  1. Nice close up of 60111 there, I find that the close ups always stand out to me, which makes me want to comment! (Not saying your other photos aren't as good, though!)
  2. Anything & Everything! EDIT: Stupid autocorrect!
  3. At that age, you'd sure hope they have a good attention span!
  4. What exactly do you mean by this? Anyway I don't exactly post much on this thread in particular, more of the progress is on the blog (see my signature), but even then I still haven't updated that! I also have been creating a lot of help threads, each on different subjects including timetables, rolling stock and all sorts of things. Last night I started nailing down the track, so there's something! Note the bag of nails sitting on the layout. EDIT: The first lot of posts is full of junk. They were all earlier proposals that were scrapped pretty early on in the building of the layout. I started building this at around 4 November 2017.
  5. It'll be good to see this project going again. I couldn't find much either when I searched 'southern railway 4-lav emu' on Google either.
  6. I personally don't mind the grey doors, but that's just my opinion.
  7. I am currently deciding what model to buy so I can make this Met-Camm Lightweight, but I'm not sure which one is more appropriate: R3146 (3 Car set, BR Blue/Grey) - Incorrect livery, correct front ends, will require repainting on the sides. R2579A (3 Car set, Plain BR Blue) - Correct livery, incorrect front ends, will require corrections to front ends. Both models would require swapping the chassis units of the dummy motor and centre coaches, renumbering, installing the jumpers on the ends, removal of the blue square and new roof vents. I will have to find a purpose for the centre car too.
  8. One would be needed for a particular small service, the branch line coming out of the 'main' branch line is relatively small compared to the 'main' branch, and would only require one train. One unit could remain with the original Yellow Diamond to work the service. Maybe even the ones that were converted weren't converted straight away. BR might just have given the units a little tidy up and put them straight to service, but later found some services required multiple working during peak hour running. They could either rebuild these or simply reallocate them to another service that doesn't require multiple working. Coming to think of it they would have been lazy and would not have rebuilt them just so they can work peak hour. There were other DMU's on the line that had this capability, so they'd put them on peak services instead.
  9. Assuming we're on the same topic still... I'm liking the current topic so far, so let's keep it for a little longer... More WIP Layout Pics please!
  10. Then it's very much renumbering a Class 101 then rearranging the roof vents. Although like a few have mentioned these would have been redundant after the conversions. I would still retain them, although they'd be isolated and would simply just 'be there'. I think there still would be room for the cowlings, but they might need removal after relocation of the jumpers.
  11. Met-Camm Lightweights...

  12. Yes, but I have a thing for finding loopholes in history. Let's just say I like being imaginary when it comes to things like this. In fiction, prior to the mass scrapping of these units, a few of them were moved into storage somewhere nearby the location of my layout, and when more services were required, these units were chosen to run some of them. Although they had been in storage for years and they had a lot of missing parts, including engines which has been removed for use on other DMU's of similar variety (the class 101). New engines were needed as well as some 'freshening up'. New engines (two units with AEC 150hp engines, one with Leyland 150hp engines) and the replacement of defective equipment and other features were fitted and a lick of BR Blue was given the units. All three units were rebuilt with Class 101 styled equipment, granting them the Blue Square coupling code, but the distinctive jumper couplings remained on the front ends, as well as some retaining the front bufferbeam cowlings (those that didn't have them already removed). These were subclassed under the class 101 and 102 were appropriate. They were finally ready for service in mid 1972, and by then they were working all kinds of services on my (fictional) branch line until the late 1980's, when they were all withdrawn from service by the late 1980's, along with the other 1st generation DMU's that worked the line. Hope this isn't to unrealistic though!
  13. What livery should I make my unit? I'm going to 'bring one back from the dead' on my branch line layout set in 1970's - 1980's. I'd think if they were kept in service they would have lasted almost as long as their production successors (the class 101). I'm considering a heavily weathered BR green for the unit, although the colour scheme was well phased out by era I'm modelling.
  14. Thanks, I think that the set I mentioned before (R3146) would be ideal for this project. All I need to do is replace the vents, swap the chassis units of the centre and dummy motor cars and detail the fronts of the cars as per the prototypes.
  15. I'm pretty sure with any model you can remove the decals by rubbing a toothpick against the decals you want to remove. Although I don't own a Blue Pullman myself, so I could be wrong.
  16. Hi all, I plan on making a Met-Camm lightweight DMU out of a OO gauge Class 101. Can anyone give any guidance on what model to use for this conversion? I was thinking of the Hornby R3146 (as it has the 4 marker lights on the front ends), but this is a three car set, and the Met-Camm Lightweights only came in Power/Trailer sets. Should I look for alternatives or should I use a replacement chassis for the dummy motor? Thanks to all that contribute. For those who don't know what a Met-Camm lightweight is, see the link below. (Don't worry, I only found out they existed a couple of days ago!) http://www.railcar.co.uk/type/met-camm-lightweight/summary
  17. They should be under the title 'LMS bogies'. I had a look at Bachmann's website and they have them in stock. I probably should have got given the specific name of them before.
  18. The 124's had Swindon built bogies. Bachmann sell sets of these separately as spares.
  19. What about using P4 track? It is broader than HO scale track.
  20. No idea, probably a scam. They've already sold 20, and have an 10 to sell. I wonder if the seller will be fined for reproducing forgery.
  21. I went to the NRM in York in September, just a shame we couldn't go to Shildon.
  22. Ironic. The photo I initially posted was of my Class 108, I guess a DMU is considered a wildcard!
  23. Nice picture, I wonder how that'll look if you were to recreate it on your layout!
