I think in general the status update facility is a little but odd.

It sits by the side of the threads, only shows the 4 most recent and is misunderstood by a lot of people.

Not sure what it's true purpose is, it feels like it was added by the software developers in a FaceBook moment but the forum works off threads and there is seemingly no relationship between threads and statuses.

Then a few people use it to announce themselves, or ask a question whereas it is more suited to a jokey comment abouts oneself because it will be gone in a couple of days. 

Mostly it looks like it is confused with the PM feature which is quite hidden and what we end up with is inadvertant messages between members that we jokingly join in on just to remind the parties that we can see the message.

IF I PM someone I always panic and check here to see if its gone astray...

The Status Update panel itself is a quirky little feature that allows the members to unburden their souls, have a bit of a joke, remind everyone that there are White Rabbits about and so on.  That its ephemeral is a tick in its favour✔️

Apart from that, its fun to pry into others messages which they inadvertently post here instead of keeping their worries private!
