  1. One thing I forgot to mention is the fiddleyard, which will be detatchable and will only be on when the layout is in use.
  2. Hello everyone for a long time I've wanted to build a shunting layout, and now I am! its a private yard with BR running rights, (with rule 1 being applied) the reason for this so I can run my small collection of BR wagons (and my USA tank and other BR locos) and some industrial locos. it's set in the 1960's in OO gauge. it doesn't really have a fixed location. so this is the trackplan. it is 3ft (L) x 1ft (W) and will be DCC. I need to sort out the fiddleyard. (and obviously lay the track) I hope to get the track laid and the baseboard strengthened in the next few weeks.
  3. Apologies there has been no updates for this recently, I've got to a point where without paint and a chassis I can't continue, but I will get back to working on it soon. Thank you for your continued support.
  4. If you've got a turntable, then surely you don't need a run round loop.
  5. On some people posts I have seen links to other threads. how would I do this?
  6. I hope not http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/130221-bodging-a-fireless-loco/
  7. We all have our own interests. I am not interested in everything. but I'm not going to walk up to a layout and say "its just another xxxxxx layout" but I do pay attention to all the layouts at an exhibition, even if I'm not interested in them, I know they will appreciate it. I hope this clears anything up.
  8. I didn't make it clear. why are manufacturers I.E Hornby, Bachmann etc not making wagons in liveries that were used by independent traders in Suffolk.
  9. No matter what country the layout is based in, what scale its in, what gauge its modelling, I will always stop and have a look. I appreciate the time and money they have put into that layout, and if I exhibited, I know I would be annoyed if someone walked past and went ''just another xxxxxx layout''.
  10. One thing I cant help but noticing about the RTR market is there is a lot of private owner wagons, from all over the country, but why aren't there any from Suffolk? why are the manufactures neglecting it? the mid Suffolk railway will occasionally commission Dapol for a mid Suffolk wagon, but no one does a wagons in a livery from Suffolk as a production run. why? and also what businesses based in suffolk had wagons?
  11. Because I model a preserved railway, I have the freedom run what I want, (and its a preserved railway for that reason) so I buy with my heart and not my head, if I want something, I will buy it, If I don't, I won't, I don't think I have yet bought a loco because it was ''necessary''.
  12. Yes, I leave locos, coaches and wagons on the layout, why would I have a shed scene with no locos in it? Between running trains, I leave a locomotive in the platform of my station coupled to a rake of coaches (or wagons), its a bit of a faf to put 4 coaches (or quite a few 4 wheeled wagons and /or bogie wagons) in their box, and take them out again (although I do occasionally put them on a shelf when I want to run something else)
  13. In my opinion being ignored by an exhibitor at an exhibition is like being ignored by the staff in a shop. if I ask a question, I expect an answer, if they can't answer it, fair enough, no one knows everything. What isn't fair (and quite rude) is when I get completely ignored by an exhibitor, like I am talking trying to talk to a brick wall. I had a lovely experience at an exhibition a couple of years ago that I attend every year, I asked one question about a certain model, and we had a good conversation for about 5 minutes, and in that time, I got to hold the model and get a close up look at it, and every time where I went back to take photos of that layout, he would tell me something extra about the layout or some of the stock on it, in the end he gave me a flyer for the club he belonged to and another exhibition he was exhibiting at with his club. I found him a very nice man, and he was very pleasant to talk to. Even if the exhibitor has to stop the train because they can't shunt and talk at the same time, they should still engage with the public.
  14. Apologies nothing has happened with this project recently, most of my modelling has been taken up by the fireless loco, and this thread will get an update at some point.
