Uncharted (the train levels in Uncharted 2 and the ship graveyard levels in Uncharted 3 are graphically and challengingly the best gaming experiences I think i’ve had). Even the spin off was a decent, if short, effort.
  12. As a modeller of Central Scotland, this is bitterly disappointing
  13. Lifting nose...... Assuming you mean a manually lifting nose and not some servo operated solution, then I'd say yes that seems about right.
  14. I'd agree with that. Light bar, a la N Gauge Pendolino, would be my prefered option to try and keep costs manageable.
  15. Having decided on a few days off work in August I'm going to take advantage of the great value that Rail Rover tickets offer and make use of the Freedom of North West Rover ticket. I did something similar a couple of years ago with the North East version. The sleeper will deposit me at Preston in the wee small hour of 0433, and henceforth I shall have four full days to explore the routes and sights of North West England. Based on local knowledge of my learned RMWeb acquaintances, are there any "must dos" or "must goes" in the area? I intend to enjoy the S&C in it's entirety and a trip on the Ravenglass railway is planned for the final day, in concert with a loco hauled trip around the Cumbria coast. What else would folks recommend in the way of highlights? I'd like to spend at least an afternoon/morning photographing freight movements, so any pointers there? Many thanks Scotty PS. Illustration of the validity of the ticket here: http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/static/documents/promotions/Freedom_of_North_West.pdf
  16. This just goes from strength to strength. Thanks for the update, it really looks good with the background buildings.
  17. Of course, all of this is based on the assumption that it is the price and the vast choice of options that is the reason for disapointing orders. It may of course be that there just isn't the interest in an N Gauge Apt-P............
  18. I don't think there's a suggestion that you hold stock, I think we just order them at the same time as the baseline train. So, me I wan't 14 cars so I order the whole lot. Someone else wants 11 cars so orders the baseline plus one of the packs, someone else only wants 8 cars so orders the baseline only. That way you're still only building to order. Or have I got that wrong?..... I suppose, effectively, put like that you'd be offering three options, an 8-, an 11- and a 14-car train.
  19. That would seem plausible. Would it be better to substitute one of the Ms for a TS (for example), and put the second M in one of the additional packs? Might look a bit unbalanced having two Ms in an 8-car train.......... Baseline-DTS+TRSB+TF+M+TBF+TRSB+TS+DTS Add-on Pack 1-M+TF+TS Add-on Pack 2-TBF+TU+TU Just as a for instance, of the top of my head
  20. Hi Dave, as this is completely out of my era, I've nowhere to run such a machine, but I fancied one to stick on the wall in a scenic display case with OHLE, etc, if you catch my train of thought; with the added possibility of it being an investment should times become hard in the future. That being the case, I've never been interested in tilt (even if I was going to run it on a layout). However, the big appeal to me was the 14 car option, so I'm not sure I'd maintain the order if the set was reduced in that respect and I'd have to consider backing out. If it were a case of a baseline 5 car and we could add additional trailers and power vehicles to make the 14 set, that would be different. But i fit were 5-car or nothing, I'm afraid I'd probably take nothing.
  21. Nor attended enough "Gender Reveal" parties......
