    Dapol Class 22

  2. Generally more roundels were seen as the 1960's wore on. Named trains received the newest stock, which often got the roundels. These were later cascaded onto lesser services as new stock was introduced, often replacing older stock which did not have roundels.
  3. Probably yes, as most seem to be doing them at a discount. Class 40 PS are doing the sound one for £188.40 + £4.95 p&p http://www.cfps.co.uk/sales.htm
  4. Digging through some old stuff the other day, I found a TOPS readout of 5M20 1215 Motherwell - Red Bank on Friday 25 July 1980, which may be of interest. The consist on departure from Carlisle Yard was: 85004 Loco 80567 BR BG NAV 31183 LMS B NFV 31356 LMS B NFV 1719 SR PMV NQV 81313 BR BG NOV 81398 BR BG NAV 31393 LMS B NFV 86403 BR GUV NKV 80645 BR BG NAV 94762 BR CCT NPV 80796 BR BG NAV 86455 BR GUV NKV 80815 BR BG NAV 86411 BR GUV NKV 2537 SR CCT NQV 403 tons, vacuum braked. 15 vehicles, of which 5 were of pre-nationalisation design. The TOPS codes mean NA Bogie Brake, Gangwayed NF Bogie Brake, Non-gangwayed NK General Utility Van, BRUTE NO Covered Carriage Truck NQ Parcels & Miscellaneous Van It's quite rare to come across this kind of information, so I thought I'd share it!
  5. 346, 352, 364 and 393 were known early ones, done between 1969 and mid 1970-ish. There may well be some others Here's 393 in Blue with Maroon coaches, no date unfortunately. http://www.flickr.com/photos/40025/5849236894/ 352 in Blue 1969 http://railphotoprints.zenfolio.com/p692212777/h2b741723#h2b741723
  6. This one? http://railphotoprints.zenfolio.com/p692212777/h321384a#h321384a There goes my theory about Derby Works!
  7. I've just turned up a colour picture by John Chalcroft of D200 in GSYP at Heaton Mersey on 20 June 1969. It's in Rail Enthusiast, December 1982 p34 when they were campaigning to get in reinstated. And here's another very similar one in the same place from a month later http://www.flickr.com/search/?w=90686983%40N00&m=pool&q=D200%20heaton%20mersey It seems to have acquired a TOPS panel......
  8. Just looking at that photo D200 at Derby. With the chocked wheels it looks like it's waiting for works attention. It also has the two large BR arrows at each corner which indicates its previous works visit was Derby too. Don't know if anyone has Works visit reports but you may be able to tie the date it went blue that way.
  9. According to my records D200 was GSYP until at least 17 Feb 1968. The D was lost sometime after too. I wish I could find the picture again but I'm afraid I'm not that organised..... PS you will need to get rid of the nose top handles too, the first 10 didn't have them.
  10. Almost, but not quite..... http://www.flickr.com/photos/johnmightycat/5925844938/
  11. A really interesting thread, I remember seeing Lena Lovich on TOTP doing that strange out-of-key 'uh-oh-ee-oh' vocal thing. The open coach interior shots are in the Mk1 Pullman Parlour First, presumably E321E. http://urbanimage.photoshelter.com/gallery-image/Stiff-Records/G00005jZtqSvoaSs/I0000ifh0HxwAYxU/C0000rdY.ZwU_gYw http://urbanimage.photoshelter.com/gallery-image/Stiff-Records/G00005jZtqSvoaSs/I0000Ui8QaFq0_fI/C0000rdY.ZwU_gYw This looks like the train at York on the 9 November, with 40 049, heading for Warwick according to the gig guide..... http://www.flickr.com/photos/96859208@N07/9600130661/
  12. A worthwhile project for sure. However I'm not aware of yet more 50s and 55's that have been found to be preserved. Surely those that survive have already been preserved.
  13. Yes I agree a BSK. I must admit I didn't look too closely at the Mk1s. The freshly painted blue wagon initially looked to me like a Special Parcels Van (ex blue spot fish van), but it doesn't seem to have roof ribs on closer inspection. I had the Fruit D pegged as the very dirty one behind it, like this http://www.flickr.com/photos/nicks_railways/245873275/ Fruit D Goods van by Nick's Railways, on Flickr
  14. Very nice shots. I'll have a stab at the consist........ Loco+exSR PMV+exLMS B (or BG)+Mk1 BG+GUV+GUV+Mk1 BG+SPV+exGWR Fruit D?+exLNER Thompson matchboard BG+Mk1 BG+exSR PMV Any advances?
  15. I've seen a photo of this signal to the left of the tall one on the goods lines, showing Dn M as one option. From the signal diagram the options for the indicator signal on the Down Goods were Down Main, Up Main, and Spur. I presume these would show as Dn M, Up M and SPUR if they followed the same format as the other signal.
  16. Ah yes so it is http://www.flickr.com/photos/22525526@N05/9771145034/in/photolist-fTrEZQ-f6TMjc-7pzb8N-5L8MEM-eaegCU-ea8ACM-dPia9v-aaBHyY-aaBve9-aaBE8G-aaBCmf-aayJmP-aaBAxW-aayGs2-7Hyu2j-vhx4p-8xnhVy Stirling has those painted tractor tyres too.......
  17. Is the centre headcode class 40 in the second batch Stirling?. Those painted tractor tire flower beds certainly ring a few bells from Scotland trips......
  18. Thanks, of course it is. Severe case of brain fade today it seems!
  19. I'm very interested in seeing how this develops. I'm contemplating getting some scratchbuild materials together and I was wondering when you said 20 thou, did you mean 1/20th inch? i.e 1.27mm thick? I've grown up in the metric-era, so I find the old terms a bit confusing at times. Thanks.
  20. The 76050 was probably in for Multiple Working and air brake conversion. I think it then swapped numbers with 76038 to keep the batches of MW/XO, MW/AO and VO locos together. 76050 as 26050 was originally named Stentor, and 1 of 13 production series locos fitted with boilers. Dear old D1072 too, the first and last Western I saw in service at Paddington aged 8.
  21. It's definitely split milk for me ..... though not on my breakfast cereal under any circumstances..... In a related (crimson?) vein, has anyone else noticed how 'Off his own bat' has become 'Off his own back' in recent times?
  22. This one always makes me chuckle.... Psychic Fair Cancelled by garydale_cearley, on Flickr
