  1. Link to GeorgeT's stuning scratchbuild of a 7mm Light pacific added to OP. Feel free to let me have anymore relevant links.
  2. OP duly updated Jam, many thanks. Keep them coming folks
  3. Thanks Red Fox I have updated the OP in this thread accordingly.
  4. Rather then loose this thread in the old Group archive section this has now been moved here into the Southern Railway Group which hopefully will also make it more obvious that its not one of the other S&D's as at least one of them has its own Group now!
  5. I didnt get up to Waterloo all that often but I do remember as a youngster going to the 'Casey Jones' Burger bar though! If that does not give my age range away too much. Welocme aboard Rick even with those initials in prominent in your user name! Glad to hear another Southern layout is on the cards, it does not surprise me that a few more Cornwallish layouts will start to appear due to the some of the models now and about to be available.
  6. Hi Rod Yes the office block between the Main and Windsor line platforms was known as the 'village'. It was of course demolished to make way for the Eurostar platforms.
  7. Well I chose Waterloo as it was, post 1923, the HQ for both the SR and BR(s). Also being located in the 'village' offices we would be just a few steps away from the famous clock to meet new friends under...which I hope this Group will facilitate...
  8. I'm glad you are liking what I have done so far. I am always open to other suggestions etc.in this thread, or simply pull up a chair in a virtual 'village' at Waterloo and use this thread to have a natter about all things Southern and BR(s).
  9. I'm glad you found it OK Chris. I am hoping that the new Group will enable such threads to be revitalised!
  10. OP Updated with a few more layout links, keep them coming....

  13. Just a quick post to bump to the fact that I have updated the OP to include a list of layoutlinks. If there are any I have missed or you would like adding let me know and I will update accordingly.

  15. After chatting with Andy we have decided that the best practice approach for the Group is to provide threads to post links to layout, workbench and kit building / scratch building topics that have a Southern / BR(s) theme keeping them in the main area of the forum structure. You will see that the process of moving other Southern / BR(s) theme across to the Group area has commenced to hopefully make this area a good central resource for all that is relevant to the Southern /BR(s) on the forum. If you are aware of other threads that you feel should be moved to the group either let me know by PM or use the report function to make the admin team aware.
  16. Similar to the Layout links thread, please add any links to workbench topics or blogs that have a Southern / BR(s) theme. As with layouts it make sense for workbench blogs, kit building / scratch built topics to remain in their relevent section on the forum and this thread to compile a list of interesting links. My own, 4mm, needing updating, workbench blog to kick things off can be found here. Kris's 2mm workbench thread can be found here Burgundy's EM build of a Billington E3 here and a couple of Terrier related R-T-R improvements here and here DLT's Southern Locos workbench thread can be found here GeorgeT's Scratchbuild in 7mm of Bulleid Pacific 229 Squadron Colin Parks Scratchbuild of a 2Hal in 4mm Pete_mcfarlane's SER station 2011 challenge thread also his workbench thread including SECR rolling stock is here DIW's thread on a Southern Pride 4REP kit can be found here and his thread on building a Finecast T9 can be found here Peter Cross (N15class) 1930's exLSWR workbench blog here and scractbuild of LSWR Pull Push Brake third driver here and third tailer here in plasticard here all in 7mm scale

  20. And thanks to you for setting up the Group Andy. By the way if you have been looking up EPB numbers it is worth noting that on the blue version the numbers are correct for the unit but on the wrong coaches!
  21. Just a brief message to say hello and welcome to the Southern Railway Group on here. The purpose of the Group is collate relevant topics and posts with Southern Railway and BR(s) content (please note this is not in anyway attempting to become or replace the existing SeMG email group and website on which many of us on here are also members, and as is such a valuable online resource) If you have reached this introduction post via the Group's 'Home Page' to access the index of Group topics.click on the 'Group Discussions' link in the left hand column >>
  22. What's this falling wet stuff.... Oh yes rain...not seen it for a while.....did you know the Queen reigns but does not precipitate....

  23. As part of the RMweb SWAGLand meet at Taunton this coming Sunday (17/04) there will be a table top display of a variety of Bulleid locomotives and Roilling stock. Also on show will be a recently nearly finished Southern Cinema coach and also the elusive Bulleid ‘Inspection Saloon’ or sleeper coach 100s along with other Bulleid rolling stock. Bullied pacific’s will present in force displaying a range of conditions that the engines could be found in during the 1946 to 1949 period. The display will include a number of original style Merchant Navy Pacifics as well as a variety of Light Pacifics. Below is just a couple of tasters of what will be on display. The Leader was probably one of Bulleid’s most controversial creations, my model built from a number of components sourced from Golden Arrow Productiosn will also be on show. The Southern Railway, in 1938 utilised an underframe from a fire damaged ‘Thanet’ stock composite No5337, for conversion to a cimema coach. It emerged from Lancing in Novemeber 1939 and could seat 60 persons for initially wartime staff instructional films and subsequently mutual improvement classes. Numbered 1308s it was paired to a generator van, no 1309s, converted from an ex LSWR 24’ passenger luggage van. Officially designated an inspection saloon 100s. built in 1946, was in fact a sleeper coach with 11 beds longitudinally placed within individual compartments. There was a central corridor, an attendants room and a shower room. Each compartment also contained a wash basin and even a trouser press! Although it was built to Bulleid’s standard 64’6†coach length and body profile the construction of the body was entirely plywood and formed a bit like an upside down boat hull. Even the bogies were unique to this coach mounted on radial pads which was said to give a very smooth ride. Whilst Bulleid remained as CME the coach running paired to its own generator van 97s converted from an ex SECR utility van in 1947 and was also often run along with dining firsts and a saloon brake. In addition to the above a number of other kit built Bulleid coaches will be on display. I look forward to seeing as many of your there as possible in Taunton on Sunday.
