  1. Hope I get a chance to have a look at Hillport, I think I am right opposite you with Ruston Sidings!
  2. Superb looking wagons James, love the rust effects and scratches on the roof ๐Ÿ˜€
  3. A nice bit of engineering there Stu, and another photo of Sheepcroft ๐Ÿ™‚The loco does look good on there ๐Ÿ‘
  4. Always thought the English version would be along the lines of, downing 10 pints, lining up, shouting "come on then, who you looking at! you want some" and then end up fighting amongst themselves!
  5. That's a great description of your methods. I love the Martyn Welch book, wish it was in colour! His methods are always my first port of call. Did it take you long to get used to using acrylics with his methods? I find acrylic paints difficult to dry brush and to use for washes.
  6. Hold Back the Night - The Tramps
  7. From someone who is hooked on the latest weathering products and methods, I love the description of your methods. The results you get are superb and the colours all complement each other, I'd like to move away from enamels too but struggle to find a better medium for making a wash, I want to try the odourless thinners and oil paints but even though there is no smell I still think they are toxic, but you are not noticing so much.
  8. Thank you. I did from the sides, then airbrushed a mist over it again to give the impression the sides have been cleaned at some point. I'm enjoying the weathering, I like using the Powders a lot but the airbrush does give the even coating of soot and dirt I've seen in so many photos. Got to leave them alone for a few days now!
  9. I put the Ruston away for a bit and fired up the airbrush this afternoon, all have had some Railmatch Frame Dirt on the underframe then a mix of Frame Dirt and Weathered Black on the sides and with more weathered black added to the mix the tops were done. Not sure what next, I guess some powders and also some grease effects on the underframes.
  10. Thank you Rob. I do like working with the powders, I had a go at some airbrushing earlier which seemed a lot more scary!
  11. Thank you Rob, do you still use the fibreglass pencil to work back any weathering on a loco? Guess I could but very gently.
  12. Love that van! Go to say as well, in the close up the trackwork looks superb too ๐Ÿ‘
  13. Started fading the paint on the Ruston using Sand and White weathering powder, the photo's show I need to work the powders in a bit more but it's a start. There's no work done anywhere else yet.

  15. Thant's a shame, thank you, I'm looking forward to it. ๐Ÿ™‚
  16. 90 025 is looking seriously decrepit! Love the mould effect ๐Ÿ‘
  17. I've just realised that the Graphite Sticks come in different grades! The one I got is bone hard, do you know if that matters, I'm assuming the softer ones deposit more graphite?
  18. Thank you. I tried to make the track look run down, but that can interfere with the running sometimes. Something I'm currently ironing out. The show is here, https://ukmodelshops.co.uk/event/y2023/25472-MidEssexModelRailwayClub_Exhibition It's always a top show and well worth a visit.
  19. Thank you, I notice they do a "how to weather british trains" but seems hard to get hold of. I've got a couple of their weathering magazines and they are a good read.
  20. I like Ammo stuff, didn't know they did paints aimed at railway models. Can you get them in the uk?
  21. Thank you, I'll give that a go. Thanks David. I'm looking forward to having a go at using powders only on the other Ruston.
  22. I'm liking the airbrush for and all over dusty or sooty look, especially underframes. I do like the workability of oil paints though, combined with powders they give a nice bit of texture too. I'm trying powders only next on a Hornby Ruston.
  23. Thanks Rob, I much prefer slightly muted colours. Got my inspiration from yourself and a few others on here plus the Gordon Gravett book ๐Ÿ™‚
  24. Thanks for that detail Rob that's great, I've copied and pasted to a document for further reference and I'll adapt the methods for the Ruston, which I guess would weather in a similar way, before tackling the 03.
