  1. I mean, changing scale does not mean you're forced to press the nuclear button. There are plenty of newcomers who would welcome something a bit more size/detail convenient, and there are some seasoned modellers who want more mainline but cannot increase the size of their house (pesty planning control won't let us expand our attics into the street. So what if cantilevered structures are a threat to public safety!)
  2. Think it's more of expanding the pie, rather than changing flavors. They still have a relatively large portfolio in OO... I'm not entirely sure where people (not you specifically) would sanely get the idea that Hornby would ditch it. Then again, perhaps this is some 4D chess move. After failing to win a OO gauge locomotive award again, Hornby have decided upon market dominance in TT, forcing Hornby Magazine, Model Rail and BRM to invent new categories...
  3. They would be difficult in terms of tooling and labour... for sure. But I think if any EMU that would have a chance at selling like hotcakes... it's a properly tooled Electrostar. Their modern-day dominance is too large to ignore.
  4. If they did... I've got quite a few ready for ebay listings xD
  5. Honestly seems like a win-win-win here. Especially considering cost-of-living crisis
  6. Yh, my safe bet is the Hornby New-Tool Black 5 with smoke effects
  7. Not a model suggestion, but imo, there should be a section on the website for retail/partner exclusive items aswell. Some offerings I never really find out they exist unless I trawl through that retailers specific website e.g Stobart 92.
  8. I'm sure with Accurascale in a few years time... they'll have to start making those foam inserts to directly fit into a Ford Transit :D
  9. I mean, I wasn't going to get either Rapido or Hornby anyway (not my kinda era). But my initial thoughts are. - 80% of the model looks pretty ok from a novice viewpoint tbh - No doubt the Rapido will probably win in the additional "20%" - Some clear seam lines and flashing from the Hornby model - Buffer detail seems cheap - Another duplicated model... and still no electrostar xD
  10. Ofc they would do this when my wallet is dried up for the month. Time to start battle-plans for Covent Garden.
  11. Not to sound conspiritorial... but I do think controversy is a main ingredient in his videos. Case in point when you go to review a £20 coca cola wagon... for no reason other than slate it. It's not indicative of the mindset of a hobbiest or a child who might like a fun toy. Not to say Hornby is a saint... but are metal v plastic wheels really something you want to forward to trading standards? Think you said it best... pinch of salt with these type of reviews.
  12. Who would have guessed that one of my first Accurascale orders... would be buffer stops xD We'll have to see how the electricity bills are this winter, otherwise perhaps we can manifest a 92 or 37 👀
  13. Fair enough then. Some points I hadn't considered/overlooked, so consider me humbled.
  14. Potentially? I'll admit to being naive as to how much that labour cost would factor into the final overheads for a product. I mean... the STVAs just won't. There are 2 variations for that wagon, so thats less tampo moulds/prints required than a typical locomotive, and most of the components don't even appear to be spray-painted (except for weathered versions) but make use of coloured plastic injection. No electronics so the only thing remaining large cost is parts assembly. This is the one I probably have the most confusion with, because the high markup and CC appear like 2 barriers to entry. It seems counterproductive to selling volumnes of this wagon when you can go on ebay and get the same wagon at an average of £50 - £70 (judging by the sold listings, that price hasn't inflated yet).
  15. I can respect other people opinions (waking up to the from the 6 or so notifications this morning xD). But "whinging armchair expert" is a bit much though no? Mr @TomScrut had a really nice counter argument.
  16. That makes no sense in context to the STVA. We're talking about wagons that have already been tooled, and have significantly less complexity/labour lines required than... lets say a Class 90 @ £180. Triple the original price. Labour cost is going to be a fraction of the final RRP, not the whole thing. Even with the excuse card of "expensive manufacturing", why then put up a barrier to sale in the form of a £30 Club Membership? There are many liberties I'm willing to take... but I think this is one of the few times Bachmann have out "Scrooge-McDuck'd" Hornby.
  17. Personally, I don't see the issue of duplicates. More options, and a retailer is just defending their market reach. Would much prefer to be in that situation than having a rarity of manufacturers. Part of the reason I'm starting to dislike more of Sam's Trains videos, who seems to relish more in mining at drama lately.
  18. Maybe some more 37s around the corner?
  19. For what it's worth, I recently DCC'd an older Hornby HST. First by replacing the ringfield with a CD motor kit. And then chipping the loco (I put an 8-pin harness so I have the option for sound in future. I think your conversion for the Saint will be fairly easy. Bit exactly an abundance of those locos that are RTR, so might be a fun little project ^_^
  20. 1) It's a rather low tender so I doubt it. You might find space but it would be best to put both in the front I should think 2) Highly unlikely 3) I haven't seen any. Although new Manors and Moguls are being produced if you want something similar.
  21. @Accurascale Fran Just noticed the standard Rawie Bufferstops were back in stop. Will there be further runs of the LED variants? (Apologies for the direct tag)
  22. Ooooooooooooooo. Today I learned :D
