  1. OP updated to include pete_mcfarland's 2011 natty challenge entry thread on building a SER stationand also his workbench blogs including building etched SECR coaching stock.
  2. Just to catch up, Ashland was indeed built and finished over the course of the weekend show and we had a full train service running for the last hour of the show. Just to prove it he I am behind the controls with the second train of the day. A full feature on how we did it will be in the next issue of the Hornby Magazine out next week (it went to press yesterday!)
  3. The Southern liveried version of the Kernow Models Beattie Well Tank has now been released for production see here for more details.
  4. In order to keep the Product Review / Discussion links thread simply to links to discussion on Southern / BR(S) products elsewhere on this forum I have created this topic to either post relevent news items or heads up links to other news items elsewhere either on or off the forum. I hope that makes sense feel free to add any news items or links relevent to the Southern, BR(S) or constituents. I have arranged for Eric's recent news post to be moved into this thread (but due its original posting date it now resides above this post, I hope that's not too confusing!)
  5. Sky have apparantly advised that there will be no ad breaks during either the race itself or the qualifying sessions, I would still prefer the BBC coverage to be all races though especially as I do not have or intent to get Sky F1 is not on the "Crown Jewel" list at all either Cat A, that must be shown live on free to air; or Cat B where highlights must be shown on free to air
  6. Pet sitting always goes wrong for me as I keep falling off the dog.... ...where's my coat?
  7. OP updated to add link to Matt's model of Horsted Keynes - Bluebell Railway as it is preserved today.
  8. I have updated the OP to include a couple of Burgundy's Terrier project threads.
  9. Hi Mike Good to see you on here, I hope you are well? Like you I also remember meeting up with you at Swanage for their gala, on a very hot September weekend. many thanks for the links to your own modelling work.
  10. Hi Guys I have updated the OP to include a link to the to discussion thread on the latest versions of the Bachmann Bulleid coaches. As I stated in the OP my intention for this thread was to provide A list of reference links to product reviews / discussions relevent to Southern / BR(s) elsewhere on the Forum , with the emphasis on discussion elsewhere on the forum, rather than try and link to every possible supplier of Southern / BR(s) related products. I am happy for other members to post such links or perhaps we should have a separate thread for such, what do you think?
  11. Recovering from building a layout in a weekend at the Hornby Mag Live event in Hartlepool but we did manage it!

Good luck, expect the Well Tank running by Sunday lunchtime! ;)

  14. Raphael Yes the Groups are a new feature of the forum and helps to collate relevant content together. The Southern Railway Group can be found here David Phil-b259 above is correct that the plates were removed from locos when repainted into the Bulleid style as he prefered painted numbers on cabsides rather then on the tanks or tenders.
  15. Has today reached the meaning of life and everything or if you prefer the number of times the words Lea & Perrins appears on a bottle of Worcester sauce!

Buy hima drink on Friday? we'd have given him the 'bumps'more likely...

  16. Raphael I meant to say earlier it's nice to see you back posting on here, you have been missed! Would be good to see an update on your layout etc again on here. I would also be pleased to link to it from the new Southern Railway Group on here too.
  17. Doh! serves me right for posting from memery, I knew it was the first built but forgot that the class started at 530 not 540. Note to self; next time, remember to check information before posting. Dave I have a feeling their might be a copyright issue with the picture as it is a scan from a current book, might be worth hosting somewhere else and linking to it, to keep within the forum rules. Withe respect to the plate on the cabside, it's a number plate of which there were three (one on each cab side and one on the rear of the bunker / tender) fitted during the Maunsell livery era up to 1937/8 Oringally there were 13 5/8" x 7 5/8" oval plates with "Southern Railway" across the top then the A, B or E prefix below that and then the number below the prefix. After the 1931 renumbering (ie dropping the A,B or E prefix) They were 13 1/2" x 7 9/16" oval plates with the number in the middle and "Southern" across the top and "Railway" across the bottom.
  18. Raphael If I remember correctly the Wills kit was based on Q class number 540 which has the angled frames infront of the smokebox as per the kit whilst the other members of the class all had the curved frame tops.
  19. Changing tack slightly but to give a heads up that a new Southern layout is about to be born. At the Hornby Magazine Live / Hartlepool model railway exhibiton in a weeks time (9/10th July) Mike Wild (editor or Hornby Mag) , Richard Proudman and myself will be building a layout over the weekend of the show as a live demo. It will be called Ashland, owing to it being loosely based on a couple of North Cornwall Railway stations, and will comprise of a typical passing station and goods yard built across two 4' 6" scenic boards. I will make sure that a few pictures are posted on here after the event. I am pretty confident that we will be able to complete it.
  20. OP updated to inlcude the new thread by jonte on his Harpford layout
  21. Hi Dave Well when first built it had the generic Triang/Hornby 0-6-0 chassis under it as the kit was orginally designed for. A couple of years later she was fitted with a old Mainline Collet Goods chassis which was slightly finer and more detail (even tho it was from the other railway) Common sense has since prevailed and she now runs sweetly on one of the fine SEF chassis's that you mentioned with a Portescap motor and indeed yes it does make the rest of the kit look very dated.
  22. That's good to hear Dave. The Will's Q was one of my first kit buids as a teenager, its now on its third chassis and is starting to look a bit tired for its age.
  23. Original Post updated with a link to Colin Parks fascinating thread on scratchbuilding a 2Hal in 4mm.
  24. Thanks 'The lurker' (great name btw) I don't was to wonder of fthe purpose of this topic to much but here is a little teaser of some of the progress on the buildings for Hawkhurst so far... Firstly the signal box and the perishable store The goods shed is 80% complete but no pics of that yet Note the pictures above of the real builds are as they are now and not necessarily in the condition they were in for my modelling period, but gives you an idea.
