  1. Or maybe a potato field a la Little Muddle?
  2. According to Peco's website the curves on their slips are 24 inch radius, so even better!
  3. Olivias Trains website is showing 9 Funeral Cars in stock. Depends on whether you are happy with their inflated price of £48.
  4. Looks good Graham. I think you have done well to replace the point & fit the new bit of rail without damaging the nearby dummy point rodding. Speaking from experience here! Philip
  5. I saw these a lot when I used to travel to LB in the 60s on the way to school but never rode in them. Good luck to KR but I can personally only see them appealing to niche collectors, even though they apparently polled well.
  6. Rob, Having received my BR lined version last week I must say that I agree 100% with everything you have said. So nice to see someone else taking a practical view of these excellent models. It would be a great shame if Dapol, Bachmann, Hornby etc. were to be put off future developments by the comments of some of the pedants in our hobby. Enjoy your D. Philip
  7. Graham, Would be grateful if you can advise how to obtain a digital copy please.
  8. Or maybe move it left a bit to the end of the building, but would probably mess up the roof base. Whatever, all looking very good.
  9. Andy, A couple of typos. Covering email quotes awards for 2019 and cut-off date quotes March 2020. Regards, Philip
  10. Hopefully Dapol will give up on their Manor and move on to a Southern U class to cut their losses.
  11. Nick, I don't know if this gives any more information than you have found already but there are 2 pages on Lyme Regis in 'An Historical Survey of Selected Southern Stations' by G.A Pryer & G.J. Bowring. They include a scale diagram of the track layout & building footprints, a signalling diagram & 3 photos. Philip
  12. All looking good Tony. Well done. Apologies if answers to these questions re Stowe Magna station are aready in your thread somewhere but: Are the platform canopies good old Airfix/Dapol or something else? Looks like you used peco platform edging but what did you use to get the dark tarmac top? Thanks for your help. Philip
  13. Just want to let people know of my 'Terrier' experience. I received my second DCC sound-fitted 32655 from Rails last week. This was a replacement for the first one that had to be returned when it ran on my layout for about 6 feet and there was a loud bang due to what seemed to be a blown decoder. Anyhow, checked the replacement to ensure that the footplate was straight, no missing lamp-irons etc. & off it went. All ok until it came to a point & got stuck. I use peco code 75 & found that the bottom of the tension-locks was catching on part of the crossing. Adjusted these & all ok until I put it in reverse & found that it derailed when it came to joints in the track. Further investigation showed that the front sanders were too low & were catching in the rail joints. Another small adjustment & everything now ok. Tested it hauling a Bachmann birdcage trio set up a 3% gradient & handled it with ease. Very good at slow speed but I did have to tweak the pick-ups to stop it stalling on some of my crossovers. This is my first sound-fitted 'steamer' which I purchased mainly to amuse the grandchildren. My wife was very impressed & after the inevitable "How much did that cost?" she remarked "that must make your other engines seem rather boring". So overall, despite a few trials & tribulations, very pleased. I know it didn't run perfectly 'out-of-the-box' on my layout but my own personal feeling is that a model like this cannot be expected to run perfectly on all types of track & the adjustments I had to make were all fairly simple. Well done Rails! Philip
  14. According to Bradley the first D1s entered traffic in 1921 so were part of the SECR stock until the Grouping in 1923. Not sure what livery they wore during those years, but it wasn't the ornate SECR lined one seen on the preserved D etc, They were some of the last 4-4-0s in service on BR, some not being withdrawn until 1961, so besides all the Southern Railway livery iterations some would also have appeared in BR lined black with both early & late crests. In BR days they appeared on all 3 divisions of the Southern Region, including the western one.
  15. Thanks for sharing that Graham. I was a bit surprised that Hornby picked this one up as I was more expecting it to come from Bachman, given the fact that they do the LMS version from which it was derived. Hopefully H will go on & do the 84xxx sometime, as some of those saw some service on BR(S).
  16. I would put my money on the SECR 'Dancehall' van as it had a long life & would go well with the intricately-lined green tank engines produced over the past few years. Also I have an unmade Cambrian kit in the to-do pile!
  17. Please can you provide details of the Roco couplings that you are referring to. I have 24 inch radius curves on my layout. Would that be too tight for them? Thanks for your help.
  18. Regardless of the reason why the school was targeted the result was an awful lot of damage, some elements of which could be replaced with funds available from the tremendous response, but some of which is irreplaceable as the original construction involved a tremendous amount of man-hours from skilled individuals. Whatever total value could be put to all of this is a net worth that was left unguarded for a reasonably long period of time. I am in no way criticising anybody involved in the exhibition arrangements but maybe a lesson for the future (insurance cover notwithstanding) may be that it would be worth investing in continuous on-site security from start of set-up , even if this results in a necessary increase to the admission prices.
  19. I note that amongst all the other announcements the popular Stanier corridor coaches are being released in 'Crimson & Cream' with a due date of next month. Hornby have however made an error under the picture of Corridor 3rd M2139M by quoting the description that relates to the Corridor First. Philip
  20. According to Bradley 31177 was motor-fitted in May 1953 and this seems to be confirmed by Hornby's picture. Philip
  21. Would look even better with the front bogie on the track!
  22. Firstly, another thank you to the Poll Team for all of your efforts. An interesting set of results. Like Phil, and others, I am a bit surprised by some of the more esoteric choices. The Bullied Leader polling higher than the LBSC 'K' class 2-6-0! This for an experimental class of which only one loco was actually completed and, as far as I know, never actually ran in revenue-earning service. As others have remarked, I guess some modellers just like to have as varied a collection as possible. I am not sure how much of a model's development costs are taken up by the chassis compared to the body, but it has already been commented that the chassis for the N15X could be used for a LBSC 'L' class. Likewise a SECR 'D' chassis could be used for a D1 4-4-0 and the LNER 'Hush-Hush' for the W1. I am sure there are lots of other examples, especially going back to pre-group days when some classes were rebuilt quite drastically before they reached their final forms.
  23. And by the time some of Bachmann's promised products arrive debit/credit cards will probably have been replaced by a new payment method!
  24. Tony, Been following details of your amazing collection with interest. Just want to respectfully point out that Maunsell's L1 was not an L conversion but a new design based on the L. Looking forward to the next instalment! Philip
