Well, that's the laptop finished. The HDD has expired. It was Windows 7. I will not get a Windows 10 replacement. I'll use my mobile devices instead.

The 16.25 from Scarborough to Hull and Sheffield has been cancelled owing to hitting someone just south of Beverley station. I won't get home until late, but fully understand the situation. I just hope that whoever it is recovers in hospital. I wish them well.

The Met Office website has been updated. Not sure what to make of it.

Today I was informed that fares on Northern are not yet going up owing to a mistake. Make of that what you will.

57 minutes late from Leeds on the late running 16.38 to Hull. No driver and a fatality at Selby were the reasons given. I don't know when or if I will get to Beverley!

Just read this about the state of our national rail network on the BBC http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-37835087

Just seen Leander departing Scarborough on a special to Castleford. Most spectacular sight as it departed into the setting sun.

16.25 Scarborough to Hull delayed by 21 minutes. A vehicle hit a bridge at Bridlington. It is the second time in three months that has happened!

Arriva are going to be prosecuting people for fare dodging whether they have made every effort to purchase a ticket prior to travelling or not. If the ticket office is closed, and the ticket machine on the platform is not working, then it will be a case of either a fine or jail. We all should purchase our tickets prior to travelling, but if we genuinely cannot, then surely other ways should be found other than prosecution.

Not true. There either has to be "intent to avoid payment" (Railways Act offence) or an intent to travel without a ticket where facilities existed to buy one before travel (Byelaw offence). If the booking office is shut and the machine isn't working there were no facilities so you don't get prosecuted, it's the first thing they check. If you couldn't be bothered queuing or didn't get there early enough then there were facilities, you just chose not to use them so y...

I amona train from York to Hull. We crossed over the ECML at Hambleton at 4.29 PM, and to the immediate south I saw what I think was a Freightliner which had come into some kind of difficulty. No mention on National Rails website about any service disruptions. I feel a bit baffled!

Not one word or signage so far from Arriva - who have taken on the franchise from Northern.

The last day for Northern Rail is nearly over. No wreaths to be seen on the fronts of trains or detonators exploding - just The End.
