  1. Good morning everyone The sun is shining and after last nights rain the garden is looking quite lush. Sheila is out this morning for her regular visit to the hairdresser, so once she’s gone I’ll be making chocolate cupcakes with a peppermint buttercream topping for tomorrow nights tea. Back later
  2. Good evening everyone Well I’ve managed to get a bit more in the garden waste bin. Then just as I was starting to dig some more weeds, the handle came off my shovel. It’s got a plastic ‘D’ type handle riveted on and the rivet sheared, so it was off to the workshop to sort it out. A quick look in the shed and I found a suitable piece of steel that I could use as a rivet and hey presto I’d fixed it. By then it was almost dinner so I packed up. After dinner I went to the workshop to continue work on Max’s engine, a few more bits have been added and more work has been done on the chassis. The wheels are still occasionally binding when the loco top is fitted, so more investigation work is needed there to find the cause. Goodnight all
  3. Ride Like The Wind - Christopher Cross
  4. Good morning everyone It’s a bit duller today than of late, but that won’t bother me too much, as I plan a morning in the garden followed by an afternoon in the workshop. Back later.
  5. Walk This Way - Aerosmith & Run DMC
  6. Good evening everyone Well I’ve had a good day in the workshop, despite all the interruptions, but these did however, top up the modelling fund coffers! Today I’ve mainly been adding details to Max’s engine, small items which I usually leave towards the last stage, so as they don’t get knocked off during construction. Things such as hand rails on the boiler, smoke box, cab, tender as well as cab steps. I’ve also given it a bit more of a run, as it seemed to be binding every now and then, but only when the loco top was fixed on. I eventually located the problem to the valve gear, which seemed to be very loose, so tightened up the rivets and that seems to have cured it. Once a few more small items have been added, smoke deflectors, reversing lever etc, I can then give it a sacrificial undercoat to highlight and imperfections in the loco, hopefully some time this week! Goodnight all.
  7. Good morning everyone After having a Father’s Day treat of breakfast in bed this morning, I’m now sat at the kitchen table having just finished my 2nd muggertea, so I’m off to the workshop, I may be some time! Back later
  8. Night Scented Stock - Kate Bush
  9. Good evening everyone We had a bit of a lie-in this morning, I suspect that we both must have needed the extra kip after yesterday. So, once I’d got out of bed, I decided to clean the car inside and out. So the inside was done before dinner and the outside was done after dinner. Then, just as I was packing up, it started to rain, this was followed by thunder and lightening too! Fecking typical! 20 minutes later, the sun was out again! Anyway, the car looks a lot cleaner, both inside and out. Tomorrow I’m looking forward to spending the day in the workshop, doing a bit of modelling! Jamie and Beth. Glad to read your journey was uneventful, I hope you enjoy your new home. Dick. Sorry to hear of your fall, glad to read that you intended to take it easy today. Andy. Glad to read that you’ve been able to tame the black dog, for one day at least. Goodnight all.

  11. Thanks, the list will be very useful as I have some of the above kits to build myself and looking at how you’ve done them may assist me too!
  12. Devil's Answer - Atomic Rooster
  13. Good evening everyone Well I had a busy morning in the kitchen, but at least I got the curry sauce ready just before dinner. After dinner I got the chicken cut up, so all I had to do was brown it and then put it into the sauce. That just left the rice to cook it, I’d already sorted out the spices for that. So after completing the school run, we took t(e kids outside to the garden where they played for about 30 minutes. Once back inside I started the final preparations for tea. Not long after I’d made a start, our first guest arrived, Mike and Sarah came straight from work, not long after them James and Amelia turned up. Then we had a surprise visit by Charlie, apparently he’d told Vickie he was coming down, but she forgot to tell us, but it was really nice to see him, luckily I’d made enough for the extra mouth. It doesn’t seem 5 minutes since he was born, but he’ll be 18 next month, where does the time go? Vickie was last to get here, but we knew that would be the case, as she didn’t finish work until late, but she just managed to get here in time so she didn’t have to eat alone. Once they’d eaten all that was put in front of them we all retired to the front room for a chat, whilst the kids played games at the kitchen table. They slowly started to leave around 7:00 and I took Vickie and the kids home around 8:00. It was nice to see them all here together and great to chat with them all, but once they’d gone the silence was bliss. We then opened up a bottle of red, took a deep breath and relaxed. Goodnight all.

  15. Good morning everyone The weather here is dull but warm, with a slight breeze. Well I must have been very tired yesterday, as I didn’t get up this morning until after 9:00 this morning. Breakfast has now been consumed and once Sheila has finished the small amount of ironing that needs doing, I can make a start on tonight’s curry. There won’t be any football watched here, I was so disgusted with England’s performance that I haven’t watched a game since 2010, and so it will remain. Ah, she’s just put the ironing board away, so I’m off to the kitchen Back later
  16. Good evening everyone Well, it’s been a funny old day, quite windy, a few light showers and by mid afternoon the sun was out, although it was still breezy. After tea, as has now become the norm for a Thursday, I went to Salford Quays for a swim. The water wasn’t as cold as I was expecting it to be, so I was able to just wear my trunks again tonight. However, the water was fairly choppy, but surprisingly, it was still as busy as usual. Despite that I still managed to do 3 1/2 laps, I haven't swim that far non stop since I was 14! I think illl sleep well tonight! Ph. I had the same experience many years ago, whilst I was still at school a friend and I were walked down the road when we saw what we thought was a mist cloud in front of us. When we finally got to it it was very heavy rain, we actually stood on the boundary and we could put our hands in and out without the rest of us getting wet. We eventually had to walk through it to get to the bus stop and we got absolutely soaking wet. Goodnight all.
  17. Well my teeth have been given a clean bill of health, I’ve had a pat on the head and told to come back in 6 months. This morning I’m off to the Trafford Centre for a few bits and pieces for tomorrow nights curry, then I’ll continue with making the cheesecake for tomorrow nights tea. Ava, Evie and Max didn’t come for tea yesterday, it was postponed until tomorrow as Ian will be at a funeral all day tomorrow, so we are on school pick up patrol too! We will also have James, Amelia, Mike, Sarah and Vickie too for tea tomorrow night, so it really is a full house. We had a little rain last night, but it mustn’t have lasted long as the ground isn’t wet, but it’s still a wee bit blowy. Back later
  18. Good morning everyone It a bit windy here, I’m I’m talking about OUTSIDE before anyone says anything. I’m just off to see the dental hygienist so I’ll pop in on ER’s when I get back.
  19. A Town Called Malice - The Jam
  20. Good evening everyone I’ve had another good day in the garden, I’ve weeded and pruned around where the pond was, emptied a few old pots that have been hidden by the plants, resulting in the garden bin is now almost full, despite only being emptied today! I was surprised at how much old compost I had actually got bagged up, as by the time I’d dug up and levelled off the area around where the pond was and added the old compost it’s almost level. Although I do expect it to sink once we’ve had a bit of rain and it’s been walked on whilst planning the area up. After dinner I went to the workshop and did a bit more work on Max’s engine. Today I’ve had the loco body on and it has successfully run up and down my test track. So I can now start adding some details to it. The engine in question is an old Airfix Schools class kit and an old Hornby tender drive chassis and tender. Quite a bit of work had already been done, many years ago as I did originally intend to use it my self, but then Hornby brought out the new ones, so it was boxed up and has been sat gathering dust ever since. On the subject of loosing things! Many years ago, a few of us went camping in Stratford upon Avon. After getting back from the pub, a mate realised he’d lost his wallet and went looking for it, armed only with a cigarette lighter. He came back about 3 hours later having not found it. The following morning he got up and went round the back of the tent to relieve himself, he found his wallet during the process! Goodnight all.
  21. Good morning everyone I had a bit of a lie-in this morning, I must have been kn@ckered after yesterday’s work in the garden. The sun is now shining and it looks like it’s going to be another beautiful sunny day here in the northwest. The plans for today are to firstly retrieve the bins from wherever they have been left, then I’m going to make a start on filling the hole left by the pond. I won’t get it fill fully today, but it’s a start. Then plans for the afternoon will spent in the workshop and will involve metal strips on plastic spacers and motorised lumps of metal running up and down them! Dick. Nice to see you back and that the black dog is partly controlled. GDB. Congratulations to you and Chris, oh and not forgetting, happy birthday to Gemma. Back later
  22. Good evening everyone Well, as I’d hoped, that stump didn't put up too much of a fight, once I'd got all my tools sorted and I got stuck in, 20 minutes later it was out. I then dismantled the old pond waterfall and then filled in the pond itself. As much as I’ve enjoyed having a pond, it was getting to be a big hassle with regard maintenance. Also during my illness a few years ago, it got very neglected and looked a real mess. Filling it in is something I’ve been meaning to do for a few years now, this was completed before dinner. There is still a lot of earth required to fill it completely, about 6-8 inches, over an area of around 12 sq ft. But I do have several bags of old compost taken out of tubs, hanging baskets etc that I’ve saved for this very purpose. They will go some way towards filling it in, plus, by the time it’s levelled off and then planted up, it won’t be bad. After dinner I spent the afternoon in the workshop, doing a bit more on Max’s engine. I’ve given it a thorough clean and given it a run on my test track, albeit just the loco chassis and tender. Goodnight all.
