  1. Try the Triang Dock shunter, Transcontinental diesels as well. Cheaper and more common than the 81 wheel sets.
  2. You could try grinding them down with a Dremel tool. I did all mine and the results are pictured after polishing with wet-n-dry. (Left, before, right, after.)
  3. We do a lot of this. You have the right qualifications. Join the railway!

    EBay madness

I refer my learned colleague to "Rule1" !
  5. Isn't it great to get some modelling done in one evening. No pressure and something to show for your efforts! And, a Spitfire too. Still building morale wether watching, hearing or building!
  6. Eastsouth-Worknet! or...Tsaehtuos-Krowten. (Supreme leader of the twerking-from-home.) It's late...
  7. Finally got round to finishing my Airfix/Lima, Rail-bus that has been off and on for at least a year, and then the sun came out so...
  8. It's £50 for a new Hornby 0.4.0., so I know what I would spend my money on, and get a couple of reefers with the change!
  9. My grandad was a lollipop man who was arrested for "losing" his equipment. He denied everything but, when they searched his house, all the signs were there.
  10. You can pick up a perfectly usable Bow pen in any art shop for £1.86. It's plastic with bare minimum metal tip but is fully adjustable and easy to use. That's what i started with and never looked back.
  11. I wonder if he has a glass house....?
  12. A simple idea. Substitute pad for i-pad!
  13. Governments want overpopulation so the jobs market has 100+ people chasing each vacancy. This is leading us towards the gig economy, where the lowest bidder gets the job. More money for the rich, less for the poor. Unions can only hold the tide back if more people join, that's why the Governments try to demonise them. Economic migrants will eventually find this out, to their long term cost, and, to survive may have to move on again. Everybody, anywhere, has to make a living somehow. The trick is knowing when your being had over. There is PLENTY of money out there, it's just in the wrong pockets... When people ask me why I'm paid so much I retort, why are YOU paid so little... Further education, university, degrees and letters after your name count for nought if the bloke/girl behind you is cheaper. The lower birth rate is related directly to economics. If you cannot afford a child, sensibly you don't have one. If you still go ahead, the welfare system will only go so far. Not many people seem or can, also, be able to save for their future, which is a disaster in the making and a lot are going to have a shock when, or if, they reach retirement age and think the government of the day will look after them. "Make your own luck" is one of my mottos!
  14. If your on a budget, or your hand isn't too steady, try red and white electrical tape, cut into thin strips and apply. I find the more you handle it the harder it sticks over time. Or, paint sellotape, stuck on a mirror/tile/plate, whatever colour you desire and then cut with a steel rule and scalpel into the thickness you need, e.g. 3mm orange with a 1mm black overlaid in the centre for BR green lining. I can't take credit, I saw it in an old MRC, and it does look okay. The "cast no. plates" on my "Long boiler" are just painted plasticard with hand painted numbers. Cheapo is the way to go!
  15. Check out the American HO F unit diesels. You can find them cheap. Got a whole CN train, in HO, on your favourite auction site, for sub £15.
  16. It sort of has the look of an Argentinian Ferrocarrill Buenos Aires al Pacifico BAP 4-6-4T. Once you have the tanks on!
  17. Did mine a few years ago . I added the missing middle wheels on the tender as dummys, because the motor is in the way.
  18. I put Princess wheels on a "Desmond" chassis for my Metropolitan no.1, 4 4.0. Had to grind a couple of notches in the motor housing to clear the flanges but they worked well and because the wheels are solid you can use the original pick-ups without modification!
  19. Run it under the hot tap for a minute, straighten, and then under the cold. Works on Lima Crab chassis too....
