  1. Whatever colour it is, it has to be one of the prettiest applied to this T9, It would be more appropriate if vintage locos such as this were painted in their original plumage as opposed to the BR black inflicted upon them in their old age. Brian
  2. Looking toward Tiverton from the bridge.! Your model photo is virtually like the one I have seen in a picture from a book on the subject. Well done! Brian.
  3. Beware Mike, it may be a mocking bird but at least its not April Fools Day! However, any titbit like this is fair game and it always hooks me but over the course of this thread, those much more knowledgeable than I have indicated that it has drawbacks which are well known. But that does not mean it can't be done providing the will and the money are forthcoming. If indeed the passengers were from the government, then perhaps there is credibility to the bird's tale. Brian.
  4. Who thinks of some of these names and what happened to the glorious names of the past? At this rate the next batch could be called MacDonald's or Burger King!! Brian.
  5. Where are we not? A lot of the world seems to be covered! Brian.
  6. Gotta congratulate you on the sun dappled sea - great effect! Brian.
  7. To keep this thread going - Thomas on the milk train. Brian.
  8. Must try and keep the momentum going for tinplate trains. We can't be all rivet counters! Brian.
  9. Is there a better station in Cornwall than Par? Lostwithiel maybe but its lost a lot of infrastructure. St Erth is nice but PZ is a bit too business like. Par on the other hand is still loaded with signals, sidings, structures and points with SBZ just up the road. Brian.
  10. Sometime I think the C of T was written off a bit too soon for operation. She' s probably no worse off than the current money pit, the grounded Scotsman. But then , I'm partial to early GW locos! Brian.
  11. Welcome back Penhayle Bay - now where's that vacuum cleaner? First time I've had a real look at your fine layout even under these circumstances. I was intrigued by the use of a vacuum; the only time I tried it was a disaster sucking up what I thought was secure enough. Haven't done it since and the dust of ages has settled but hey, when did you last see a clean railway! Brian.
  12. WADR, the reduction in fatalities is possibly due more to the much maligned H & S rather than the colour on the front of an engine. Instead of blowing a horn as of old, there is probably better communication; radios, mobiles and contact with signallers, etc, that have contributed to this decrease in accidents. Perhaps someone in the know may sort this one out? Brian
  13. A pity they ever thought of yellow panels at all; spoiled a lot of colour schemes. Red buffer beam's worked fine for years! Brian.
  14. Glad someone else has bad days! My trains run faultlessly most of the time but let somebody come and want to see them running, then you get the derailments, wrongly set points and unwanted uncoupling. Or after spending hours repairing a loco only to put it back on the track and find out something else is wrong!
  15. Great pictures of a fine layout. Not sure how the AA and RAC approved Johnsons though! Brian.
  16. Different! Never heard of that but whatever works - thanks. Brian.
  17. Lovely layout, first time I've come across it! Could any of you tree gents tell me how you keep the trees 'clean'? Or at least free from dust and spiders, etc! Brian
  18. Ah, saffron cake; how I miss that! There used to be a source in Truro that would mail it over but when the PO put the mailing up, they were so heavy it was prohibitive. Lovely picture though! Brian.
