  1. A couple of good replies gents. Certainly Mr Henry Norris was a Naughty Man pocketing £125 from selling the team BUS. As well as paying his chauffeur out of Arsenal's Kitty. I suppose the !916 -1918 seasons were non existant due to th War. Good to see your not Proud of your South Yorkshire routes Mickey . My friend Michael is rather partial to the Blades and with his buddy from Eastwood in Nottinghamshire I thought it was a Shaw fire Plan he might start to follow Eastwood Town earlier this year when the Blades were struggling. However its just as well he didn't :- Northern Premier League Southern Division -- Feb 2014: Eastwood Town resigned from the League, playing record expunged, (they had hardly completed any fixtures all season). Kind Regards, Del.
  2. Quote " What's truly awful about that year, is that Arsenal got promoted, even though they finished in 5th place (WITHOUT play off's it seems)." Quote I presume this was something to do with the first World War ?
  3. rembrow, whilst actually supporting your argument ,when I checked the "Hattons site last night the following prices are shown.:- Heljan 3903 Class 02/2 Tango 2-8-0 in BR black with late crest Pre order Price £148.00 Heljan 3904 OO Gauge Class 02/2 Tango 2-8-0 in BR black with early emblem - weathered Pre order Price £156.00. Regards,Cutler.
  4. Quote"I think the pricing used from the Hornby comparisons are incorrect and misleading. First, there is no R4531D that I can find. It is not in the 2014 Hornby catalogue nor on the Hornby on-line shop. the only items showing in both for this coach are R4531B and C full price £48.99 as it was when listed in the 2013 catalogue. These have just been released, having been delayed from 2012. The previous versions R4531 and R4531A were priced at £36.49, so I make the price rise £12.50 or an increase of 34.25%. This is bad enough but nowhere near the 50% indicated. At the actual increase, R4531D, if it is released in 2015 might be £65.77, not £81.00. The O2 is going to be expensive, so lets not try and justify it by comparisons. Recent Heljan items have been expensive, but are realistic as they are based on prototypes that are unlikely to sell in large numbers and because of this Heljan have made low number production runs- Class 16, AC Railbus as examples. I'm not sure the O2 fits that category as it is a mainline freight engine, with the potential for high interest. Does the price worry me, yes, as with normal Heljan practice it is likely to rise steeply at release, but I've ordered two " Quote. I got the information about R4531D in an e-mail from a retailer and whilst that may be a Red Herring, how about this from Hattons today :- Hornby R3114 Class B1 Thompson 4-6-0 61270 in BR black with late crest £115.00. (or from the Hornby on-line shop @ £129.99). Heljan 3903 Class 02/2 Tango 2-8-0 in BR black with late crest Pre order Price £148.00 Heljan 3904 OO Gauge Class 02/2 Tango 2-8-0 in BR black with early emblem - weathered Pre order Price £156.00. I see no problem with comparisons as that is a way of purchasing many things -- Houses for example. A vendor tries to sell a house for £300,000 while an identical house has been valued at £250,000 a buyer may feel the dearer house is the one he wants to purchase, but a lender will look at the value of other similar properties and value the house nearer to £250,000 and lend accordingly. The O2 is in your opinion going to be expensive, I am not trying to justify it by making these comparisons. I am pointing out the relative difference in price between two products that as an Eastern Region "oo" gauge modeller I would undoubtedly purchase. The B1 is an outstanding model in my opinion and I believe the Heljan O2 will be an equal to it,at least. If as you fear the price increase's excessively after release then the situation becomes different but at the prices above I think my prayers may yet be answered if Heljan decide to make the O2 their first BR Steam release in "O" Gauge and quadruple the "OO" price. Regards.
  5. Lets not forget the Metropolitan Bo - Bo and the OO9 Lynton and Barnstaple 2-6-2 loco are basically just another loco in so much as there were very few variations in the whole class of these loco's ,but the O2 is another ball game all together. The tooling for thie O2 has got to be Multi Functional and produce possibly an O2/1 certainly an O2/2 ,O2/3,O2/4 and three variations of Tender with their own peculiarities such as handrail lengths on the Stepped Tender. Therefore it's hardly any wonder that it is taking longer to design than a Metropolitan Bo - Bo or a OO9 Lynton and Barnstaple 2-6-2 loco. As for price @ Hornby's rate of price increase a Gresley Full Brake Coach R4531E will retail at £81.00 in 2015. I arrive at that because last year R4531B retailed @ £36.99, this year R4531D retail's @ £54.00 an increase of 50%. Therefore apply 50% to £54.00 and Hey Presto £81.00. So to me £150.00 for a top of the range Tango is not unreasonable.
  6. Ian, would have been worth laying one, I would have thought. Regards,Cutler.
  7. If he did he is not going to let on on here is he ?.
  8. Not many my friend. Although the London Rubbish trains wanted some beating for awful smells. They were worse than some Model Railway enthusiasts at exibitions.
  9. More like Soggy than Skeggy by the time they reached Grantham I fear.
  10. Called in for some paint last Friday and the staff were very friendly. There was a cracking looking young lady on the counter and she went out of her way to say hello. She was just being nice and friendly as she looked about 47 years my junior, so unless she is Crackers or needs to go to Specsavers it was nothing to do with fancying me.
  11. Lovely finished job Tony. Top rate modelling. Regards,Derek.
  12. Thanks for that Pete, good when I have to rely on compatriots 3000 miles away to update me on what is happening 18 miles away in Bourne.
  13. Hello 31A, Pete's excellent question and your answer have shown the true potential of your layout, so I am even more impressed. I am building a similar arrangement in "O" Gauge,(meant to represent an East Coast seaside terminus), but must confess if I was just starting I would be cheating and using your trackplan with it's potential for tremendous operation. However to start again would probably mean it would never get completed as age creeps on, so Hey Ho as they say. A final question, did you design the trackplan yourself as I imagine or did you crib it from somewhere. Regards,Cutler. (Del) PS. only realised yesterday that my good friend Ben Jones has left "Model Rail".
  14. What no mention of Lyons Individual Fruit Pies, not only my favourites but also Great Northern of this parish. Up North we had Vimto instead of Tizer as I recall. Steve go for it with a magazine or I will name drop with a Sheffield Wednesday supporter in Peterborough and a resident of a village on the ECML who worked in Bourne. Afraid I don't know Mike Wild or Steve Flint on a personal basis, but two from four is not bad.
  15. Have always been a fan of this layout and I feel it's long overdue to appear in one of the Mags. The owner feels it's not finished. I reaffirm my View that it's long overdue to appear in one of the Mags Love the latest pics. Especially 60070.
  16. One of the Tourist Attractions of this once Great City. I regret to say.
  17. Lead Shot, Gilbert. No not for weighting the fish vans, but for that Duck right up the Kyber. As Cpl Jones used to say "they don't like it up em! Captain".
  18. The use of Hairspray scented or cheap is not a purchase for me these days. My "Trimming Operative" is threatening to give me a quote in future, due to the time it's taking him to find hair to cut.
  19. Is it any wonder us model Railway chappies get a bad press with all this talk about which Make Up Brushes these grown men buy. I suspect Mr Foster has been spending too much time teaching Young Ladies and the make up habit has caught on. However I am at a loss to find an excuse for our other friend?. Regards,Derek.
  20. The Good Olde days at Loftus Road with Rodney Marsh & Clive Clark to name but two.At Wembley we were two down at Half Time, but came back to win 3-2 . I was in the last year of my apprenticeship and got my ticket from a tout for 25 shillings (£1.25 p). That was daylight robbery. Alec Stock was the Manager and got sacked the following season whilst he was ill in hospital. Left a bad taste in my mouth I have to admit and never went on a regular basis again.
  21. Oh No,nowhere near Grantham !!! Hup North, Lad.

  23. Lee, welcome to Rmweb, that was obviously your Father's Father. Surprised to hear from Dave recently that he still cycles 25 miles a day at 80 and his son works in Skinners of Barrowby. Sorry to go off Topic folks. Regards, Cutler.
  24. Just noticed this item for sale on Flea-bay Item No. 201022834785 eBay item number: 201022834785 MODEL RAILWAY JOURNAL ISSUE NO.27 Which features the Original Borchester Layout if I remember rightly, but it's definately a Borchester Issue and at £1 even I would buy it. But I have already got it,but not to hand to confirm the contents accurately. Regards.
