  1. Just came across this layout. Lovely effort, especially to see pregrouping locos and rolling stock. A pity there are not more with this theme instead of the usual Big 4 and the bland BR eras. Brian.
  2. This is an ACE Commemoration Series which was offered at a very good price probably as a promotional piece. Like most modern tinplate, it runs on DCV which means a changeover from Lionel and Hornby trains. Surprisingly it runs on Lionel 31" diam. track! Brian.
  3. Keep it flying indeed! I always feel that we are preaching to the choir and the congregation isn't interested. Brian
  4. Hi Craig, first time I've found your modelling; excellent job, as good as your pictures! Brian.
  5. Oh for a dashboard like this on todays cars! Our new Acura TL has a 'control centre, full of useless buttons that have to be pressed if one wants useless information. All of this hides the speedo and rev counter, etc, while the useless information, if you wanted to read it, is virtually hidden. All this because of the tech generation which must be included on new cars. More buttons are added to the steering wheel which has become a control centre of its own and paddles have been added which tend to get in the way. Why on an automatic is beyond me! Nice car though! Brian.
  6. As most of my time was photographing trains in the West of England, the electrified North with all the overhead catenary is a definite put off. Especially nowadays with all the steam excursions that are run beneath it all. Sadly it is beginning to creep even further west, hopefully not beyond Bristol. Brian.
  7. Lovely layout. I found it rather difficult in my OO days to achieve anything like this over here. Local model shops didn't carry much that was suitable which resulted in delays getting supplies from the UK which included the ever increasing postage. I have since changed layouts but still get great pleasure from seeing layouts such as yours which offer more than the basic terminus. Brian.
  8. Hate to be a critic of something I could never achieve, but shouldn't there be more horizon t'wixt sunset and subject? Brian.
  9. It appears that Australia and presumably New Zealand have a reasonable train group with an affinity to the UK. Whether expat or native this adds up to a substantial number as evidenced by Hornby and Peco findings. There is not a lot of UK expats who are fond of trains in this country and the locals have very little interest in other than US trains. Therefore like you, all of our purchases come from the UK or from E Bay. During my N and OO days, it was a problem incurring many delays which was frustrating. Fortunately we are spared the import and duty fees that you suffer from, which eases the situation. Holidays back home often resulted in heavy carry ons for the return trip! Brian.
  10. At last! Each time we've been on the DFR, this has bothered me so its good to see a reconnection in the offing. Next time it should be done and I can relax! Brian.
  11. Its nice that you have visitors who appreciate your work especially as you model UK prototype. The locals here have very little interest in anything other than US trains. Brian.
  12. Cornwall will never be the same to me again! Brian.
  13. Check with the CRS, they recently had a field trip to Yelverton station. Most interesting especially if known to those in its prime. Brian.
  14. [ And what a pleasant afternoon, hardly any breeze, lovely warm sun, calm seas "Calm Sea and Prosperous Voyage"! Brian.
  15. From old photos any telephone poles appear to be on the up side which would add to the embankment already in place. I suppose those lovely Victorian lamp posts are out of the time zone. The 'paint'ed picture seems the way to go as it really enhances your excellent layout. Brian.
  16. And I thought the poor thing was dead! Like the stone ring, now you need a dolmen somewhere! Brian.
  17. Its good for a laugh but when you consider what's acceptable today, it was quite respectable. Brian.
  18. And as a slight aside, my shunter tonight, paul, has sent me some pics to post of a little job he and 'my man in the south west' worked the other week to St Ives, a few cracking pics, loving the one looking down onto the station Driver asks "are you sure this is right?" Brian.
  19. Reading all this makes me think how young most are or perhaps how old I am; I don't think I am but I never spotted anything but steam engines unless you include the GW Gas Turbine! Otherwise, most things were mostly the same, school uniforms, pasties and Corona with the complicated bottle cap. Looking back, in a lot of ways I was fortunate to be able to see older GW steam engines working, Bulldogs, Saints, Stars, etc, even a Dean Goods that worked its way to Laira once or twice. Luckily the school sports field abutted the main line at Tavvy Junction and one could combine business with pleasure; I was never any good at sports anyway. Another bonus was that it was shared by a local girls high school whose green sports pants are remembered to this day! This contributed to another stage of life's evolution but the interest in trains has lingered to this day. Brian.
