  1. The rust on those wagons looks superb Rob! I'm assuming you put more than you need on then remove some with the fibreglass brush?
  2. @jbqfc What plants do you have in your pond John?
  3. Had a go at a 16t Coal wagon using your method of using powders over a Matt varnish coat. I was aiming for a wagon that hasn't been in service too long. I could still do a bit more work and I've only done one side at the moment. For the other side I'd like to add some more rust patches but not sure how to add them using powders alone.
  4. That looks fantastic John! 🙂
  5. Love those Sea Urchins, they look fantastic. Looking forward to seeing the OBA's. 👍
  6. I like your pond @BR traction instructor how deep is it? I'm thinking about building a small container pond.
  7. Love to be able to get to this, I haven't been to Showcase for a long while now. A big, good luck to all involved and visiting. Enjoy!
  8. Great work there Phil, I like the use of a grey wash, sometimes the darker ones don't scale too well and look too stark. I came across an oil paint called Starship Filth, which is a dirty grey colour which makes a good wash. Steve.
  9. Thanks Rob, the "put it down for a day or so " is very good advice, which I will have to practice!
  10. Guess a question I would have related to my photo would be, if you think you've gone too far with the pigments, is it a matter of adding a lighter colour to bring it back or gently removing using the glass fibre brush?
  11. Ta Rob, very much appreciated. I started to follow the steps for wooden bodied wagons on the end of this van, I've only used one colour so far but started to get a bit heavy handed, so I stopped for a bit.
  12. Hi Rob, I've been looking through your thread for a method of weathering a 16t Coal Wagon, I've prepared mine with a light coating of Matt varnish and want to follow your method of using powders. By any chance do you know where it was in your thread, that's indeed if you did a 'how to' I've found one for a Planked wagon.
  13. Love the dogs! I couldn't resist getting a couple, got to paint one to look like our black Greyhound, pity they didn't make one lying down! 🙂
  14. Started on some vans, the first one just using an airbrush, Railmatch Frame Dirt and Lifecolour Liquid pigments. Needs a bit of refinement and I may have gone a bit ott but I have seen pictures of absolutely filthy vans.
  15. Thanks for re posting the photos. There's some nice shots and they all bring back memories of the places I've visited. 🙂
  16. I'm afraid the Class 31 has remained on the bench for a while as I've got to start weathering some rolling stock and preparing my layout for a forthcoming (September!) show. I made a start on a Bachmann 16ton Mineral Wagon using MIG Olibrushers and inspiration from a Gauge O Guild video from Neil Podbury. I wanted to portray a mineral wagon that hasn't been in service too long and not yet turned into a rustbucket! I'm building up to having a go at a loco. Next up will be some 12ton vans.
  17. Fantastic! I love the Tiger Moths, we get Jerseys here and I think this might be a caterpillar of one. I hope so as I came across 2 and it would mean my Dead nettles and Ivy etc are doing there thing.
  18. Thanks James, I did wonder that, glad you could confirm it for me. 🙂
  19. @James Makin Not sure if this has been mentioned before as you put various layers of paint on, do you have any trouble with the weathering sticking to the factory finish? I'm trying some weathering with oil paints and whilst the effects are great and they are easy to work with, even after a week if \i try and put another layer of weathering on the original one wipes off. I think factory finishes seem so smooth now I wonder if even a coat of Matt varnish would hold. Steve.
  20. Not sure about a stock list but I think a new micro layout is definitely needed! 😉
  21. Welcome back @LDM34046 I hope you're ok. I'll look forward to seeing the projects you mentioned, our hobby can be a great distraction from the outside world sometimes, glad you've been doing a bit of modelling.
  22. Hi David, just found your thread. That looks a great project and you've made a cracking start. You've done a good bit of research so I'm sure it will be a fine layout. I'll follow this with interest.
  23. Thanks Hal, my era of modelling interest range far and wide, what was going to be a quick weather of a couple of grey wagons for a layout set around the 60's looks like it could be more involved and the stock used for another project!
