  1. Yes thanks Phil, I'm in the same boat. I got my set today (for the record if anyone is counting, I applied by post and my copy is no 956. An incredible body of work. My only criticism is that some of the images, and their captions, are spread across two pages, and with quite a tight bind, it is to the detriment of the photos. It's also hard to read the text in some cases. That said, thankfully there aren't too many instances where this happens, and it's therefore not a reason to not buy the books. Volume two, particular, is of interest to me with a wealth of Glasgow-Aberdeen trains documented.
  2. This popped up on Flickr recently, although I'm sure I've seen the photo on Flickr before, or maybe a similar one by a different photographer. Hi-Res R0233 by Bill Wright, on Flickr I think it's a fascinating shot. Of particular interest to me are the two shed roads nearest the camera have been given over to the new diesels, complete with fuelling stations. Class 27, Class 26, Class 40 and what looks like maybe a class 24? Three A4s, an A2 and a Britannia included in the steam lineup. The bigger building in the background was the Engine workshops. The whole scene is now obliterated, with a Royal Mail depot and a Tesco on top. Best Scott
  3. Looks very good. Even more impressive considering it's your first railway. Can you give us some particulars? Scale/gauge, dimensions, control, etc. Thanks for sharing
  4. The only (slightly) negative I can see that jumps out is the longitudinal seam on the buffer housings. But I'm being pickier than picky I think with that (and it doesn't bother me).
  5. Wow! Hoping you can get the N Gauge versions to look like that......... (I'm sure you can/will). That said, it's going to be a shame to have to weather them up! Thanks for sharing.
  6. I've just found this. What an inspiration! Thank you for sharing Now following
  7. It would be an ideal "corner filler", wouldn't it? nls map here: https://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/#zoom=19&lat=51.4991&lon=-0.1908&layers=168&b=1
  8. That's an interesting zig zag arrangement, in green at Kensington, listed as a MR Coal Depot........What was the idea of that?
  9. Just FYI, and not being pedantic at all, but now AeroStandard rather than Vector.
  10. ]Hopefully no-one will mind if I add a couple of images to the thread. Both 15th August 2018, both Boat of Garten
  11. I got one (N gauge) and it said pretty much the same as the OO one, including the projected timeline (from memory - I can't find it now and suspect I have inadvertently deleted it......still searching)
  12. The ballasting and ground cover really transforms the layout. I think it looks really good, and you've captured the scottish ballast colour really well.
  13. What a thoroughly engaging thread, and a lovely layout. I may have the 009 bug. The Modular concept works really well here, and it's given me an idea perhaps for my father and I to build separate termini and be able to connect them when we get together at either of our houses. Thanks for sharing. The photos in particular are nice and bright and clear. Best Scott
  14. My experience with N gauge gradients, following much experimentation is that for a scale length train, 1 in 100 is more realistic. That is 12 Mk1s hauled by Class 47s, 45s, etc. So not a 66, but similar in wheel arrangement and weight. 1 in 50, especially in a helix, I think will cause you headaches. If you can reduce it closer to 1%, I would........ Best Scott
  15. What a lovely introduction. I find the research and planning stage is a large part of the enjoyment of any layout, so to have the enforced time to really do things properly is a boon. Good luck and keep us informed. Best Scott
  16. It's not the most obtrusive "button". One would have thought something more obvious would have been more appropriate. It took me a few back-and-fros to find it myself!
  17. At the very bottom of this page, in the pinkish/biege bit of the page, there is a clickable "Sign up now" : https://krmodels.co.uk/gt3-gas-turbine
  18. It's the Dapol Collector's Club. Exeter is only available from that source.
  19. In all honesty, I don't think that is cruel at all. Looks fine to me.
  20. I'm pretty sure it does, as I've read somewhere Dave quoting that the take-up from retailers in particular has been poor. I can't find that at the moment though......
  21. I've just thought of, or remembered in fact, Lauder in the Scottish Borders. This was a branch off of the Waverley Route (the junction was Fountainhall), and consisted of a single platform terminus and an intermediate station (which could be described more accurately as a halt). Goods traffic was largely agricultural/livestock, but there was also a govt. warehouse built there during WW2, specifically because of the railway and its location being "away from the bombs". It served as a food stockpile during the war and into the cold war. It was rail served from the station area. The Line closed to passengers in the 1930s I think, but soldiered on for goods (largely due to the ministry of food stockpile) until the 50s and the dwindling local good straffic. It's a lovely compact station which in latter BR days, was served by a single standard Class 2MT in steam. It reminds me of Methven as well in some ways. Anyway more details etc here: http://www.disused-stations.org.uk/l/lauder/
  22. Following discussion with the Society Treasurer, I can confirm that after 31/12/2018 the 'order book' will close. After that date, member's will not be able to order or reserve any model until the models have been received and the pre-orders distributed. After that, the models will be on general sale. Best Scott
  23. My understanding was that it was the same as happened for the Carflats, in that no further orders were taken until they were in stock and available for general sale. I will seek clarification on that.
  24. As a correction, the cut-off date for pre-ordering the Hunslet 0-6-0 shunter has been mis-printed in this issue of the journal. The correct cut-off date is 31 December 2018.
