  1. Anyway, doom and gloom aside... looking forward to whatever comes out of Warley tomorrow. Shame I won't be there on Saturday due to railstrikes :(
  2. I dunno about numbered. The only notable dominance lost for Hornby has been in the Diesel space (which they've arguably let go rather than lost). They still hold a pretty sizeable hold in the steam and modern emu spectrum. Realistically, whilst the likes of Cavalax/Accurascale/Rapido produce some fantastic quality stuff, they are only really challenging Hornby on 2-4 products each on average. Hardly a "Hornby is dead" situation. Also the fact that their retail grew, but lost a large amount suggests a higher expenditure. We'll see over the months where that money has gone to. I would also agree on Hornby's long-term market ambitions. What they did with the 9F was good. Loyalty schemes is good. TT expansion an excellent idea. Now they need a focus to tighten up their OO offerings and range back to how we were 2006-2009 with a "next-generation" consistency.
  3. Wouldn't say its the first for me : Btw I'm a neutral party in this, and only posted the above due to thread relevance. I don't own any DCC concepts products, nor do I have any use for ABC braking. My only really critique is that their product branding is overly confusing.
  4. Maybe in terms of rolling stock pairings, but it would still be all-new tooling. I guess world is the oyster with Accurascale since; a) They've shown they are not too afraid to muscle in on popular classes b) Most Diesel offerings would sell regardless. What I'm curious about is a few things; i) There's no EMU/DMU offering from Accurascale... yet. The selection of prototypes is wider... but so is the cost... as potentially seen with IRM Class 22000. They also seem harder to shift from shelves? (Free to comment, but looking at the shelves right now, it seems to be stocked with APT-Es/APT-Ps/ IETs and the newly released S-Stock... which doesn't seem to be shifting as quickly) ii) Despite some of the flack, Hornby do seem to be stepping up in the steam-department (new packaging/detailing/lights/smoke units now). How would Accurascale follow up the manor? iii) O gauge is looking a bit light... (even if it's not my area of expertise) iv) How long will it be before Accurascale clash with Hornby/Bachmann again? Class 08/Class 43/ Class 50 are hotcakes, with the 08/50s making a reasonable case for a NG model (new lighting/motorisation/sound etc). v) I also wonder if Accurascale ever considered more accessories or even controller units. Having a look at the state of affairs with DCC in US and Germany, our variety seems a bit poor. Only the other day I came across the proto-throttle. Whilst having a limiting interface, the concept seemed pretty cool. Or maybe even more scenery related items? (Buses/Buffers etc)
  5. I'm sure if Accurascale wanted to assist they would start producing OO gauge tractors... The technical spec would be "off the chain."
  6. Around Warley time give or take a few weeks. I believe they are currently en-route to Accurascale HQ.
  7. First Accurascale locomotive slipped into the basket. In the words of James May... "oh cock".
  8. I think the current contender might go to Big Bertha or The Fell
  9. If it's not an electrostar... there's nothing in it for me! An ES1 getting a model before a 377? Embarrassing ;D
  10. Considering the US branch already do this, it's more of a question if Bachmann develops their own piezo-induced water based smoke.
  11. Maybe but... that's just the reality of things... reactionary comments. But I'm sure some people will take a step back, take a deep breathe, and enjoy this new ride (however long or short).
  12. Fair enough. Heljan themselves did not say so.
  13. You'll have to be specific on that... Heljan or Hornby? I could quote what they thought of the competition and their predicted outcome. Regardless... it's irrelevant to the OP's statement. The point here is that people seem over-keen to side with Heljan/ see Hornby and TT:120 fail etc.... as a direct result of Hornby's move. It fails to account that so far, Hornby have injected the biggest market investment into the scale so far. In summary - Not a single person in this thread knows what the outcome of TT:120 will be in 5-10 years time. Everything stated is just wishful speculation - If TT:120 was to succeed, Hornby have objectively improved its odds - Discussion on TT:120 seems very contaminated with conflicting specialist modelers/enthusiasts. - Every scale and era has its enthusiasts, to the point where even the minorities are influencing the market (however small) (T-Scale has its own range, EM and P4 is now influencing Accurascale design choices). This thread would be more interesting to come back to in 3 years time and see how many people have adopted TT, and if there is anything creatively unlocked that we haven't seen before. @boxbrownie If I misunderstood your thread, lemme know. I do ramble on sometimes. haha
  14. Heljan had 2-3 locos, all in cad stage and most covered by Hornby already. Meanwhile Hornby have 23 confirmed locos coming (with a fair amount in early prototyping). There's many things I could knock Hornby for, but if we're being objective here... Hornby have significantly increased the probability of TT:120 being a success... moreso than Heljan can claim.
  15. Waiting for the scheduled broadcast on youtube to appear...
  16. It's "Due". 2020 and 2021 announcements occurred around the 3rd November.
  17. Wern't Rapido supposed to be doing this?
  18. Yh exactly. Although I would say that there are sharks in the water for that 50, I just wouldn't really expect it to come from Heljan... but they did do an O gauge version so who knows. The class 40 from Bachmann, I have no idea how old it is.
  19. Right, might aswell throw my chips in. Possibly : Class 71 & 84 Plausible but unlikely : Class 77 Unlikely : Class 40 & Class 50
  20. I went and tbh, I think it was worth it. You get 1:1 time with the loco that you normally would not get with train enthusiasts crowding on platform edges, or jumping lines.
  21. Just been to Kings Cross myself. Strange seeing TT in person, it didnt look too far off OO. Was nice to see Pullmans in the correct umber. Layout behind glass and non running.
  22. Co-Incidentally... 2579 is also the amount of times Hornby have milked the Flying Scotsman brand with different variations.
  23. Like the fact that they are making these variations.... but the specs and the price is highway robbery imo.
