  1. When the wire is flattened the material undergoes work hardening, and thus becomes brittle. It can we annealed by heating it to cherry red, and then allowed to cool naturally. This will restore the material to the similar properties as it had before the flattering. Julie

  5. I think the problem is that your phone lacks a macro function. On a real camera this allows close-up photography. Julie
  6. Ingrow tunnel, is technically not a tunnel, it is a covered way! The difference is that it was built and then the road was built over it. It's like an extended bridge! Originally it was built because the mill owner beside the railway wanted to extend his mill over the railway, and it later incorporated the road. The grass and bushes over the entrance are a very recent addition. Other examples include the so called tunnels under the esplanade at Ryde, the tunnel and Kimble between Swindon and Stroud, build because the lord of the manor didn't want to see the engine smoke from the windows of his house. However in the 1960's his grandson was one of the campaigner to keep the line open. Recently the line has been re-doubled to enable it to carry the traffic freight and passenger between Swindon and the Midlands. Julie
  7. Where does the South Polden Light Railway go to? Julie
  8. Go for it! The reason for the failure was the ore ran out, on the companies land. The engine's were left under a bridge to rot, after all. Julie

  16. The more I examine the pictures of the backscene on Portwey, the more impressed I am. Julian has applied a very simple technique, but the way he has composed the final image is exquisit. The technique uses a series of images taken using a digital camera, and then uses them to create a photo montarge. He has taken great care in the composition to get the final result. The cutting out of the images is flawless and the degree of deph acheived is outstanding. And finally there is no visiable glue or smuging to detract from the final effect. Julie PS you have provided me with inspiration.
  17. I don't understand the reason for the two signals by the signal box? Julie
  18. You have to decide what functions, e.g. sound etc that you want. Only then can you choose a decoder. When you are new to DCC don't be temped to mix and match equipment from several manufacturers. Julie
  19. Slight problem, is the case is the largest that I have found that does not have to be specially ordered, from local suppliers. Julie EDIT spelling error
  20. Hi The reason that there has recently no progress on Trefeglwvs Road is that they layout was designed to fit into a wheeled case for easy transporting, e.g. to shows. The problem is that is doesn’t fit. I need to find a way to reduce the strait side dimension by 7mm. I think I have now decided how I am going to achieve it. Hopefully there will be a posting soon. Julie

  22. Nice to see someone modelling an HF Stephens branch, built for the LSWR to replace a 3' mineral line between Callington and Calstock Quay, via a rope worked incline. In the early years of the new line, there was a wagon lift, on the RHS of the Calstock viaduct, to maintain access to the Quay. Julie. P.S. The livery of the bubble car, is correct for the early diesel period on the line.

    Box Signal box

It would have been simply 'Box'. When the first power boxes were built, the words Power Box were added to signify the difference from normal, i.e. manual boxes. The exception to this was when there were more than one box, in a location. where Level Crossing, East or West etc or in the case of the LNWR boxes in the same area were numbered, for example Stafford Station No 3 Box. Hope this is useful. Julie EDIT punctuation error
