  1. I don't think this video has been linked before https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UbPwXfyBzWw#t=110
  2. It's a long shot, but perhaps this video has the answer... http://www.videoscene.co.uk/archive-newsreel-part-3-b-and-r-17.html and another last 9F shot on ebay recently, no clear view though of the class 40. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RailPic-9F-2-10-0-92063-leaving-South-Pelaw-for-Consett-/371092439217?_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D22704%26meid%3D7963456632463279046%26pid%3D100011%26prg%3D9178%26rk%3D8%26rkt%3D10%26sd%3D390665494511&_trksid=p2047675.l2557&nma=true&si=5zRTnRe1bQ7yMOwQjuxUGnYQjFg%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc The only entry on the class 40 motherlist is this: 04/03/1966 D257 Banker at South Pelaw Junction Banked 92060 on a loaded iron ore train from South Shields - Consett. D257 banked from South Pelaw Junction - ? http://www.class40motherlist.com/66mar.html
  3. I believe the Leamside line was the normal route for the iron ore in steam days, the route via Gateshead and Ouston Jct was from dieselisation onwards. Would the diverted ore trains have used the whole Deerness Valley route, or did they reverse at Deerness Valley Jct, and then go via Lanchester? Deerness to Crook and then reverse up the Tow Law line seems unlikely.
  4. The iron ore must have kept being supplied though. Blast furnaces are run continously until the refractory lining needs replacing, usually after a 'campaign' of 7 plus years.
  5. I suspect it was a little later than that - here is E5009 without any yellow in April 1967. There aren't many pictures around from 1963-1966, but BR(S) was the last region to add yellow panels on locos by quite some margin E5009_PettsWd_8-4-67 by robertcwp, on Flickr
  6. The RCTS has this: TSO 4471 Used by Consett Industries as accommodation at the former Consett Steel Works site. Broken up on site 9/84. I suppose it was cheaper than hiring mess cabins etc ?
  7. RCTS have a photo to buy, not sure if its the right side though...... http://www.rcts.org.uk/features/archive/image.htm?img=CUL3232&jpg=CUL/CUL3232.jpg&srch=&page=
  8. I think S7875S was 185 Barbara originally. It still exists on K&ESR, this link has some history. You might find something in the pullman coupe news - back issues here. Be prepared to be diverted though, possibly for several hours......
  9. This looks pretty conclusive for D7021 https://www.flickr.com/photos/robertcwp/2833111772
  10. Hmm, so it's possible that D7010 made it onto my list because the white paint had worn away in some locations. The rail online captions can be a bit dubious I find. For instance D7025 at STJ in 1971 definitely isn't D7025! By the way can you link any pictures of D7020-7022 in Green with no yellow panels? I had thought it was just the first 20 that were delivered in all over green. Edited for clarity.
  11. I'm wondering if D7010 is due to fat fingers on my part; certainly 3 is the normal number given for the BSYP no white windows locos - e.g. p38 Heyday of the Hydraulics by Hugh Dady. I may have picked the info up from the WDHL yahoo group, but the site seems to be down at the moment so I can't check.
  12. I made a list of Hymek liveries some time ago, though I didn't keep a note of the picture references then. These are my additions to your list: GFYE - D7016, 7029, 7075, and 7094 BSYP incl window surrounds - D7010 BSYP with white windows - D7041 I have 13 locos noted as fitted with minature snowploughs at one time or other, including those noted by Mark above. Edit : I did think D7025 got BFYE, but I think this picture proves that to be false https://www.flickr.com/photos/glevumblues/8635286166
  13. And Nicholas Courtney earlier the same year, a fine gent he was too.
  14. Still mulling it over here, perhaps another watch of this will help....... http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=f16_1314673094 BTF film 'E for Experimental'
  15. The photo of D5230 I mean is a side-on shot taken at Cambridge Road, St Pancras and the number is clearly visible. It's dated as 12 July 1969, but this could of course be incorrect. Edit: This one: http://www.derbysulzers.com/5230stpa.jpg
  16. D5230 was GSYP in July 1969, but became GFYE sometime in 1970. This photo of D5192 suggests it was blue in March 1971 [https://www.flickr.com/photos/96859208@N07/9697249285]
  17. The flickr link in post #8, gives the details on the cant rail grills. Search for 'hinge grills'. There were two types covering six different batches.
  18. It looks like it was taken from just inside the shed looking in a south-south-east direction. There were three tracks at a higher level behind the loco, that at one time had a roof. The distinctive terraced houses behind are on Forde Road.
  19. I'm finding this a really interesting thread, and also the website. Carr House East SB can be seen at (or near) 411394, 551052 on the 1962 map at http://www.old-maps.co.uk Not sure about Carr House West, possibly 411004, 550534. It isn't named on the map like East SB is.
  20. Interesting thread. In 1975 the KO - St Austell was diagrammed for 8 coaches and 11 carflats (2 of which were added at Reading), load 577 tons. All worked back on the 16:00, giving just over 2 hours to get all the shunting, unloading and loading done. In 1970/1/2 it was 10 carflats but with only 90 or so minutes to turn them all around. Info is from the BRCS Yahoo group.

    Impressive! (though not perfect...)
  22. I have a rule in life, don't buy anything from someone who can't spell 'proffessional'.....
  23. Another heap o' sh__ from Go***de http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AIRFIX-KIT-BUILT-BR-GREEN-CLASS-31-A1A-A1A-DIESEL-LOCO-D5531-WEATHERED-mx-/370937237412?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item565d950fa4 "It has been very nicely weathered" I mean, really!
