  1. Have been on to order 6 for delivery to Oz, yes, they can do that but no VAT deduction? Cheers from Oz, Peter C.
  2. Absolutely agree that these would be superb, and very useful. However, for the real 'cute' factor I will sacrifice these on the altar of the GER/LNER/BR E4 2.4.0. It will look so good alongside the already ordered J67-9, and there is an example to scan, and it can be finished in blue, which as anyone who has worked at Hornby knows, is guaranteed to triple sales!!! Cheers from Oz, Peter C.
  3. This pic may help, the chassis was as supplied Amanda, but it was some time ago, around 2019. I vaguely remember altering the brake levers. Just looking at her site now the current models shown do appear to have a longer wheelbase. When the rain eases up and I can get back to the shed I'll check mine. The Insixfish is on the website to order. Cheers from WA, Peter c.
  4. This is how I did mine. Also Amanda now has the Insixfish ready for printing, I was fortunate that she sent me an early example to finish. Really needs a weathering wash but the weather here has precluded that. Also, I sprayed the white onto an unprimered body, I won't make that mistake again! Cheers from WA' Peter C.
  5. Next up is 45704 'Leviathan'. This was chosen as I have a replica nameplate from the loco. This was a full repaint from an LMS liveried example of the Bachmann long firebox Jubilee. It was brush painted using a twenty-odd year-old tin of Humbrol 172 after the body had been sprayed with Tamiya black from a rattle can. Lettering, lining, numbers and nameplates are all from Fox. Various detailing parts were added, lamp irons, draincocks, tablet exchanger and the steps moved slightly inboard. The chimney was again replaced with a 247 models example. The chassis is a smooth and quiet runner. Cheers from Oz, Peter C.
  6. I have over the last year or so been modelling different variants of the LMS Jubilee class. The latest off the workbench is 45629 'Straits Settlements'. This is one of a small number of the class fitted with the Stanier rivetted 3500 gal. tender. The model has a K's kit tender body mounted on a Bachmann 3500 gal. underframe. Compare this to 45564 'New South Wales' which was one of the few attached to a welded 4500gal Stanier tender. Both the above models use the latest Bachmann Jubilee model. Compare with this. This is the older Bachmann jubilee representing the long firebox version of the class. The chimney was replaced with a 247 cast version for greater fidelity to prototype. Others will follow as and when the projects are finished! Cheers from Oz, Peter C.
  7. Here is a kit that I think might even try the patience of Mr. Wright, our esteemed 'Kitmeister' !!! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/166254961419?hash=item26b591630b:g:eJ8AAOSw69hkxnWr&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAAAsG3RWpgMVhaBnWTk9F5qu6Ud7PLpN5vQDJeDCaWDEd42nBBNAiWM1XZ6GnPDCMbfvuH2xq%2FhmrH%2FEnYjx8PONBoDrvt2fMHMkACpZNjjJoT7c9zdqBeGJcOKNRRPdsbiwwDyRfCQ%2FhRlxLd3Cks%2F6uK7ni%2Fwi7r92Eqt6E0sSCejoTtHyGEQCv7Ah5VC8223T5D%2Fy3w8qAJfAYBftft923Up90OexGk5hk9bEVEdWojN|tkp%3ABk9SR9zZkbS1Yg Cheers from Oz, Peter C.
  8. In all fairness Dave I have not found that with the Fox lining. It does not pay to be too ambitious and try to use the whole tender lining panel in one piece, (it can be done but the swearing and tension make it, shall we say, unpleasant)! I recently finished a Stanier 3500 gal. tender and basically cut corner radiuses out and positioned them, then filled in the straights between them. I have found the lining to be quite strong and quite happy to be positioned, dabbed dry, and then rewetted to straighten or move even after a few minutes. Splasher lining for a Jubilee/Scot or similar is easily applied as a single piece. I have only actually used the valance lining once, and found it better to position all curves first, and then add straight lengths afterwards, this can be fragile so less is more here. I have been very pleased with their boiler band lining, as this is again quite robust and sympathetic to rewetting and repositioning. All these remarks apply to the orange/black/orange lining, I have not as yet used their MT lining as I am still working through stocks of Modelmaster for that. There is absolutely minimal excess carrier film on the Fox product, no clear film either side of the lining. It is quite happy with Tamiya acrlic spray varnish to seal. As an example, this is a Hornby A2/3 repainted from LNER to BR green by brush, and using Fox lining, letters and numbers. Hope this is useful. Cheers from Oz, Peter C.
  9. What is the source of the large wheel bosses please? I would like to use some on a Bachmann original Patriot to model 45500/1, (ignoring the small difference in 4mm scale of the loco wheelbase)! Thanks in advance, Peter C.
  10. Just in case you, (or anybody else), does another! Lord Nelson Tender Loco Lining Set (fox-transfers.co.uk) https://www.fox-transfers.co.uk/transfers/lord-nelson-tender-loco-lining-set No connection except as a very satisfied customer who has used several Fox Lining packs! Cheers from Oz, Peter C.
  11. Received an email from Hattons this morning! Class 9F 2-10-0 92097 in BR black with late crest - with Westinghouse Pumps Our latest information from the supplier suggests this item will arrive with us between October 2023 & November 2023 Whilst we are hopeful this information is accurate, manufacturer lead times are frequently prone to be delayed. This information is to be used as a guide only. We hope that this email has been useful. Cheers from Oz, Peter C.
  12. A very good question indeed Mr. Mortimore! I have to say, observing from a good distance, that larger steam prototypes seem to be off the radar of most 4mm RTR manufacturers. Hornby aside, with their endless supply of LNER pacifics, most of the others seem to be concentrating on smaller steam locomotives, Industrials, Y7, E1 and 15xx come to mind. Accurascale are giving us a 'Manor', which unfortunately duplicates the Dapol model. Dapol in turn promise a 28/38xx, which duplicates the Hornby model. I agree with the desire for a K2, K4, E4, J17/9/20 and B16, but there does seem little chance at the moment. Possibly the strangest decision to me is Rapido opting for the HR Jones Goods as a first venture into Scottish RTR. I would have thought the 'Glen' would have been the more obvious choice, wider distribution, longer life in more liveries, but 'twas not to be! For GWR followers the 10xx County and 29xx Saint seem obvious targets but again, no discernable rumours. Meanwhile other new manufacturers seem hell-bent on duplicating diesel models that are only a few years old. Not my area of expertise but were the existing models of Class 50,56,60 and 66 all that bad? This does not mean I am anti-diesel, I have supped long at the well of obscure prototypes and pilot scheme designs, but does it indicate that manufacturers see the moving on from the traditional older steam/transition era railway modeller to a younger market more lucrative? In addition, I see that Diesel models are much more attractive for all the DCC bells and whistles, sound, lights etc. which younger more technology savvy people appreciate. As I say, this is not meant to be contentious, or the start of a wishlist, just the thoughts of an older modeller on a damp Sunday afternoon in the Antipodes! Cheers from Oz, Peter C.
  13. I think you will find that the tender attached to 35013 whilst still streamlined is the same type as Hornby model with their models of 35010 to 35019, so only the BR emblem needs to be changed to small early crest. Hope this helps, Cheers from Oz, Peter C.
  14. Hi Paul, I hope you persevere with this, I would be very interested and have a spare 76xxx to donate chassis etc. I have seen some of your excellent work on this and other forums and I have no doubt it would be a well-manufactured item! I still remember H.C. Casserley describing the 77xxx in 'The Observers Book of Locomotives' as " A very ugly engine", but one that is redolent of the N.E., Sc. R. and latterly Southern Region. Cheers from Oz, Peter C.
  15. Rails of Sheffield have occasional good discounts on the V2, worth keeping an eye out. This has resulted in me ending up with four, all variants of the RoS BR Green model with no steampipes, (which represents the majority of the class in BR days). Nameplates/numbers by Fox. Splendid performers, which will handle a heavy train with ease. Recommended! Cheers from Oz, Peter C.
  16. Having heard nothing about this model for over a year, is it safe to assume that it has been lost in the Oxford/Hornby merger, and will not see production? Concerned of Oz, Peter C.
  17. Timara, Might I suggest you look at Fox transfers numbering as a substitute for the HMRS? I have been using them for some years now since the HMRS Pressfix items became unavailable. They are waterslide with absolutely minimum carrier film and come in a variety of sizes, also cream which matches Hornby rtr numbering very well, and the correct off-white shade which suits Bachmann partial renumbering. https://www.fox-transfers.co.uk/prototype-10-inch-steam-cabside-numbering-58503 Here is an example as applied to a Hornby A2/3 repaint. And a partial renumbering of a new Bachmann V2 The crests and lining are also by Fox on the A2/3. No connection other than as a very satisfied customer! Cheers from Oz, Peter C.
  18. Thanks, but I love my Dog!!!!!
  19. I remember clearly as a 9 y.o. boy standing in Bob Denny's shop at Sawley looking at Wills whitemetal kits with my dad. I wanted a 'Crab', but saner heads prevailed and I walked out with a Wills Caledonian 0.6.0 tank kit and a tube of Seccotine, or Uhu or somesuch to stick it together. It sat on my Tri-Ang jinty chassis and I was very proud of it! Fast forward 60 years and I obtained an unbuilt kit of the same class from EBay for a modest sum. Despite having built several whitemetal kits throughout my modelling life, I was keen to redo my starting model. I have acquired over the years several Bachmann Jinties, including chassis units, and I decided to use one of these as the chassis. It all went together quite well, although a fair amount of filing and filling were necessary to get an acceptable (to me) finish. I used Gorilla superglue with epoxy reinforcement for assembly, apologies to TW but I am not a confident solderer! Modern? improvements such as the use of handrail knobs, lost wax smokebox door handle and etched brass grilles helped improve on the original build! The result... Much encouraged by this first build, I picked up an unmade Gem J83 kit from Oz Ebay, again very reasonably priced. A little research showed the Jinty chassis could again be used, albeit with some modifications to brake gear/sandboxes etc. Again, the kit went together very well, with filing/filling as usual. Please disregard the dog photobombing in the first picture! Finishing of both these kits is made much easier by having access to internet resources such as Rail-online to allow a specific loco to be modelled. Overall, I'm pleased to be 'back in the saddle', and I am ready to take the next challenge, the SEF E4 2.4.0, but this will require chassis building! Cheers from Oz, Peter C.
  20. When you are concentrating hard on getting the photo subject just right, your faithful dog photobombs you! Cheers from Oz, Peter C.
  21. B.R. Strip coil wagons and loads. Conflat LD and dolomite containers. Cordon. Amanda is very easy to deal with and can offer savings if you wish to use your own wheels, couplings etc. which she then does not have to provide. I am waiting for her Insixfish van, she messaged me recently that it not too far away! Cheers from Oz, Peter C.
  22. Jonathan, I have dealt with Amanda for several years now and she has provided me with a good number of wagons, which with a little care and attention, turn out very well in my opinion. Parrot wagon with load. LMS Iron Ore hoppers. GW Grano. More in next post. Peter C.
  23. A couple more from the SW trip on May 5. Having now finished at Calcine as seen earlier in the day, PA2819 heads back to Bunbury with Caustic tankers in tow at Roelands. Having crossed PA 2819 at Burekup, P2506 heads the other way with more Caustic tanks. At Brunswick Junction P2512 surprised us with yet more caustic tanks, this time from the refinery at Worsley. Last shot of the day sees ACN4145 heading loaded Alumina to Bunbury port, with the rolling green hills of the Darling Scarp as a backdrop. Unusually during the whole outing, we saw none of the usually ubiquitous bauxite trains, loaded or empty. A very pleasant 6 hours linesiding! Cheers from WA, Peter C.
  24. I have not previously posted on this thread, but if there is sufficient interest I am happy to share images taken in the 'Golden West'. My most recent trip was with my son, Ian, for my birthday on the 5th May. We spent time on and around the South West Main line from Pinjarra to Brunswick Junction. Typically traffic in this section is the moving of Bauxite ore, Alumina, Caustic Soda and the occasional coal traffic, all relevant to the Aluminium smelting industry. The pioneer S class 3301 recently outshopped takes a caustic train from the refinery at Calcine to Alcoa Kwinana south of Perth. This is an ex-Aurizon Queensland 28 class loco. 2819, classified PA here in W.A. It is an orphan on the system, all the others still working in Queensland. It has recently been reactivated. Caustic train from Bunbury port to the refinery at Calcine. The Australind passenger service heading to Bunbury. This diesel set is due to be replaced in the next two years. ACN 4173 heads a loaded Alumina train to Bunbury port. Sister engine 4145 heads empties back to the refinery from Bunbury. We have caught up with ACN4173 at the small town of Burekup, home to the Henty family since 1831!! There is a crossing loop just south of Burekup, and this P class loco had been held in the loop with empty alumina wagons waiting for the ACN, crossing immediately after the ACN departed. Cheers from WA, Peter C.

    EBay madness

Just listed on Oz Ebay! https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/145066844306?hash=item21c6a86092%3Ag%3AzHQAAOSwDI1kVFL6&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAAA4O6RsqPcwpkOZ76aBPrbFGEa0MXqMUtb86bKTyLq%2Frz3LyyJtQBLUbv4MWAAi2bT2rDF996oVMCj5SKtGDQ0jN3A9m%2FOfV49WYRORxQ4%2BezwXdTWAWVtNzDgVpqgxX%2Bpz1EDhIqzsC%2BykhKoSX%2FCjKlj0H1ezARL66GwFW1cle1FjrxCDCX9BTED6GS%2FzyAPjVOCjvhh3iZYfS3ZoiEG%2FEyaMPyxVuzUWQ0%2BMdLfQw4b9xd9n3kf6QcCOzokHe2Alxt3IwMgF56Ify6FoPvmXfPSrlSP%2Fr6STztFTu71gxsj|tkp%3ABk9SR9K8sbT9YQ&LH_Auction=1 Yep!
