  1. Not a critique, just interesting how much more cable-y the 66 is/was compared to the 92. Accurascale 66 ^ Hattons 66 ^ Accurascale Class 92 ^ Clear improvements and no doubt more revisions. Looking forward to seeing the full range of 66s.
  2. I know "Silent majority" and exaggerated social media posts are a common cliche these days, but I'm following in a Facebook thread with near 2000 members dedicated solely to TT. Already discussing the pros and cons... but by and large already embracing the new scale and underway on new layouts. And this is the problem with a 200 page thread with the same posters constantly arguing about the scale. There's alot of thoughts and perceptions we don't see. Very few people want to take things on with a holistic approach... and perceive indifference as threat. That's not exclusive to TT:120. Such common arguments such as : "Hornby shouldn't be making toys with 40 year old tooling" : Despite the fact that such 40-year old tooling might still be selling well for them and attracting them "Model railways need to be realistic" : Despite the fact that many people have different modelling criteria "TT 120 is too much of a niche to sell" : Despite the fact that similarly small niches are actively influencing market decisions e.g. EM/P4... OO9 I'm not going to sit here and outline every pro and con to the scale. TT:120 will get a rough ride initially, and I've seen bigger fish already try and mock it. But I think once people's creativity gets underway... once more stock is introduced... we'll start seeing concepts and layouts and collections never seen before. And eventually with time, people's reception will positively change.
  3. Going back to the Manors, other than the Siphon G, Accurascale themselves don't really have much GWR rolling stock, and they usually prefer to have pairings with their locos.

  5. Definitely resin... although there is additional cost beyond just the 3D printer itself. Elegoo Saturn = £300 Resin = £20-£30 (price has inflated since 2020) Nitrile gloves = £5 IPA = £10-£20 Tupperware as a wash basin = £5-10 Safety Specs = £5 Mask = £3-5 for a cheapo, £20 for something robust Resin filters = ??? Filament printers can also be fun and suitable for larger prints/prototyping... it really just depends on what you want to do.

  7. Tbh.... I really don't see all these negatives. Preordered a Dublo Bittern, LT Sentinel looks pretty enticing (maybe later in the year), and TTA BP wagons are on my radar. Triplex looks encouraging, but will need a significant level of openness to entice me (3rd party sound profiles). And there's wiggle room for the 2mt/Black five to potentially appear this year. So I'm pretty content, and I also have the Accurascale 37 and the Heljan 86/2 to look forward to (maybe a Accura 50 and Cavalax 56 if the budget allows). If I was working for Hornby though... I would want to get a grip on the following: 1) 8F is now officially "at risk" from being picked up. Same with alot of their past outline locos (08 and 60 seem like the most likely Diesel classes... Saint class maybe?) 2) The website is the only real sour point for me... it's an absolute mess. Hard to find items, lack of categories, manual navigation is non-intuitive. Going onto a website like Marklin or Scaletrains is worlds ahead 3) I don't really care much about old tooling or odd loco-pack pairs... but Hornby do need to put more effort into segmentation. Again... on the website... if I go onto the locomotives section.... I'm seeing a mix of TT:120, Railroad, Mainline and Dublo stoked onto one page. The result is the feeling of common semantic... and I suspect the source of alot of arguments here "Why are they pumping out 20 year old tooling? Prices are too expensive. Nothing here for me. Hornby care only about toys!" etc.
  8. Bit of both actually. Take lightbulbs as an example, which were initially designed to have a shorter operational lifespan than technology was capable of (See Phoebus Cartel, and how that shaped the industry to today). Same with batteries to some extent, the current supply/demand model is perfectly profitable. But yes, you are correct... and I doubt we'll see RC batteries in OO gauge any time soon. You could do it with permanent coupling, but no-one will want to make that concession. In addition... who realistically wants to add ANOTHER level of maintenance to their hobby, when the current system works well as a direct feed. The RnD and cost for OO batteries... I think the negatives would outweigh the benefits quite quickly.
  9. I heard an argument questioning Hornby's return-on-investment. Bare in mind, there was a Q&A by Simon Kohler about 2 years ago. In this video, he was asked about any models he regretted not producing due to other manufacturers. One of the answers he gave certainly alluded that Hornby had Pursued the DP1 as early as 2014, possibly earlier. The un-named project had just finished the drawing/design stage before it was canned. So it could be possible that actually... 10 years later... this would be an opportune moment to re-coup on those design costs.
  10. Has a lot of potential... but there are a few pitfalls Hornby need to watch out for. Traditionally, when Hornby have introduced a new "technological" range... it doesn't last all too long :D Or at the very least, does not have the same industry-wide adoption that Hornby should be targeting in order to make their systems seem superior - To make this truly competitive, custom 3rd party profiles uploads needs to be included. Immediately, this is going to be a problem as (in particular) Apple need to check and authorize each update or revision being sent to the phone. Without 3rd party sounds, then the sound system is going to be very holistic to alot of Hornbys own range, instead of enticing conversion from other manufacturers. You have here... what could be considered a serious alternative to the Loksound/Zimo for budget modelers. - This time... don't blink. HM7000 should be the final evolution of an adaptable digital framework, and needs to be stable for the next 10 years - Hornby should start to consider a Select/Elite replacement. Tactability is still key for a lot of older modelers, and more of the tech savvy modelers will want a system that is a bit more adaptable... and not something that needs to be sent in to Hornby for an update. - Make a 4-pin... or update your models Should be very interesting to see this system in action, and how well it plays ball with existing DCC systems.

  12. Very bare indeed. And I think the S-Stock re-release is going to dissuader RTR manufacturers more... not less. London Underground is a niche market, and also in the most expensive end for train-sets (EMUs). Although Bachmann did back themselves into a hole by making the S-Stock exclusive to LTM. Beyond the mainline engines that crossover onto the London Underground (Class 20s, 66s)... there really isn't that much unique tube stock out there.
  13. There's a few Metromodel chassis prints up there, but none really to do whole bodies or sets. Right now... the only place one can get into London Underground scratchbuilds is via CMAC and his custom resin prints on ebay.

  18. Could be weathering, but there are a few different shades of EWS out there. I remember seeing a video of 92001 hauling an EWS 66, and the colour offset was very noticable. You can even see it here with the 67 off to the right
  19. Eh not quite. Looks like a plastic rod that has either lost glue or physically sheared from its molded counterpart # Basically means that one side is slightly loose. But not that much of a bother, can just glue it back
  20. Well well well... look who showed up this morning... First Accurascale locomotive... must say I'm mighty impressed! + The finish on 92001 was much better than the fuzziness on the painted samples + Love the packaging + Smooth runner on DC + Detail is just nuts on this thing Few negatives - Seems like a few things broke in transit. Front NEM coupling (easily fixed back on, must've knocked loose). But one of the pantograph heads was a loose fit, so I'll have to get the ol' glue out - Visible boards through the grills - Would've personally preferred the polo-mints flat. I could probably 3D print my own. Overall... very impressed :) Will have to DCC up later with accurathrash and legomanbiffa. Won't be making the same mistake for the class 37 xD
