  1. Wow! Just....wow!! Outstanding looking layout. Do you have a list of exhibitions I might be able to see the layout at?
  2. It would really depend on a number of variables: Era/Time Period Which particular branch How the permanent way was laid (distance between sleepers, etc.) Tightness of curves level crossings, guarded, unguarded, etc The list kind of goes on I would think. The speed limit may also be variable based on which engine or unit was being driven. All the above being teh case, can you give us some more information?
  3. We'll make a transition era BR(Sc) modeller out of you yet, Ben!
  4. The following Anyrail captures will illustrate things, I think. This is N gauge. The first image shows just the main line and the loop. I appreciate the spacing between the UP line and the loop, it's just a rough draft. The second image shows the loop in the context of the more of the layout. The line enters a tunnel in the top left hand corner, and then exits just as the twin track expands into a station approach. In pretend world, this tunnel will be around half - three quarters of a mile long. The purpose of the loop is to hold freight trains waiting for a path to traverse the station approach and onto the through lines, avoiding the terminus T
  5. I shouldn't think you'll be disappointed.
  6. Hi all, I'm looking for the following Farish Blue Riband Mk1s in Maroon: BSK x5 CK x4 RFO x1 RMB x1 SK x3 SO x1 Must be in good condition, but don't have to be boxed. Must be newer tooling with the engraved door panels and NEM pockets. Cash (Paypal preferred) waiting. Please PM if you can help.
  7. Maybe I'm over thinking things. is 1 in 125 considered an inclination of concern? I'm aware Beattock, for instance, has passing loops at its summit, but that is in the middle of some pretty severe gradients. My loop has a facing point for entry, rather than having to reverse, and the whole section of trackwork is controlled by a remote powerbox. I think I'll stick with it. Thanks for the replies.
  8. Okay, this may be a stupid question time. My layout plan includes a twin track mainline, with a passing loop/layby, to allow faster traffic to overtake slower freight trains, on the up side only. My plan has this section of track on an incline of 0.8%, i.e. 1 in 125, with the up line layby facing down hill. My question is, what is the situation with this prototypically? were laybys usually located on level ground or is it okay to have it on the incline? Thanks in anticipation. Best Scotty
  9. Outstanding work, and really showing N to its true potential. Thanks for posting the steps along the way.
  10. Well done on solving your fiddle yard conundrum. Sometimes that's all it takes, some time away from the problem, to reflect. Often the solution is nice and simple. Keep up the good work and thanks for posting. This is one of my favourite threads on RMWeb.
  11. Thank you both very much. I wasn't looking for the answer, just a nudge in the direction of where to find the answer, so thank you for answering so thoroughly. Best Scott
  12. Hi all, Can anyone point me to a resource or resources that can give me details of the configuration of the nose and cab ends of the 20s, i.e. discs, code box, etc., and any other differences. My modelling period is ostensibly 62-64, but may creep into 66 if I don't run Coronations at the same time. Thanks Scott
  13. Okay, I'll re-order the pre-TOPS version. I just didn't want the figures to be skewed with two orders.
  14. Hi Dave, Re the new split between pre-TOPS and TOPS vehicles, do we need to re-order? I previously ordered all 5 packs before there was a difference......
  15. I suspect what Bomag means is he can't "surf on over to Revolutiontrains....." and order another couple of 390s nor TEAs, since the order/purchase book is closed. I suspect what the press release meant was "surf on over to Revolutiontrains.co.uk and purchase another couple of models, from those still available to do so." If, however, I've picked up the wrong end of the stick, I apologise......and as you were.
  16. A few of Kyle that I have never seen, including a 24 inside the engine shed, and some lovely images of Dingwall, again that I had never seen.
  17. Yes, I have it as well. Very good images, and some unusual trains illustrated.
  18. Looking good so far. One question, however. With the arrangement of the fiddle yard "throat" won't it result in restrictive operating, in that it doesn't look like you will be able to have a train arriving whilst another departs, until the arrivee (is that a word?) is well on scene?
  19. Aside from the outstanding level of modelling, this image also shows an eye for a fantastic image. This is a photograph of an urban ladscape......with a train in it, and, if you happened to be an Ice Cream van enthusiast, it's an urban landscape with an Ice Cream van in it. You have a eye for a composition, sir. Keep it up and keep sharing, please.
  20. Completely agree. Coming down from Aberdeenshire is a pleasure, straight to the show from my local station, albeit subject to an enjoyable meander from Queen Street to Central through some wonderful Glasgow architecture; and if planned well enough in advance, quite a bit cheaper than driving and parking.
  21. In which case, my apologies. I read the OP to be the free guide was only with advanced tickets. The 30 min early entry then would appear to be the only incentive. Best Scotty
  22. If you envisage buying the guide book when you get there, and you like the idea of getting into the show 30 mins early, then the advance ticket does appear to be good value. If you do not intend to buy the guidebook, and the 30 mins early entry is of no interest then yes, the advance ticket would seem pointless. Fair point regarding the £1 'saving' being added again as a fee.
  23. I think this is a fantastic layout. What strikes me is that it is so minimalist; no clutter in the yard and the grass and track work is so "well kept". Lovely stuff, very inspirational.
