  1. Afternoon all, Going back into the archives to resurrect and rebrand this topic and ask a question that came to mind after I picked up a copy of Colin Boocock’s book ‘Bournemouth and Southampton Steam 1947-1967’. I saw on one of the pages a picture of M7 30108 shunting an oil train at Wareham (likely in the 60’s but pre-64 when that engine was withdrawn) with the caption stating this was a regular occurrence. I’d actually never seen any pictures like this before and, with Dapol’s air ministry tanks in the offing, wanted to ask whether the tanks would have come down from Fawley and whether they would be of the variety offered by Dapol? Thanks in advance for any help, Ryan
  2. Didcot do have a special weekend for 1466 coming back into service in May…not saying that Accurascale are planning anything but…..
  3. Even as a BR(S) modeller, I’m in the same camp as Robin and have 4 of the D1666’s as opposed to 3 of the 8 plankers and would take one or two more if the opportunity arose. I’ll definitely be getting some of the O11 and O15 5 plankers too as well as an LNWR D.88 van. The diversity of wagons that we are seeing at the moment is brilliant and exciting and, thinking of the idea of complimentary (perceived or otherwise) goods (pun intended), I wonder if its possible that the earlier release of the SECR 5 plankers and 7 plankers encouraged the sales of the 8 plankers in a way that the D1666’s will hopefully do for other wagons of LMS and constituent pre-grouping companies?
  4. I believe on the original samples had the fenders without the lining and the photos still reflect that version, but the final version does have them correctly lined out Miss P!
  5. If my decoding is correct (and it has been fun to try and decode even if I’m wrong) today may be the day we see the materialisation of the Hawksworth County the Rapido crew have previously hinted at! They did post a link to Soul Limbo on their Facebook page earlier this week, so that I’m guessing that brings us to Test Match Special, to Cricket, to County Cricket to, Counties! The O1 seems a fairly safe bet given the previous newsletter hints and aforementioned facebook post too. Looking forward to 12 noon and the announcement either way!
  6. I’m also waiting for a manor from this batch and am excited like everyone else, but to the team’s defence, they did post on Facebook that the second batch had arrived in the warehouse six days ago (link for anyone who hasn’t seen it but Robin did alert us on this fine thread if I’m not mistaken -https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=pfbid02wcf7VM4bHEJ2R8xTeuYPN68TJYhUCAYnE6uHtRVKNJZgEnfqFxS9SczaHCB2t1eil&id=100063660625361), I think Fran said he and a colleague have been out in China and there was GETS over the weekend too. In the words of Mr Incredible, we’ll get there when we get there ☺️ Edit - sorry, cross over with Fran’s post there
  7. Hey Kevin! Quick question for you, do you have an idea of when Part 3 of the Main Lines to the South series will be published? I remember you mentioned it might be going into print soon semi-recently. Thanks! Ryan
  8. There is a 3D print of the E1 in Rapido’s latest newsletter which looks rather tasty indeed! Looking forward to seeing more as the project develops!
  9. Just got round to watching this in full and it was well worth it, very interesting and informative to hear about the whole process! Thanks Andy and Paul
  10. Just if it’s of any interest and to show a photo of them on other region’s metals, while having a look through some photos the other day, I found one of what I think is a V14 with vertical door planking and narrow rain strips attached to the front of a pull-push train on Southern metals at Brockenhurst in 1960 (although I am no expert and may be corrected by the many well informed individuals on here!) - https://thetransportlibrary.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=127804&search=Brockenhurst+&page=3 (edit to add link) I’ll be adding another one to the order along with the departmental version Andy’s floated (fingers crossed)!
  11. Think this is pretty much spot on good sir! There are a number of photos of this service in 1956/57 in the book ‘Railways of Hampshire’ by Ian Allan Publishing, including two with Draycott Manor (i’ve ordered it on that basis too). The stock is a mix of Collett and Hawksworth with an LMR 50ft BG in one of the Draycott Manor photos too. Here’s one of Draycott at Southamptom too, but haven’t been able to work out what the coach is yet - https://thetransportlibrary.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=167398&search=7810
  12. Took delivery of a 3 set today and have to agree with Ian’s comments, they look excellent, the colours look great to my eye and I’m very pleased with them! Well worth the wait
  13. Unreasonably excited by this announcement and will absolutely be picking up a couple of packs! Thanks Fran and team!
  14. There seems to be a general opportunity (as there probably is for all coach ranges) for Bachmann to range build in a way similar to how Hornby have done with their Maunsell coaches (D2406 brakes, Tavern Sets, Bournemouth 6 car sets and I’m sure more that hasn’t been mentioned yet!), so it would be great to see them expand over time. I’d definitely be in for a Bournemouth 6-set but perhaps they’re not the most commercially viable proposition! In any case, it seems likely that we’ll see the Third Open thats already been tooled within the next quarterly announcement or two and its great to have the versions that are on the way in the first place. They do look fantastic and excited to see them arrive soon
  15. Just in case anyone hasn’t seen it, Rapido posted a video of the sample running with sound on Facebook here https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=pfbid0s24TZ2zSR2uMc9xwQ4zKTy1nEBph8VjS3h8DXkbbV3ybkTzskYnG2hTvhFfkHiRGl&id=100062990961423
  16. Out of curiosity, I wondered whether anyone had heard an update from Bachmann on a new delivery date? I had a quick check of the site before posting and it’s tagged as awaiting for now, but I seem to remember they had it down for delivery early this year at one point. No fuss either way and it’ll get here when it gets here!
  17. Slightly off topic (apologies!) but did you fit one of those TRS smoke generators you’ve been trialling to that D class of yours Andy? Looks good!
  18. These are now on the way according to Rapido’s facebook page. Very excited to receive the three I’ve ordered!
  19. Not a model idea I know, and this may have been covered elsewhere before/not be possible to keep their ideas and processes confidential, but I’d be really interested to read a blog post from Accurascale on how prototypes first come on to their radar, how many are on the radar at any given point (without having started on proper research and development etc), at what point a prototype become commercially viable, how the projects are affected, positively and negatively, by announcements from other companies etc. A (very slight) draw back the curtain thing! Anyway, back to the models! A U would be fantastic full stop and even better to Accurascale standards, plenty of variations and well travelled but excited to see what the future holds whatever is announced!
  20. First of all thanks to everyone that has responded! Is perhaps then the best option out there for replicating these trains in the 50’s/60’s (in 4mm scale) this borail kit from Cambrian or something similar? https://www.cambrianmodelrail.co.uk/store/C28-BR-BORAIL-ECEB-MB-p93876137
  21. From the various shots I've seen, the accompanying third class car was coupled to the kitchen end and, as you've noted, the two often seemed to be behind the loco at the head of the rake (although I have seen examples whether they were located in the middle of rakes and the RKBs and RCOs seemed to be in the middle of the inter-regional sets). Hope that helps!
  22. Afternoon all, My understanding has mostly been that bogie bolster wagons were not commonly used on the Southern, either in the grouping era or in BR(S) days, although as with many understandings, they can end up misconceived! I've seen many photos of such wagons lined up in the sidings at Winchester during the late 50s and 60s, but have also seen a couple of photos on Flickr and sites of a similar nature of them in a couple of (mostly engineering) trains on the Bournemouth main line (my area of interest). A couple of examples are - https://www.flickr.com/photos/31514768@N05/3461910437/in/faves-157303605@N05/, https://www.flickr.com/photos/billsboy/5950288972/in/faves-157303605@N05/ and https://www.flickr.com/photos/billsboy/4345222969/in/faves-157303605@N05/. Does anyone know which particular versions these are likely to be? Thanks all!
  23. Its been said many times before but, regardless of whether they are in my era or not, I always find accurascale annoucements exciting and enjoyable purely because of the amount of enthusiasm and knowledge you guys have about your subject matter and about producing the best possible product you can and, above all, because you share that knowledge and enthusiasm with us. I have no idea about Mk2b’s generally but have found the run down of the where they ran and their detail differences very interesting and the samples look great to the untrained eye! Hope they are a great success (as they will no doubt be seeing everyones reactions!)
