  1. I had better keep mine under lock and key if it is worth that much! A limited edition for Harburn Hobbies and Model Rail from 2010, but there were reputedly 510 made so not all that rare.
  2. A bricks and mortar model shop in Lancing, West Sussex, whose website I found on Google. After the disappointment with the Heljan Park Royal railbus from Olivia's, and their non existent after sales service, I was determined not to buy a replacement from Olivia's, but I had been unable to find the model I wanted anywhere else. I wanted the version with the Kilmarnock and Dalmellington destinations and all the other well known retailers were out of stock of this variant. As a result of a lengthy internet trawl, I found Morris Models who had one left in stock, at 10% discount on the original price. I asked if they would test it before dispatch in view of my previous one being a dud. The proprietor, Brian Jackson was happy to take it of its box for a test run and also verified that the directional lighting worked properly. He then sent it first class post later the same day. A great little runner. There was even a little cellophane bag included inside the box with a spare set of steps as these are delicate and easily broken. Excellent service and a retailer I would hope to buy from again.
  3. No offence taken, nor apology needed and you raise some valid points. In my case though, many of my Hornby-Dublo and Tri-ang locos are over fifty years old and might not take kindly to modern control equipment. I find the HM2000 a reasonable compromise which allows me to run some recent models alongside my classics.
  4. If that's the case then I will be cancelling my order. Nobody said anything about a coreless motor when I pre-ordered almost four years ago and I won't be going down the digital chip route ever, nor do I intend to go to the expense of a new controller to suit Bachmann's whims.
  5. Surely if a loco is advertised as analogue it ought to run smoothly on analogue. If a coreless motor would only work smoothly on digital then the analogue version of the model should be fitted with a traditional motor. I run 100% analogue on an HM2000. I once bought a Bachmann D11 digital loco because it was offered cheaper than the analogue version. I left the blanking plate in place and donated the chip to a fellow modeller who had gone digital. The D11 needed a lot of power before it would move, then it would suddenly race away at unrealistic speed. I assumed this was because it was designed for digital and I resold it fairly quickly. I would hate to think that the analogue 812 which I have ordered would suffer the same problems.
  6. Wow! That is some very realistic scrap loads which you have installed in those MDVs.
  7. "Money can't buy happiness, But you can buy model trains" says the seller.
  8. It lies far, far away, - at the end of the rainbow! All you need is a leprechaun with a shovel! If only I could find the glory hole where these Triang and Hornby roofs (rooves?) are hidden. I have long ago lost count of the number of topless Triang and Hornby vans which have arrived here roofless in eBay job lots and to which I fitted roofs (rooves?) made from perspex and secured with superglue. There must be a good market for 3d printed roofs (rooves?)
  9. Praise where it is due. Rails responded very quickly to my e-mail and put me in contact with Accurascale to arrange replacement couplings.
  10. Agreed. I recently sold a boxed Dapol ex Airfix Stanier coach from a 99p start at a disappointingly low price of 3.20 plus 3.20 postage. You win a few, you lose a few, and I had calculated the eBay fee would only be 0.47, based on 30p plus 80% reduction on 12.8% of the sale price, which would have bettered a one pound maximum fees offer. Unfortunately, my listing had inadvertently missed the deadline for the fee discount and eBay deducted 1.12 in fees, leaving me with net sale proceeds of just 2.08. I have bought some rolling stock on eBay this weekend so expect to be eligible for the one pound maximum fee offer but I won't be taking up the offer unless I decide to sell a higher value item.
  11. My M C Metals exclusives from Rails, now with scrap metal loads in polyurethane resin from Make Your Mark Models. The loads were designed to fit the Bachmann POA. Width wise they were an exact fit for the Accurascale wagons but the length needed to be chopped. The three offcuts should be sufficient to assemble a load for a 16t Mineral wagon but that will be a project for another day. Made a half hearted start at weathering one of the M C wagons but decided to leave that for now as although the black adhered OK, the rust kept wiping off. Meantime I need to chase up Rails about the corrected couplings.
  12. It weird - on the pc a search in the 20% discount box for Hornby brings up no results, on the mobile app 254. Bachmann is none on eiither, Heljan brings up 13 (no OO GW Railcar) on the app I am finding a few Black Friday promotions with this seller. https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/Model-Railroads-Trains/180250/m.html?item=313649522128&_ssn=hobbystoregroup&_sop=15&_pgn=4&_skc=180&rt=nc A few Hornby items coming up also:- https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/Model-Railroads-Trains/180250/m.html?item=313649522128&_ssn=hobbystoregroup&_sop=15&_from=R40&Brand=Hornby&_sac=1&_nkw=Hornby&_pgn=2&_skc=60&rt=nc
  13. When you list stuff nowadays eBay keeps pestering you to fill in more item specifics, including the unit volume, if you leave any of the fields blank. I have found the best answer is to check the box "Don't remind me about these item specifics again".
  14. I can't quite follow how that would work. Does this mean that if the seller declines your best offer then Paypal need to issue a refund?
  15. I have bought a few discontinued items from Olivia's which were unobtainable elsewhere. Always mail order and I have never been in their shop nor met the owner in person. If I was happy to pay the level of premium for the particular item that was my personal choice and the items always came quickly and well packed. Only disappointment was the total lack of acknowledgement when I notified them of the failure of the Heljan Railbus just a few days after it arrived. I would give Olivia's ten out of ten for sales service and zero out of ten for after-sales service. I may buy spare parts or wagons or coaches from them again but wouldn't buy any motorised items.
  16. I pre-ordered a BR black version and still looking forward to receiving it despite the inaccuracies. Though if I had known in February 2018 when I pre-ordered that I would still be waiting for the model almost four years later and after I had in the meantime retired, I would not have placed a pre-order, and would have waited till the model was released and then taken a decision based on the quality and availability of the model, and on my own available funds at the time. Due to the long lead times for production, and bearing in mind I am now 70, I no longer pre-order model trains. My only other pre-order still to be fulfilled is for Accurascale HYA/IIA wagons, paid for in full over a year ago, though I have since gone lukewarm on whether I still want those. Anyway, back on topic, the BR Black 812 will go nicely with my old Caley Jumbo 0-6-0 which I bought second hand around thirty years ago ready assembled from a DJH kit. Considering the Jumbo cost me 75 pounds back in the day, and inflation, the 812 represents fair value.
  17. Here's an enigma. Title describes it as a Dapol Class B Esso Tanker wagon kit. What I see in the photo is a cut and shut body from a Dapol Kitmaster wagon, mounted on a vintage diecast Triang frame with pre-1958 couplings. Scroll down and brand is shown as Triang. Scroll down further to description and it says:- "Wrenn Railways OO Gauge W5039 Turquoise Tank Wagon 3300 Esso." So is it Dapol or Triang or Wrenn? Can it be called a kit when it is already built? "Kit built" might be a better description. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/265110285012?hash=item3db9cdead4:g:794AAOSwwk5gZ6WK
  18. No problems with my Heljan diesel outline locos, 2 x 47s, 1 x 26, 1 x 17 and 1 x 128, some of which I have owned for a good few years now. However the Park Royal Railbus was a big diappointment. It suddenly stopped with a puff of smoke after only a few short runs up and down my small layout and first time I opened the H&M2000 up beyond half power. As the after sales srevice from both the retailer and from Heljan was non-existent I vowed never to buy any further motorised Heljan products.
  19. I'm into my fourth retiral. Age 53 I got a "golden handshake" early retirement from local government where I had been in overall charge of our local town hall. I went back to my profession as a self-employed and ironically my former employers were my best clients. Was approached by a local law practice but I declined to join them. Age 58 along came the recession and having done next year's budget I decided to wind up my business. At the same time the firm who had tried to recruit me two years earlier were now making redundant the three people they had successfully headhunted. So I decided to try a job which I might enjoy better, took a bus driver course and then a job with a local bus and coach operator. I retired from there when I turned 66. The Council transport manager had seen me driving buses and asked if I would like to go on their relief driver pool for the mobility buses, which went on to become almost a full time job. I quit when I reached age 70 in June of this year. I joined the local Men's Shed but have not been very frequently as I am the only one who chooses to wear a mask. Still trying to adjust to retirement. Filling some time buying broken old model trains on eBay, fixing them up and either keeping them or selling them on, but that can become an expensive hobby. I must have become one of Peters Spares best customers! The therapy which works best for me though is get out of the house and go for a walk. Since June of this year I have been to the summits of several local hills which I had never been up before. My wife is German. Each of us has a daughter from a previous marriage, hers in Germany and mine in Scotland. Sometimes we discuss the prospect of retiring to Germany. There are pros and cons to be weighed up.
  20. Never seen anything quite like it. I wonder if this weathering was inspired from a visit to a lime or cement works.
  21. My two pre-orders for Accurascale wagons were sent at the same time but in separate packaging. On receiving initial e-mail notifications of dispatches I was somewhat miffed that this entailed double postage charges, however I can have no complaint. Both boxes arrived together, individually wrapped in outer black polythene and therefore two absolutely clean brown cardboard boxes which I will be able to re-use for stuff which I am selling on eBay. Both boxes were much larger than their contents and the space was generously filled with bubble wrap and air bags, which will also come in very handy for re-use. Considering that Rails four pounds postage charge per item barely covers Royal Mail 48, the stout cardboard boxes, air bags and bubble wrap are all added value. Would probably have cost me a lot more to buy packaging of similar good quality for my eBay sales.
  22. My MC Metals and Jenny Kirk Rails Exclusive MDVs arrived while I was away on Saturday so this morning has been my first opportunity to unbox them, study the details under the magnifying glass, including checking that all the numbers on the solebar works plates match the numbers on the bodysides, then their first test run. All four wagons had the coupling hook on the reverse side as others have already discovered with theirs. I ran them with a Bachmann loco and brake van and took along for the ride a pair of Hornby MDVs with their big Railroad style couplings. No derailments or uncoupling problems on my short fiddle yard to branch terminus layout, including propelling successfully through the Peco Setrack second radius curved point.
  23. The item was delivered today and he left positive feedback. No trouble after all. Phew!
  24. Excellent service from AGR. Purchased a second hand Bachmann loco last week at a very fair price, arrived within 48 hours, very well packed, exactly as described and a good runner.
  25. Is it just me, or do others dislike being badgered to post immediately the auction ends and before being paid? I sold two Hornby wagons at lunchtime. Two minutes later I received a message "hi.can you post today..and can you pack well". I replied as soon as I had packed the items, described the packaging, and said I would post once I received notification of payment and order details from eBay as to where to send it, which would be today provided paid timeously. Another hour passed then I received two messages one from eBay saying "Paid post now" and an identically worded one from the buyer. Item is now posted, three hours after end of auction. I sent it second class because that was all he paid for. Much as I hate waiting weeks for people to send stuff, this is the other extreme. If he had said "please" or "I need it for someone's birthday" I wouldn't have minded.
