Always an excellent show for O gauge modellers and those thinking of trying O gauge.
  1. Very likely. As a rough guide a seven year plus overlap is possible.
  2. An enjoyable issue but two of the book reviews on page 131 have ended up mixing up the details of two books in each case. So what were the reviews meant to be, ‘The King’s Cross Story’ or ‘Atlas of Railway Station Closures’ and ‘LMS Review No. 3 or ‘Southern Style - After Nationalisation 1948-1964’?
  3. The 1.5 pm Wrexham to Bala and the return departure from Bala at 3.25 pm to Wrexham are shown in the 1st October 1945 until further notice CWP as part of the roster for No. 2 Croes Newdd Auto and 2 trailers. There is a note ‘A’ against the 3.25 pm working that Third, Van Third attached for Bala scholars - Saturday’s and school holidays excepted. Do you have photos of the auto train workings for your 1956 CWP? GWR and BR CWPs for Chester Division are extremely rare. I only know of 3 - GWR 1922, GWR 1945 and BR WR Summer 1957. The BR one was included in a display in the 1980s held at Bala Museum (?). ‘X’ is corridor stock.
  4. Best offers are cancelled as soon as a bid is placed so if the seller sets a low start price it is worthwhile to just bid at that price.
  5. The BR LMR Southern Section Sectional Appendix to Working Timetable and books of Rules and Regulations, June 1969, page 292 contains the same information as EddieK posted as does the April 1991 version, Section C General Instructions, pages C10 and 11. The BR WR Cardiff Division Sectional Appendix, April 1969, which includes the lines south of Craven Arms, does not give this detail but refers to the BR WR General Appendix, pages 39-43, "Working of Multiple Unit Mechanical Diesel Trains".
  6. It contains those vehicles that entered BR at Nationalisation. It starts with a numerical list of all the stock that came into British Railways ownership including building and withdrawal dates and diagram number. What follows is a “Hauled Stock Class List” by diagram number.
  7. The earliest reference I have found is in the BR LMR Section D WTT, 18 April 1966 to 5 March 1967 where is states: D1/D2/D3/D4 Diesel Multiple Unit Trains - for formation, see Sectional Appendix.
  8. Thank you PhilJ W. Pendragon Publishing do not hold the rights. Modellers Backtrack remained with Atlantic Transport Publishing.
  9. Modellers Backtrack was part of Atlantic Publishing. Does anyone know who owns its rights?
  10. Have a look at the number plates in the last GWRA auction last Saturday. Several cast iron plates with the line, e.g. 2255. 2255 has original paint and it was lined green.
  11. The Transfer Sales e-mail address is transfers@hmrs.org.uk, was that the one you used? I have checked with the current Transfer Sales person and they are out of stock. They have been ordered from the supplier. The swapping over from one person to another is scheduled to happen in and around the middle of December 2018.
  12. I have used Ultrascale conversions for 56XX, 64XX and Hornby Grange. I have had success pulling out wheels for diesels but not steam.
  13. The difference between EM and P4 flanges are significant. Is it not a case of try it and see?
  14. British Geolocial Survey have an app called iGeology. It superimposes the geology on an OS map. This describes the Arenig quarry rock as an intrusive igneous rock, quartz-latite, its age is 444-485 million years ago in the Ordovician Period. The rock is intermediate in nature between a granite and a basalt. Quarrymen described any hard igneous rock as granite.
  15. Ordered one from Hattons on Wednesday before noon, was told it had been picked then nothing... Telephoned this morning and found it had been ‘lost’ in the system. Now expected on Monday! Less than 24 hours for Mikes and 5 days for another to be delivered - strange.
  16. Like you I have had this foisted on me if I wish to list for free as I do. I have found I can set offers £1 below the starting price. I normally set an end time and that has now attracted an additional fee. “Make offer” has increased the number of offers I receive but most are declined or counter offered. My starting price is what I am ultimately prepared to accept but experience has taught me that most listings will end 50% higher which is why I believe in waiting until the auction ends unless my counter offer is accepted. I often find there are no bidders even an hour beforehand but there is always a flurry of activity in the last few seconds. One annoying aspect to “Make offer” is those bidders who make an offer an hour or two before auction end, they are declined and usually that bidder will bid in the auction. Alan
  17. I have thoroughly enjoyed Ivor Higgon’s Cambrian Diary with its 87 photographs, 38 are pre-nationalisation. 35 are whole page and 3 are across 2 pages. This photographic tribute covers the ex-Cambrian Railways lines and those that adjoined. The adjoining lines are Ruabon to Dolgelley, Bala to Blaenau Ffestiniog, Aberystwyth to Carmarthen, Shropshire and Montgomery, Bishop’s Castle and the narrow gauge lines of Corris, Talyllyn, Welsh Highland, Padarn and Penrhyn Quarry railways. There is an excellent 5 page introduction about Ivor Higgon and his railway photography and what follows is a feast of superb images. A few are soft but considering their vintage and historical worth I find this acceptable. Each photograph has an extensive caption and the vast majority are accurate. What errors there are, are few and far between. On page 4 the ‘Dukes’ are credited as a stop gap measure in 1936 whereas they were introduced in 1922. There is some confusion over which parts were used from ‘Dukes’ in the ‘Dukedogs’; page 4 states parts and page 10 says cabs. Page 46 refers to 2492, a typographic error, and should be 2452. The tank wagons on pages 55 and 60 are not milk tank wagons but petroleum wagons. It is worth restating that the vast majority of captions are accurate and informative. This is one of the best ten pounds I have spent on a railway book in recent years. For those interested in the lines of the ex-Cambrian Railways and adjacent lines this is a must have. Can I have some more please!
  18. Is this actually taking place? I ask because I cannot find it listed on the Kidderminster Railway Museum website. Who are the 20 dealers?
  19. I rang the railway this week 01803 555872 and was told it would running during the Kingswear beer festival, 13, 14, 15 July. Also see And Alan
