  1. What spoils it for me, and would be MY first change, are the oversized awful coupling rods. They just scream, "Model!!!!!" Or even, "Toy!!!!!!"
  2. That's amazing. I love this thread since Barrow Road was such a name to conjure with to us as young spotters. I mean...Bristol? Who would EVER get to Bristol? I only ever saw one loco allocated there, 45685, "Barfleur", on a returning "Devonian" one sunday evening, having waited for it for an hour at Wath North, in the old West Riding. It must have worked up the previous working, why it didn't get taken off at Birmingham, or Derby I don't know. Can't wait to see the next instalment.
  3. Someone at the shed has sprayed that grass with "Green and Feed"
  4. Some stunning shots on here of VERY realsitic models. If I HAD to pick a favourite, it would be the two of the diesel depot that are right at the start of the topic.
  5. LOL, I like the models, but the lining gives me the heebie-jeebies. Good reason to model blue era diesels? Now, why did I buy that Finney A3, the DJH Brit, the David Andrews A1........?
  6. I'm looking forward to seeing (into) it.
  7. Will the interior of the shed be fully detailed? And will it be visible?
  8. Can't wait to see the shed take shape. What major and smaller turntables will you use?
  9. Yes, it's grey, almost silver........ Creosote it and leave it out in the sun and rain for 12 months?
  10. Hi Brian. How are you going to stop the oval buffers turning? The left hand one in the top model looks odd. Staining wood: Wickes do a substance for fences, it replaced creosote. Use the darkest available. Colron also do wood dyes, available from B&Q, Homebase etc, use dark oak. I have kept a few pints of GENUINE creosote for this purpose, and to have the smell of genuine creosoted wood in my model PW yard. And yes, I KNW it's not nice stuff. Thanks.
  11. They look great, especially the weathering. Before I fully scrolled down, I thought the top photo was of the real thing. Pity not to have such lovely locos able to move: refit the motor/gears, plus a nice 08 soundcard, some smoke etc.
  12. I like it: even without the loco lineup, it looks like Copley Hill.
  13. I had the Minitrix version of that loco, it was what finally killed "N" gauge for me. It derailed every time it went over a point boiler first, had little haulage power, and the valvegear and wheels were so far over scale as to be horrendous. A horrid little thing.
  14. I'll ask this question again then: what's the significance of the "distressed" namplate?
  15. Quite convincing from some angles, the door hinges jar a bit, and I don't think any railway company would bother with windows in the rear of a shed that backs onto a high retaining wall.
  16. It's very interesting, Barrow Road was always a bit of a dream shed for us spotters from the north, it closed before I could get there. How big are the series of small turntables in the fitting shop? How will you make them and will they work automatically? And where did you plan of Barrow Road come from?
  17. Go on then, I'll buy it: what's naff about the Hornby louvres, other than that they are open?
  18. Forgot to mention that the GC also saw GW Halls on it's tracks as far north as Leicester, and sometimes to Nottingham.
  19. Why not use the road bridge in top left as the station buidlings, access to single central platform via stairs, and you have set it on the old Great Central. You could then do away with the third CIRCUIT, maybe have more storage space in the storage/fiddle yard and use the third line towards the station as either a long headshunt or a siding? Or give you better access to put the t/t behind the shed? Station buildings on the road bridge do away with having to model their access areas, parking etc too An ex-GC line would give you availability of ex LNER A3's, V2's, B1's, O4's O2's, LMS Jubilees, Scots, Black 5's, 2-8-0's, WD 2-8-0's 9F's and Brits, all in the 1950's Diesels included 20's, 31's, 37's, 47's, GT3 and MAYBE D0280 "Falcon" returning to, or leaving Brush at Loughborough?
  20. I was about to post the same as above, then I read the comment. I'm not sure if I wouldn't still put the turntable BEHIND the shed, but as it stands it's workable and you have far more storage space.
  21. One thing, a turntable as the only entrance to a shed was not favoured as if the turntable was out of action, so was the shed, and any loco ON shed. Perhaps better to have the turntable BEHIND the shed, with a 3-way point feeding the shed. Most sheds also had two or three times as many lines for stabling OUTSIDE the shed, than in it. Depending on your type of coaling stage, is there room for coal wagons to feed it? The water and coaling, if possible, ought to be able to feed through: in one end, out of the other, so an engine waiting hasn't to wait elsewhere for one to go in, then come out. Oh and the shed needs a headshunt. Not criticisms, but just me being picky. Try and look at some shed plans in print, there are LOADS of books with plans ranging from rough sketches to OS-type plans to dead scale. Oh, and finally: the plan often changed according to which company BUILT the shed, each seemed to have a favoured plan.
  22. Sounds like a new Walker's Crisps flavour...........
  23. I have to say that second photo is pretty darn realstic. From normal viewing distances, it's going to be incredible. Even the slaters wheels don't detract. But now you have the problem of showing realistic looking grease/dirt/gunge buildup behind the wheels and on parts of that lovely motion...........
  24. What makes you say that? I've been waiting impatiently since Karlgarin took over Impetus. He made a LOT of promises, and broke every one. Now his website just states that he won't respond to enquiries about models not now in production. Useful. About two years ago I found a 7mm unmade Impetus 165DE 0-6-0, the ex WR PWM, class 97/6, on e-bay, ande bought it. Yes it cost me substantailly more than Impetus used to charge, but......... Meanwhile, another manufacturer who shall be nameless promised me faithfully before Telford 2007 that he would be able to tell me AT Telford 2007 how far off his plans for the same loco in 7mm were. He DID tell me, it was to be within 6 months, but I'm still waiting..........despite him having told me twice now that I can test build it for him and it's on it's way There are lies, damned lies and 7mm manufacturers' lies And before anyone says, no, NOT all of them
