  1. Helped the father in law change plugs, remove and check carbs, clean leads, charge battery etc etc etc on a ural 750, only to find there was more rainwater than fuel in the tank....
  2. Regarding @Gwiwers comments on local residents to rail worke, we had the joy of the within 200m letters for the overnight piling for the electrification works through Didcot, social media community pages had people 3 or 4 miles away asking if anyone knew what the noise was...
  3. At this point in time it means the cargo ships will only spend one week moored outside Felixstowe/Southampton rather than 2 surely.....
  4. What annoys me is that Jenrick states the decision should be made by the planning committee. Round here a Conservative controlled council prepared but didn’t finalise the local plan. They then lost the local elections and the Liberal Democrat’s took control, campaigning specifically (and mostly on) on overhauling said local plan and specific elements of it. Jenrick then ordered them to accept it as was or he would call it into central government to force through.....
  5. It will likely be VAT on the price you pay, because the exchequer didn’t benefit from VAT on the initial new purchase(supply).
  6. Had fun and games at work when they replaced the old style meter with another one (circa2008) and it failed with a dead digital display 18 months in. They insisted on a process of monitoring the next three months usage to calculate bill, rather than previous readings...as the meter failed in early November I had a big negotiation with them as I wasn’t prepared to let them use winter readings to calculate an autumn bill. We got there eventually but it was initially like pulling teeth to explain the issue with their proposed solution. When the facility closed I also rang them on the final day with the final reading, having checked it in the landlords presence (they had a handover checklist) and promptly got an estimated final bill for 1000+ units more. That took a couple of phone calls and emailing photos of the meter reading to resolve.
  7. Same here, apparently because they don’t have the space to store a backlog of parcels but do letters...
  8. Well I suppose a handicap system where the lower you qualify the longer your drs window hasn’t yet been proposed as part of the silly season has it???
  9. Many TVs have a usb slot these days, and you can put certain formats of video file on a memory stick and set to repeat.
  10. it seems that way, went for a 12km bike ride at lunchtime and came across 5 sets, only one of which was there last week...
  11. Something to be aware of is that you can give a donation of any amount you wish, what you cannot do is gift aid it as that requires being a British taxpayer, and is why they ask for a postcode. The theory is that a taxpayer can only gift aid up to amount of tax that they have paid (cannot remember if income tax or national insurance) and if the total gift aid exceeds the amount of tax that an individual has paid, HMRC could ask that taxpayer to pay them the excess. (whether this has ever been enforced I am less certain...and many charities frontline staff don’t seem particularly well trained on the rules around it and simply encourage everyone to gift aid it all regardless.)
  12. I’m not so sure, having a not for profit on the scene reduces the value of all other options, and helps provide a check and balance against the capitalist requirements of big pharma and their shareholder obligations.
  13. M40 was shut nearby, probably on an unexpected diversion.

I know one of our two likes trains (or more specifically knocking off the rear wagon each time a rake passes) but this is a bit different https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2021/mar/04/cat-on-a-fast-train-roof-holds-up-london-to-manchester-service

It’s an interesting one, the claims I mentioned above were within the first 15 months of the wife and I buying our first property, 14 years later and the insurer haven’t quite broken even on the claim, but we haven’t made any claims for her brother in the same period...
  16. Looks like you should try refreshing the firmware https://forum.creality.com/topic/122/ender-5-pro-tmc-connection-error/41?lang=en-GB

We have been with Sainsbury’s for years and they were great when one of our two smashed her hock, requiring a full metal implant to bind the remains together, and again a year later when she had the skin pulled off said implant in a fight... They have however recently changed the excess from a fixed amount to 10% of claim. The premiums are also heading upwards now the cats are older (14 years). Our vets were also very good, although they normally expect payment up front and you to claim from insurers they did offer (unprompted) to do the initial claim as a paid direct to them claim.
  18. There’s some comments in the eBay annoyances thread, and a few on the eBay community, https://community.ebay.co.uk so I don’t think you are alone.
  19. If a business rates replacement I suspect it needs to be a percentage or two on all sales, treated separately to VAT. This is because there are a lot of zero rated items out there, but the business rates overhead is currently calculated into selling prices.
  20. Looks like a class 24 is 8’ 10” wide (per Wikipedia), and the middle photo shows a small overhang on the visible side.
  21. A relative is on medication that means they shouldn’t have the jab without further advice (list is high-dose corticosteroids, immunosuppressants or cancer medicines), they discovered this from the paperwork handed to them as leaving the vaccination centre and read at home...
  22. quick google turns this up https://www.2d53.co.uk/llanfairpg/caravan.htm
  23. It’s an area I am watching with interest, working for a specialist wholesaler who operate b2b nationwide to small retailers via carrier...will we get caught up in such legislation if poorly written, passing on charges to small businesses. Will out competition who sell b2c and b2b in the same way as Hornby get caught up, having to pass charges to small retailers as well to make their retail (and higher margin!) offering more appealing.... In reality business rates have surely got to be replaced by a percentage sales tax to become much fairer all round.
  24. Sadly the hall where the two shows that normally happen in Didcot are held, is currently the local vaccination centre.
