    Can anybody suggest a free drawing program that we can try? We have a cameo 3 and a cameo portrait and want to do some of our own designs. We may buy a more comprehensive drawing package if we get on o.k. Thanks for any info you may have Steve

    Hi Phil I do indeed remember Melbrodge. I had the pleasure of seeing it operate faultlessly for 2 days many years ago when you came to the Coventry model railway club. I seem to think that you had to adapt the lighting rig due to the low clubroom ceiling. The clubroom was then and is now in the canal basin warehouse. I have happy memories of the day

    Its been a while since I last posted still working on the goods shed. A couple of pics to show finished roof. I haven't worked out how many slates it's taken but its LOTS. Next jobs are guttering and downpipes,painting facia boards and chimney, the office interior and weathering. After that it's on to the second part......oh wonderful lots more bricks and slates I must be mad!!!!

    Thanks BG JOHN I will try those settings. The blade should be ok as its only 3 months old, we will give it a clean and see if that helps. We are new to the cameo so are on a learning curve. We hope to be able to get as good as others on here, we have seen some brilliant work inspiration indeed Steve

    Hi to all. Can you help,I am having trouble cutting paper with the cameo three. The blade used is the standard one that came with the machine, the cutting speed is 3 and thickness 15. The problem is instead of a clean cut the paper is ripping any ideas for a cure as I am just wasting time and paper. Thanks in advance Steve

    Hi Allan what is the white stuff you are using in picture 4 and what is going on in pic 5? It looks interesting and I'm curious as to your methods so I thought ask the master! Steve

    Thanks for the like Allan. I forgot to day that when all the rooves are finished I will give them a thin ink wash to colour the cut edges this will help to disguise the rustic nature of my attempt at slating (I hope) Steve

    Slow progress on the roof and its not as easy as I thought it would be. The slates are looking a bit rustic to say the least I just hope that the finished article will look ok. I don't think I will be doing another curved roof anytime soon!!

    I think I saw the layout at York some years ago, I thought then it was the best in show first class all round. It's a pity its now defunct. The layout was a master class of modelling Steve

    I have started to put slates on the goods shed roof although progress is slower than I would like (more important things to do according to SWMBO). But on the plus side I now have a discarded umbrella the ribs are a little deep for guttering but should be ok with a touch of the file. Thanks to Mr Downes for the idea.

    It's the £18 that puts me off Ian. It cost £1 for 50 sheets of 200gsm card from a well known shop(everything £1) ink we have had for years and the cost of printer ink if I use the printer. You may have realised I don't like spending money lol I am on pre-stretched finances as it is so I do like to be frugal. Some friends do say I'm just tight,short arms deep pockets ect. I will however by good quality ply when I start baseboard construction Steve

    Thanks for the input re guttering there are a few broken brollies in Llanelli's streets and I have to get some scalpel blades on mail order so half round plastic will go on the list. The curved canopy will be slates this should be o.k. if I mark out levels first. Slates, like tiles can be cut/dressed to show a curve. Short or tight curves need the sides dressed long or shallow curves have the ends dressed. With this in mind I hope it will go o.k. Steve

    Hi KNP the slates will be cut and laid individually might take a fair time to do though. I have started on the other half of it and will post pics soon. Can any body come with ideas for guttering? Downpipes are not a problem. I have looked at ratio's offering but I think they look a bit small,I have tried splitting tube but gave up cos I like my fingers as they are so any thoughts will be most welcome!! Steve

    Goods shed now has a roof. I an colouring a master sheet for the slates which will be scanned then printed on 200gsm card,cut and laid. Well that's the plan. I'm hoping to have it done by next week then I can start on the other half

    I agree with you J.C. This thread is about scratchbuilt buildings not a discussion no the merits or not of different railway companies for the people who want to do this start your own thread and don't highjack this one! So can we keep to the threads title please? Steve
