  1. Above wasn’t the final filing up the connecting rod slot went lower than the photo above as did the coupling rod not so influential I know. Two more coming soon!
  2. Cheers Dave I’ve realised this U on its side early on but to get the clearances Ive had to keep easing the slots out. Now I’ve got there the slot is massive compared to your slide bar etch I really want to use. I need to have a think where I’ve gone wrong. These motion brackets will have to be just test pieces unfortunately. I soldered one on temporary to gauge where I am.Also the cylinder casing is massive compared to your etch for the cylinder cover. Debating reducing its size. Good luck with the 7mm version bound to be easier,
  3. Dave did you cut back or design the etch on the bottom of the motion plate short of the frames so it clears the coupling rods? Can’t quite see in your photo or was the intention to remove those as well to get the motion off. Pencil pointing below. Can’t see how to get it off else? Cheers Ade
  4. Thanks Phil, it gets better I was only aware of the two stations at Barnstaple but looking on Scotland’s Libary Maps the great resource for old maps. I see now the south station is Barnstaple Junction with a triangle just south leading to the GWR station! I’ll have to include that to!No desktop I’m afraid so I’ll have a look at Affinity. Cheers Ade
  5. Cheers David & Dave for the advice, yes of course Dave what was I thinking removing the wrong end of the connecting rod! I thought I would need to join the motion brackets together for ridgidity, obviously not from your setup Dave. Thanks for the photo and info. Cheers Ade
  6. Enjoyed those 3 pages, what happened, to busy with the shop would be good in the busy making a living sense! Cheers Ade
  7. Ah thanks David of course heard read the term now you say it. Motion bracket that’s it. I’m also thinking making the motion and cylinders removable, lay a bar between the two motion brackets notched into the top of the two frames I think with a forward tipping motion off it will come having dropped the pin out the connecting rods. Is that worth doing chaps? Cheers Ade
  8. Spent far to long trying to find it. I’ve come up with my own. This is my project of a lifetime realistically 2 layouts time 7 or 8 years away! I like planning though. BARNSTAPLE QUAY. I plan to represent somehow the station much further out of town or at least the river Taw crossing as I want a long viaduct over an estuary. Based on the river Tavy Viaduct mixed with Barmouth. Tavy being 3rd and 4th photos. So the vision is Braunton will connect via hidden fiddle Yard with Bideford. Then Barnstable south bank complete with goods yards, will also connect with both Bideford and Braunton via a hidden crossover loop. thinking aloud. It’s developing in my head time to sketch something any recommendations for an iPad? Cheers Ade
  9. Nice work Mike, are you making the trees from seafoam armatures and adding sea Moss? The whole thing looks amazing (apart from the red palllet! ) remind me what you are using for ballast? That looks so prototypical it’s next to the real thing. Spot on mate. Cheers Ade Edit for spelling..
  10. Bit more done not worth noting soldered two pieces of 0.25mm brass together for the Slide bar attachment plate (not sure it’s called that but no one said to the contrary when I used the term before) then set about shaping it mini drill disc set to work. It’s nearly up to 7mm scale which is worrying! After measuring off the chassis. Also a couple of new photo came from FB this evening permission to share here thanks to Killian Keane. Couple of great photos. Cheers
  11. Tom that’s a great story an emotional journey. The layout looks top drawer, from those glimpses in the photos above. Particularly interested in the water there, more pics of that and how it was achieved please. Cheers Ade
  12. Looking Mint Mike and as others have said the roads are a new level to most layout offerings. I think the lighting you have in your borrowed unit does help, clean and little shadow. Fluorescent no doubt and at a guess Cat2 louvred [polished egg boxes]? Cheers Ade
  13. Ah I see Tony glad to hear things are getting better and the chair will be gone. I guess I’m not well read on the Forest of Dean! Cheers Ade
  14. Enjoyed those 11 pages Stu, learned a lot to. Love your buildings, well all of it actually but particularly the buildings. Following for more. Cheers Ade
  15. The new arrivals look very nice, particularly interesting to see the 3D print looks good loads of detail nice work that. Look forward to how that builds up. Cheers Ade
  16. My home town Wells but I didn’t venture along. Probably will next year. Was it not wheel chair friendly? Don’t mean to pry but feedback is always useful. I’m not anything to do with it but interested. Guess the cottage is Somerset Devon border somewhere or is it near or in Helston? Cheers Ade
  17. Subscribed ready to follow all that will end up in here. I’ll miss the 00 continuous run though and videos of that. Cheers Ade
  18. Also of note, to date apart from the wheels, axles and hornblocks the only things not scratch built are the coupling and connecting rods. I did make some but they were pretty course and loads of work still to go. These were very kindly supplied by Dave (Chris P Bacon) see post #85 http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/132029-wantage-tramway-no5-jane-or-shannon-from-the-sandy-potton-tramway-1850/page-4
  19. Well I could be reinventing the wheel but I had no problem, lashings of flux and a good join. I had three layers to solder so the piston tubes I did 188 then the steam chest145 finally the steam chest cover 70 degree. Whether it stays put mind could be another matter!Cheers Ade
  20. Thanks Dave indeed you did most generous, so got help when I move above the footplate. Cheers Ade
  21. Nice 1 Andy. Sat with like button finger poised for the next instalment . Waiting to be inspired yet again. Take it steady. Cheers Ade
  22. Bit more done, after the tips from David more flux was where it’s at. So now with 188 deg 145 deg and 70 deg solder things are better. But doing the steam chest cover In 145 I managed to unsolder a piston tube on one side. It was in 188 but poorly done as previously noted. So redone with 188 and much neater. As below shows Attached the cylinders on the front now the weight of that made the horn block sit at the top of their travel and that meaning the front end is low. So hopefully a bit of weight up back similar to these tweezers will level things out. Or a spring arrangement possibly? So on to the slide bars next. All comments appreciated. Until next time. Cheers Ade
  23. Cheers Phil but no, obviously not one you’ve come up with then! Shame as when I was searching this topic your designs come up frequently. I think now it could of been a tail chaser from station/dock it headed out over the estuary on a viaduct on reaching the far bank it headed inland to a tunnel then did the rabbit warren/fiddleyard and back out after a loop out of sight. The estuary went well into the board and wrapped around the dock/station on 3 sides. Still looking I’ll find it or redraw what I remember. Cheers Ade
