  1. I have a copy of a 1963 Working Timetable for Bristol which gives several trip workings for D63xxs. There's one for a pair which visited Stoke Gifford, Pilning, and Portishead during the day. There were 6 other workings for single locos covering similar locations, as well as Avonmouth, Westbury, and Ashton Meadows. At the time Bath Road had 9 locos allocated, with about 7 diagrammed daily to these trip workings......
  2. Yes I agree with this. I will still be having one, but it will be from my local shop.
  3. Nice photos - I like the Peak one in particular. I don't think it is D118 however - this machine was still vac-braked in August 1969 according to Brush Veteran's photo, which also has the D prefix. Your shot shows an air-braked example. Could it be D128 instead, which was on Derby works earlier in the year for a repaint?
  4. Rule 15: When you decide to embark on a modelling/detailling project you discover that a key supplier has recently stopped making the parts you need, through lack of interest, retirement, or worse. Rule 16: You will never have any useful leftover bits in stock to complete a model, unless you work for a magazine where the correct leftover bit you need is always available!
  5. Unlike Sky and ITV, who haven't even bothered to report the story.
  6. Ah I see, must be time to check on those pre-orders!
  7. and 1L11 in C1742 was the 11:10 SO KX - Scarborough. Dec 1976 seems very early for a class 47 to have this type of headcode modification - C3121
  8. D147 was one of the class 46s built with centre split headcodes, which was changed to centre type when they went through refurbishment at Brush from 1966. This loco must have been through early as most came out in corporate blue livery.
  9. And destined never to be run by the owner?
  10. The original Bachmann price was £349.95, but sold as low as £300 at Hattons etc. So using your percentages we might be looking at £480 RRP, or perhaps £420 with dealer discount.
  11. Trains starting on May 18, running 6 days a week. I think I will be making a trip over.....
  12. And, somewhat ironically, also confirmed by our man down in Brizzle! https://www.flickr.com/photos/brizzlebornandbred/12952392285
  13. Just wanted to say I posted a BB link to the photo, but I do feel a bit guilty by association! Nevertheless I'm glad it has been brought to your attention and the matter resolved in some way. I wonder how many of his other photos are similarly purloined?
  14. Just catching up on this excellent thread. There was some comments a couple of pages back about the late use of brake tenders which reminded me of this photo. The date is approximately correct, the loco received flush headcodes in June 1976. Not sure if it is some kind of engineering train or a revenue earning train? 15. Re 9-car sets, here's another variation https://www.flickr.com/photos/dodger5450/15448226636
  16. From June 1965, sets 701, 702, and 703 were allocated to Waterloo - Exeter services 701 - BSK+SK+CK+BSK+FK+RUO+RKB+BSK 702 - BSK+SK+CK+BSK+FK+RUO+RKB+BSK 703 - BSK+RKB+SO+FK+CK+BSK+SK I don't have any details of which set worked which services. The RKB and RUO would have been the rebuilt Bulleid Tavern car types I think, in the range 7892-7899, and 7833-7840. The Gresley buffet cars worked from 1966 to the end of steam, and mostly on boat trains.
  17. It's true the NBL Warships were rarely allocated to Waterloo - Exeter services, the Swindon variety being preferred for reliability reasons, which was important on the long single line sections west of Salisbury. The NBL Warships did work on passenger trains elsewhere on the WR however. They were pretty common on inter-regional trains to and from the Southwest and Paddington - Worcester services.
  18. Well that's me, well and truly convinced! It's a shame we can't see a little more of the Peak though. It seems D147 was another late GSYP example, but it isn't the one at Longsight - the OHL warning sign position was different.
  19. I think I would need to be convinced the date was correct for the photo of D5212 at Longsight. There's also a peak with small yellow panel headcodes behind, which seems something of a stretch for May 1970 for me.
  20. Interesting to see the class 24 in J3320 showing a full headcode, even if from several days previously when working in England..... The mixed train running in this period was the 0706 Dingwall to Kyle, conveying BGs, PMVs and CCTs and a CK on MSO. The return working was 1750 from Kyle, diagrammed for 9 coaches, only 4 of which has passenger accomodation. It was not unknown for fitted mineral wagons to be conveyed on occasion.
  21. Yes they are CKs, with first ends leading. Viewing again, I now think the full consist is 25+3xCK+126 iDMBS+126 iDMS+126 TC (or TF)+2x126 iDMS+126 iDMS+126 DMBS with "i" being the intermediate Driving Motors, with gangways. The long footboard on the fourth vehicle indicates the position of the brake/guard section.
  22. And here are some photos of them at Ely, awaiting entry to Snailwell.... Some good info too https://www.flickr.com/photos/117983829@N03/14950671002 https://www.flickr.com/photos/mrc31176/4353243305/ And in better days https://www.flickr.com/photos/geoffsimages/8773261638/in/photolist-engg2G-6nnznE-bzHuzw-6xE59u-6xzEea-6xDNsh-6xZyFf-6xDNc1-fUXByg-ekyi92-6xDNFL-awJfg3-bqbXhV-4t5W2d-pSELHs-9564AG-dGmCKL-9gUrj5-apQdCZ-eS36SJ-dQBteK-pBET7H-qmyQsh-q5bTRt-89NynC-nuSybD-btfDaR-qms2xB-nwNMbV-duzeSz-pZ4cNf-iKWkFK-iKV1e2-7iPAFi-6xzDga-dMkR47-dpcN8N-jkaRAG-5pD7Zu-985dMB-gbrEpv-97ZpWE-duydxP-97Zq6o-n6pzgv-86vR7e-9GGeub-odxejU-6ZPznp-qi21AE
  23. Yes I agree, vehicles 5-9 look like Class 126 gangwayed power cars, which had the brake section behind the cab. The 10th looks like a non-gangwayed power car from the same class. Vehicle no. 4 is trickier - it seems to have a different body profile than the Mk1 coaches, a long stepboard and 6 windows without an intermediate door. Perhaps a Cl. 126 buffet car? With the E-W 126's going out of service in 1971/2, they must have been hanging around for quite a while....
  24. I don't think it is D211, unless it's had a quick ride on a turntable..... I wonder what the sign said that we can see the rear of? Announcing the WCML electrification perhaps? Excellent photos.
  25. I agree 5557 is more likely, being an Immingham machine, as well as featuring in another of your High Dyke photos from a few years previous. ....But the OHLE signs were in different places on each side - the photo of 5561 shows the opposite side to your photo.
