Think of the money you've saved!

  2. Question: When was the last time a manufacturer surprised us with a new model... announced and available on the same day?

I think we're moving towards manufacturers trying to sell out their products before they're even produced. Holding stock is expensive and cash draining.

I wouldn't count on any surprise announcements ever again tbh.

  3. I for one would like an extended deadline or shop stock as I haven't had the money in the right place at the right time and would actually really like one.

All the best. Hope it goes well.

  5. Wrong size, wrong region, right era. Tell me why I want it! Quite honestly I would love it from my heart but like you I enjoy building over playing. I wish you luck with the sale, if I had more disposable money at the mo it might have nudged me over to 4mm! The thought of building its extension tempts me somewhat...

  9. Just thinking about my 'little' layouts and would I coundier them 'micro' Apa Park - Yes - single Ikea box Apa Park by Steve Purves, on Flickr Apagele - Maybe - double Ikea box Apagele Finished by Steve Purves, on Flickr Airedale - Yes - 3ft square lid from a wooden crate Test track by Steve Purves, on Flickr Alpha Street goods - Yes - 2ft 6 by 3ft lid from a wooden crate Alpha Street Goods. by Steve Purves, on Flickr Essence of New Street - Maybe - Modular using 3ft boxes Ballasting and track weathering by Steve Purves, on Flickr I think the 'micro' definition is a state of mind rather than a physical state. I design all of my layouts using the same 'micro' mentality and generally have the same reaction regardless of actual size...
  10. is going to go and spend the afternoon sat behind a Crompton

  11. I have a swallow HST bookset on preorder I am in two minds to cancel because I don't want to be stuffed by the wrong colour. If they have cocked this up whats to say they haven't cocked up the others. Things like the grilles on the 56 i can overlook, because to me, its still a 56 underneath. mismatched colours within a train, sorry, as a colourist in the plastics industry thats a big no from me Dapol
  12. Nice looking unit that Pete, looks like a tight squeeze! Still resisting the 3rd rail urge...
  13. Has started another layout in the boxfile section! Is there such thing as 'serial layout building'?

  14. The nice thing about the 550d is it shoots HD video... 7822 Foxcote Manor at the Llangollen Railway:
  15. I'm not a massive camera addict but I do rave about the Canon 550d, good mid range camera to be had for aorund £250 if keen. I sold mine to fund some trains of some description but used it to take most of the photo's on my flickr account pre Apa Park. Since then I have relied on the camera on my phone!
  16. That was quick, must go out and get a copy! I find it strangely satisfying reading about layouts I know in the magazines, even though I have followed the build from day 1!
  17. Hi Pete, Just caught up with the thread, I like the new idea, as you know I am a fan of urban 'dinge'. I'm not surprised 4mm won out on this occasion, after the results you had with Noth Street, more power to your elbow! Keep that 2mm urge under control and we will look forward to another classic layout with the new one. Do post details on here when you start proper as I will be watching with interest. (as an aside I'm personally doing well to resist that reasonably priced Farish 4CEP in the classified section...)
  18. Has been told he has to go to Mexico for 8 or 9 days on business... I'm gonna have to get some kits bought!

  19. That I know the location of... Yours, Glenfinnan - circular boards Mine, New Street, N Gauge - Square boxes Saltley, N gauge - end to end box Northport, N gauge - end to end Lite baseboards Holme Hale, 4mm - End to end Box I know of about half a dozen people waiting for the boxes I have used to be commercially available so they can start building too!
  20. I wondered where the curved boards were going to end up... We will end up having to have a 'Tim Horn Rally' at this rate! Looking good, will follow progress on this!
  21. Should the thread title be ammended now kickstarter has been and passed?
  22. Has run the first trains on the new layout tonight... properly chuffed! see 'essence of new street' thread for vids!
