  1. Same lane, same time and a bit before! Its all paved over now instead of the rocky road and even rockier ledge to stand on. Saw the same thing at Friary, WC and headboard leaving for all points east; late forties and another time a bit later. At the time, I was unaware of the significance of the ACE but the headboard stood out. Sometimes I thought a T9 did the honours as they seemed to be the preferred passenger engine. Brian.
  2. Jenny Agutter must be the RM pin up by the number of times she is mentioned irrespective of subject! Brian.
  3. The actual 'location' with the most concentration of traffic, rolling stock possibly would be Laira yard by the Embankment. Transfer goods traffic from Tavvy Junction, Friary and Devonport would mostly be assembled there along with freight off the docks and branches. Add to that the proximity of Laira shed and carriage sidings meant there was always a lot of action. Long distance goods seemed to be attended to at Tavistock Junction. Then there was the Lee Moor railway, not much action but added to the interest. Brian.

  5. Hi Waragah (that doesn't sound like a Plymouth name), As one far removed from Plymouth also, these forums have certainly been an asset to keep up with UK modelling and the South West in general usually with great pictures. Hope you find it as useful as I do. Brian.

  7. David, it is indeed Lionel, a working signal activated by a passing train. As you may notice, I have a mixture of American trains and Hornby; possibly a bit unusual but that is one of the joys of toy trains. Nobody gets bothered about it. The village is a series taken from A Christmas Carol with various shops from the tale represented. Part of my wife's collection but fits well in the only space on the layout that was suitable. Brian.
  8. Christmas comes to the layout. The tree is up by the church with the skaters and Father Christmas is about to descend the chimney. Merry Christmas Brian.
  9. Thanks for the pictures. I was afraid S. Brent was under closure and was awaiting the orange army to appear. Better watch out for the signal box! Brian.
  10. Has anyone outside the UK actually tried these sites and do they work? Are they easy to use or are they just empty promises like some other 'get around things' sites that cost an arm and a leg? Brian.

  12. Saw that in a forum. The Everett slide has slid already due to all the rain adding to Amtrak problems. That needs to be fixed permanently. Brian.
  13. We haven't been back fir a while now, Phil, but there are some interesting pictures on You Tube from a car driving all around downtown. You'd never recognise it now. Talking of Ocean Sidings, there was always a hulk just off shore stuck in the mud ever since I can remember. Its remains are still visible! Brian.
  14. Good looking engine shed but a lot I've seen of this size look as thought they didn't survive the blitz! Brian.
  15. Although checking the BBC on the internet, to be fair there doesn't appear to be much difference between the UK and US these days! Brian.
  16. Consider yourself fortunate. We had deer, raccoons, rabbits, even bears. These have been evicted by over development and they have all left for greener pastures. Can't say I blame them! Brian.
  17. I never figured out which was SR or GW although now the SR is no more. That would make it easier! Plymouth sure lost a lot of railway infrastructure, especially SR sadly. When I was young (very young!), the railway bug first bit while waiting for the Tavvy Flyer at Mutley station. Brian.
  18. You have to admit, those GW Singles were the most elegant locomotives of the era. Now that would be a real newbuild! Brian.
  19. Nice nostalgic pictures, Phil! Always was envious of Exeter eastwards as there were Merchant Navys' and King Arthurs to be had; exotica, compared to the Plymouth area. But a Devon General bus ride to Exeter and Exmouth Junction helped to cure that. 72A was the only shed we ever had a permit for! Brian.
  20. What about tenders; large or small? I always thought they looked better with the bigger tenders for such a large loco. Brian.
